He Proposed to His First Love, So I Married His Archenemy
Chapter 31: By What Right Do You Humiliate Her?
Everyone was stunned, especially Monica Lynch, Wendy Winters, and Vincent Reed.
They had said she wasn’t worthy of attending this party. They had called her a clown, an embarrassment, and even tried to kick her out. But what right did they have? Silas Rhodes was the true host here.
The host himself was showing Yvonne Sutton respect, so who did those three think they were?
Yvonne hadn’t wanted to be in this kind of setting, and she disliked dancing even more. But she loved the idea of watching those three lose their composure. So, under everyone’s watchful eyes, she walked toward Silas Rhodes.
Like a gentleman, Silas extended a hand to her. "Miss Sutton, thank you for accepting."
Yvonne placed her hand in his. "I might step on your feet."
"Then be gentle."
Yvonne recalled the image of him rolling on the ground clutching his left leg earlier and couldn’t help but let out a laugh.
"You’d better forget you ever saw that."
"I’ll try."
The two danced for a while before other couples began to join them on the floor. Just then, Monica Lynch and Vincent Reed, dancing as partners, approached them.
"Silas, it’s my birthday today. Aren’t you going to ask me for a dance?" Monica whined coquettishly.
Silas tilted his head and glanced at Monica. "I already lent you my villa for your party. You expect me to dance with you, too?"
"It’s just one dance. Do me this favor." Monica’s expression soured.
"And why should I do you any favors?"
"Then... then why did you ask *her* to dance? What makes her so special?"
"Her? She’s my guest of honor. Are you even in the same league?"
At this, Monica completely lost face. She abandoned Vincent and stormed off in a huff.
Vincent watched the two of them, his brow tightly furrowed.
"Mr. Rhodes, you wouldn’t mind if I had a dance with Yvonne Sutton, would you?"
Silas looked at Yvonne. "Miss Sutton, would you like to dance with him?"
Yvonne let out a cold laugh. "I’m not worthy, am I?"
"Of course not. He’s the second young master of the Reed Group, after all."
"He looks down his nose at everyone."
"Thinks he’s better than everyone."
The two went back and forth, their words dripping with ridicule. Vincent couldn’t take the humiliation either and stormed off in a fury. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Yvonne finally felt a sense of satisfaction.
"Oh? You’re wearing the ring?" Silas asked, his eyes darkening as he looked at the ring on her hand.
"I’m getting married soon."
"Who’s the lucky man who gets to marry Miss Sutton?"
"You might know him."
"Oh?"
"If Mr. Rhodes would do me the honor, I’ll send you an invitation then."
She guessed that Wyatt Shaw probably worked for the Rhodes Group, and in a high-ranking position at that. That would explain how he could have visited the Rhodes Family’s private island resort and left those things behind.
"To be honest," Silas leaned closer to Yvonne, "I quite like you. How about you ditch your fiancé and have a whirlwind romance with me?"
As soon as she heard this, Yvonne immediately let go of his hand, but she also caught the mischievous glint in his eyes.
’He’s teasing me!’
"My fiancé is wonderful. Mr. Rhodes probably can’t compare to him."
Silas stuck his hands in his pockets and gave her a suggestive look. "Playing hard to get?"
"Mr. Rhodes probably doesn’t hear the truth very often. For example, you seem like a bit of a player. You’re suited for being a friend, not a husband."
Silas smiled. "So we’re friends now?"
"We can be."
Yvonne extended her hand, and Silas shook it.
"I have to leave the island early tomorrow morning. I hope you’ll make yourself at home here and have a good time."
Yvonne didn’t stay at the party for much longer before returning to her room. Chloe knew she hadn’t eaten and had specially prepared a bowl of seafood noodles for her.
"Miss Sutton, Mr. Rhodes has prepared a room for you in the main villa. You can stay there tonight."
Yvonne shook her head. "I’d rather stay here. That way I can still chat with you, Chloe."
Chloe smiled. "That’s fine, too. Mr. Rhodes said you can do as you please."
「The next day.」 Monica Lynch’s guests began to leave the island in succession.
In the afternoon, Monica and the others were drinking coffee under a parasol outside. When they saw Yvonne come out of her room, they waved her over.
Yvonne walked over with her hands in her pockets, assuming they were about to leave the island and wanted her to get ready. Instead, they wanted to introduce her to a "boyfriend."
"Yvonne, this is my brother, Mason Lynch. You probably saw him around when you were in college."
Yvonne looked at Mason Lynch. He was sizing her up, his gaze so blatant it made her extremely uncomfortable.
"Yvonne, Mason has always liked you a lot," Wendy Winters said. "It was just that you were dating Vincent before, so he had to hide his feelings. Now that you and Vincent have broken up, you can consider him."
Yvonne scoffed. ’Are they all nuts? Setting me up with a boyfriend, of all things.’
"You haven’t changed. Still so beautiful." Mason Lynch stood up, walked behind Yvonne, and tried to push her into a seat.
Yvonne dodged him. "Don’t touch me."
Mason shrugged. "I really do like you, but if you’re going to be with me, you’ll have to fix that temper of yours."
"Hah. You’re getting ahead of yourself."
With that, she turned to leave.
"I’ll give you fifty thousand a month. That’s not a small amount, is it?"
Yvonne’s brow furrowed, unable to believe what she was hearing. She turned back and looked at the people at the table, her gaze finally landing on Vincent Reed, who had remained silent the whole time.
"Vincent Reed, I don’t think I quite understand what they mean. Do you?"
Vincent’s face darkened. "This was your goal all along, wasn’t it? Getting close to Silas Rhodes."
"What goal?"
"Stop pretending. Don’t you just want to be a gold digger? Be someone’s mistress? Well, Silas has high standards; he’d never fall for you. My brother, on the other hand, likes to try new things now and then, and he thinks you’re not bad. Don’t worry, my brother is very generous. He won’t treat you poorly," Monica Lynch sneered.
"Yvonne, Monica doesn’t mean anything by it. She’s just trying to help you," Wendy Winters said with a kind facade. "How about this? I’ll give you my word. As long as you stay with Mason for two years, I’ll have him buy you an apartment. Then you won’t have to rent anymore."
"But there’s one condition: you have to be discreet. You can’t let my wife find out about you," Mason Lynch quickly added.
Yvonne couldn’t help but laugh. So, this Mason Lynch was already married. They weren’t introducing her to a boyfriend—they wanted her to be his mistress!
But what right did they have to humiliate her like this?
Just because she used to be Vincent Reed’s girlfriend, she deserved this?
"Vincent Reed, it’s you! You’re the one who let them humiliate me like this!"
Vincent lit a cigarette and took a harsh drag. "So what do you want? To keep being my mistress?"
Yvonne strode forward, snatched the cup of coffee from the table, and splashed it in Vincent’s face.
"Shameless!"
"Yvonne, you’ve gone too far!" Wendy Winters cried, rushing to wipe Vincent’s face.
Monica nudged Mason. Taking the hint, Mason grabbed Yvonne. "We can go to a room and have a nice, long chat."
"Let go of me!"
"I know you’re already tempted. How about I raise the offer a bit? Eighty thousand a month? That’s not cheap."
"Don’t touch me!"
"Heh, you can drop the act. Do you really think you’re some kind of pure, untouched saint?"
Mason had already dragged Yvonne several steps away when Chloe came rushing over, brandishing a broom.
"What do you think you’re doing on the Rhodes Family’s property!"
