Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Was He Really Drunk?

At Daisy Shaw’s urging, Yvonne Sutton could only sigh in resignation and help Wyatt Shaw into the room. She tried to lay him on the bed, but he pulled her down with him, and she fell onto it too, with him landing on top of her.

Yvonne Sutton grunted under his weight. She tried to push him off, but couldn’t budge him. Instead, her attempt only brought his face closer, pressing against hers. His scent was an aggressive invasion, their breaths tangling together.

Yvonne Sutton strained to turn her head away and pushed again with all her might, but this time, he wrapped his arms around her.

"You..."

In the next instant, he turned her face back toward him and kissed her hard.

Yvonne Sutton’s eyes shot wide. Stunned for a moment, she immediately tried to struggle free, but he only held her tighter. At the same time, his hand slipped beneath her clothes, stroking her skin, inch by inch.

He stole her breath completely, and her face turned purple from the lack of air. Her only recourse was to pinch his waist. Just as she was about to pass out, he finally released her. But as she gasped for air, he ripped open her clothes.

"Wyatt Shaw!"

He pushed aside her hand as she tried to stop him and buried his face against her.

Yvonne Sutton felt a fire ignite within her. Her body grew incredibly hot, and a soft moan escaped her lips against her will.

"Stop! Wyatt Shaw! We’re already divor—"

Before she could finish the word, he kissed her again. The kiss was fierce at first, then slowly gentled, becoming tender and lingering. Finally, he collapsed on top of her and, unexpectedly, went completely still.

Yvonne Sutton quickly pushed him off. As she straightened her clothes, she looked over at Wyatt Shaw, whose eyes were closed.

’Was he really drunk?’

By the time she came out of the room, Daisy Shaw had already finished packing.

"Huh? Why is your face so red?"

Yvonne Sutton cleared her throat. "His room... it’s pretty hot."

"Hot?" Daisy Shaw shrugged. "I thought it was cold last night."

Yvonne Sutton frantically grabbed a suitcase. "We, uh, we should go."

As they passed the mountain goods shop downstairs, Daisy Shaw paused, a look of relief on her face.

"If I’d come looking for him back then, this would have been my life. It’s funny how fate works. A single decision can lead you down a completely different path."

"If you had to choose?"

"Me?" Daisy Shaw smiled. "I’d still choose the life I’ve lived."

"So it’s not a regret, then. You just made the right choice."

Daisy Shaw nodded. "You’re right. There’s nothing to regret."

After loading the luggage into the car, Yvonne Sutton got behind the wheel. Daisy Shaw, sitting in the passenger seat, now wore an excited expression.

"When I was younger, I had a dream of having a daughter. I imagined that when she grew up, we could take a trip that was just for the two of us, a mother-daughter trip. Now, that dream is coming true."

Yvonne Sutton’s heart felt both warm and weary. "You’re a handful for a daughter, you know that? We made a deal. After this trip is over, you have to go to the hospital and stick with the treatment plan."

"I can go back on my promises to that father and son, but I would never break a promise to you."

Yvonne Sutton smiled. "Good."

Driving on mountain roads at night wasn’t safe, but luckily, they didn’t have to take the winding switchbacks. Instead, they followed a country road that passed through village after village. After four or five hours, they arrived at a small mountain village.

The villages in this area all looked alike. When Yvonne Sutton got out of the car, she felt as if they’d driven in a circle and ended up right back at Brimstone Village.

But of course, that was impossible. The sign at the village entrance clearly read: Veridia Village.

"Ms. Shaw, you must be tired from the journey."

Yvonne Sutton saw several staff members swarming the car. They crowded around the passenger’s side, all greeting Daisy Shaw.

On the way, Daisy Shaw had explained that she’d signed on for a reality show centered on helping farmers. The premise was to invite several celebrity guests to Veridia Village to help a local family of fruit growers harvest and sell the apples from their mountain orchard.

Another gimmick of the show was that all the guests were invited in pairs: a married couple with relationship problems, colleagues who couldn’t work together, old friends who’d had a falling out. The hope was that by spending this time together, they could talk things out openly and find a way to mend their relationships.

Daisy Shaw had specifically requested to be on this show. She hoped it would give her a chance to resolve things with her former best friend and become close again, just like old times.

Daisy Shaw had rarely made public appearances in recent years. She would occasionally take on a minor role with only a few minutes of screen time as a favor to someone, but participating in a reality show was unheard of. The production team was beyond thrilled that she had agreed to join.

Before Yvonne Sutton could even get out of the car, the staff had already unloaded all the luggage from the trunk.

"Ms. Shaw, and this is...?"

The speaker was the show’s executive director, Evan Miller, a short, stout, bald man in his fifties.

He was asking about Yvonne Sutton. He probably didn’t recognize her in the dark.

"Oh, her? She’s my manager," Daisy Shaw said offhandedly.

’How did I end up as her manager *again*?’

"Hello, Director Miller. I’m Yvonne Sutton." Yvonne Sutton extended her hand toward him.

Director Miller quickly shook it. "Miss Sutton, it must have been a long trip."

"Not at all."

"This village is pretty undeveloped. There are no hotels, not even any guesthouses, so we rented a few vacant farmhouses. But please, don’t worry, we’ve already cleaned them up. They’re not dirty."

Daisy Shaw nodded, looking pleased. "I’ve actually been wanting to stay in a stone house like this."

Daisy Shaw and Director Miller walked ahead, while Yvonne Sutton followed behind, carrying her bag.

Yvonne didn’t hear what Director Miller said, but Daisy suddenly asked loudly, "She’s refusing to join? Why?"

Director Miller launched into a long explanation. Daisy Shaw’s mood clearly soured, and she didn’t say another word.

It was the middle of the night and they were exhausted from the bumpy ride, so they went to rest as soon as they arrived at their lodging.

「The next day」

Yvonne Sutton didn’t wake up until it was almost noon.

The farmhouse was rustic but clean enough. The washing area was outside, and Yvonne, being inexperienced with this, went out in just her thin pajamas. She ended up hopping from foot to foot from the cold while brushing her teeth.

Just as she was debating whether to go back inside for warmer clothes, a large coat was draped over her shoulders.

The coat carried a scent unique to one person, so she knew who it was without even turning around.

She finished brushing her teeth and washing her face, stalling for a long while before finally straightening up. She assumed Wyatt Shaw would have left by then, but he was leaning against the wall, watching her with a smile.

Sunlight streamed down on him, bathing him in a soft glow, as if seen through a camera filter.

She suddenly hiccuped, her lips pressing together in a tight line.

’Last night... he had kissed her so aggressively, biting at her lips as if he wanted to devour her.’

"Last night..."

"I slept very well," Yvonne Sutton cut in hurriedly, terrified he was about to bring it up.

Wyatt Shaw stifled a laugh. "I was going to say, I was drunk last night."

"Oh."

"You... didn’t do anything to me, did you?"

Yvonne Sutton’s eyes widened. "Don’t you have that backward?"

"What did I do to you?"

Yvonne Sutton was at a loss for words. "Nothing."

"Then I must have been having an erotic dream."

Yvonne Sutton felt he was toying with her. Fuming, she picked up her washbasin and stormed out of the narrow passage. As she passed by him, she couldn’t contain her anger and gave him a swift kick.
