He Proposed to His First Love, So I Married His Archenemy
Chapter 113: Utterly Shameless
The lights in the room suddenly flashed on. The two people, who had been sleeping in an embrace, hurriedly covered their eyes.
"Babe, did you turn on the light?"
"No, I thought you did. It’s so blinding, turn it off quick."
They mumbled to each other, still half-asleep, before suddenly realizing something was wrong. They both shot up and looked toward the door.
They were naked, their bodies covered in telltale marks.
"W-Wife," Wayne Coleman stammered numbly.
Zoe Churchill, however, stared intently at Wayne Coleman, as if his face had transformed into that of a stranger she was struggling to recognize as her husband.
Reed Lynch was the first to react, pulling the blanket over herself as she yelled at them, "This is my house! You’re trespassing! I’m calling the police to have you arrested!"
"Your phone is right there. Go on, call them," Wyatt Shaw said with a slight smirk.
"Don’t think I won’t! I..."
"Fucking shameless!" David Sutton couldn’t help but curse.
"Who are you calling shameless?" Reed Lynch shouted at David Sutton.
David Sutton’s eyes widened instantly. "I’m talking about you! No, you and him! You two are a pair of fucking shameless dogs! Fooling around behind his wife’s back is disgusting enough, but you even schemed to cheat her out of her money! What kind of trash are you?! If the heavens have eyes, they should strike you both down with lightning!"
The insults agitated Reed Lynch. "How are we shameless? We’re a normal man and woman with normal needs! She’s a cripple! Can she satisfy a man the way a normal woman can? Wayne has put up with her for so many years; he’s done more than enough. So what if we took her money? Wayne served her for years and even got her pregnant so she’d have someone to rely on in her old age. Shouldn’t she compensate me and Wayne for that?"
"Holy shit, you’re cheating on her and you think you’re in the right?!" David Sutton’s entire worldview was shattered by her words.
Reed Lynch nudged Wayne Coleman beside her. "Since it’s all come to this, we might as well get it all out in the open."
Wayne Coleman lowered his head, too guilty to look at Zoe Churchill.
"I... I’m truly in love with Ms. Lynch. Zoe, just let us be together."
Zoe Churchill finally saw her husband for who he truly was. A wave of anger, humiliation, and sorrow crashed over her. She took a deep, ragged breath, and after a long moment, she asked, "How long has this been going on?"
"Huh?"
"The two of you."
Wayne Coleman was silent for a moment before saying, "Three years."
Zoe Churchill shook her head and let out a bitter laugh. "Three years... and I never suspected a thing. I really am an idiot. But I don’t understand. If you wanted to be with her, why didn’t you just tell me? It’s not like I would have clung to you and refused to get a divorce, would I?"
"I... I didn’t want to hurt you."
"You didn’t want to hurt me? Or was it because right around then, you had racked up 200,000 in online loans that you needed me to pay off for you?"
"Don’t make it sound so ugly. We’re married. Of course you have to help me pay my debts."
"Wayne Coleman!"
"It’s a fact. And that inn of yours—half of it is mine, so naturally, the money it makes should be split evenly with me."
Wyatt Shaw and Yvonne Sutton were furious listening to this, but they held their tongues, believing that this was a matter for the couple to settle themselves.
David Sutton, however, couldn’t hold back. He was the type who could never stand by and watch an injustice.
"Nope, I can’t take it anymore. I have to beat the hell out of him!"
Seeing David Sutton raise his fists and start to charge forward, Wyatt Shaw and Yvonne Sutton quickly held him back.
"If you had no intention of living a proper life with me, then why? Why did you still sleep with me? Why get me pregnant? You knew it would be dangerous for me to get pregnant in my condition!" Zoe Churchill pressed on, each question feeling like it was tearing her apart.
Wayne Coleman coughed dryly. "I... I was just taking pity on you."
"Pity me? So you got me pregnant? Haha... Wayne Coleman, you make me sick!"
"Well, what’s done is done."
"Let’s get a divorce,"
Zoe Churchill said, then turned to Yvonne Sutton. "Please, get me out of here."
Yvonne Sutton nodded and wheeled Zoe Churchill out of the room.
"Have they sorted it all out? Can I beat him up now?" David Sutton asked.
Wyatt Shaw narrowed his eyes. "Go ahead. I’ll film it."
David Sutton gritted his teeth. He was practically angrier than Zoe Churchill herself. With a roar of "You bastard!" he charged forward.
As Yvonne Sutton wheeled Zoe Churchill out of the house, the sounds of Wayne Coleman’s pained howls, Reed Lynch’s pleas for mercy, and things crashing and smashing erupted from behind them.
The neighbor across the hall heard the commotion and opened their door. Upon seeing Zoe Churchill, they simply shook their head, sighed, and went back inside.
"So many people in this town must have known. And I was the only fool," Zoe Churchill said with a bitter smile.
Yvonne Sutton wheeled Zoe Churchill downstairs, and the two of them waited by the van.
The night air was fresh but a little chilly, so Yvonne Sutton took out a blanket and draped it over Zoe Churchill’s legs.
"Look how beautiful the sky is tonight," she said.
Zoe Churchill looked up at the star-filled sky and let out a long, deep breath.
"The world is a beautiful place. Don’t give up on life because of a couple of scumbags. It’s not worth it."
Zoe Churchill turned to look at Yvonne Sutton. "Thank you."
Yvonne Sutton shook her head. "It was actually Wyatt Shaw. He’s wanted to help you ever since he first suspected something, but he was afraid of hurting you."
Zoe Churchill was silent for a moment. "Is he some kind of benevolent saint?"
"Of course not."
"He doesn’t seem like one, but why would he help me like this, asking for nothing in return?"
Yvonne Sutton shrugged. "That’s something he’ll have to explain himself. I can’t speak for him."
David Sutton came downstairs looking thoroughly satisfied, having beaten them to his heart’s content. Wyatt Shaw did a quick edit of the video and sent it to Zoe Churchill.
"Whenever you’re feeling down or upset, just watch this video. I guarantee it’ll cheer you right up."
In the car on the way back, Zoe Churchill watched a clip and couldn’t help but burst out laughing, tears streaming down her face as she did.
Worried about Zoe Churchill, Yvonne Sutton stayed the night to keep her company.
Unexpectedly, Wayne Coleman showed up the next day, his face swollen like a pig’s head, demanding to divide their assets with Zoe Churchill.
Zoe Churchill’s mood had improved considerably after Yvonne Sutton’s comforting words, but hearing Wayne Coleman’s demand, she became agitated all over again.
"You have the nerve to talk about dividing assets? I transferred two million to Reed Lynch to buy her apartment. I’m guessing that apartment doesn’t actually exist, does it? So where’s my money?"
Wayne Coleman stiffened his neck, adopting a shameless, nothing-to-lose attitude. "I deserved that money. Besides, this inn isn’t solely your property."
"My parents left me money, and I used that money to open this inn. It has nothing to do with you!"
"We’re married. I can’t touch the inheritance your parents left you, but since you invested it in the inn, that makes half the inn mine. I’ve consulted a lawyer."
"Wayne Coleman, you are truly and utterly shameless!"
"I don’t need my dignity, I need the money."
Zoe Churchill gritted her teeth. "You two already scammed me out of all my money! I don’t have any more!"
"Then sell the inn and we’ll split the money fifty-fifty."
"You... you..." Zoe Churchill was so furious she was speechless.
Wayne Coleman snorted. "If you can’t bear to sell it, then give me another two million. The second I get the money, I’ll finalize the divorce with you. I promise I’ll never bother you again."
