Chapter 99: Chapter 99: People Are All Selfish

’Jean Bell lured Wyatt Shaw here, then arranged for Candice Yates to have a "chance encounter" with him?’

’What is she trying to do?’

The two of them returned to the villa, where a staff member was anxiously looking for Yvonne Sutton.

"Dr. Sutton, an actress suddenly collapsed! Please, come inside and take a look."

Hearing this, Yvonne Sutton told Wyatt Shaw to find Ms. Young and get his accommodations sorted out, while she ran into the villa with the staff member.

The person who had fainted was an actress, and she had already been carried to a guest room on the first floor.

After Yvonne Sutton examined the actress’s condition, she gave her an injection, and she soon woke up. After asking some questions, Yvonne learned she had fainted from excessive dieting and asked a staff member to bring her some food.

Yvonne Sutton came out of the guest room and saw that the film crew had already started shooting. She circled around the back and happened to run into Ms. Young, who she asked about Wyatt Shaw’s whereabouts.

"Mr. Shaw went inside. You didn’t see him?"

Yvonne Sutton had no choice but to go back in. After searching around, she noticed light seeping out from under the door of the room at the far end of the first-floor’s west corridor.

That room had been locked before. Ms. Young had said it was a home theater.

She walked to the door. Just as she was about to push it open, she heard a woman’s voice from inside: "Mr. Shaw, it’s so hot in here."

It was Corinne Joyner’s voice.

She gently pushed the door open and saw Corinne Joyner taking off her jacket. Once it was off, she was left in just her underwear.

Yvonne Sutton raised an eyebrow. ’Isn’t she a little too eager?’

"Mr. Shaw, I still feel so hot. This last piece... would you help me take it off?"

Yvonne Sutton looked at Wyatt Shaw. He was sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed, the corners of his mouth turned up in an amused smirk as he watched Corinne Joyner.

Seeing him remain silent, Corinne Joyner licked her lower lip and walked toward him. Just as she was about to reach him, she deliberately tripped and lunged at Wyatt Shaw with a cry of alarm.

But just then, Wyatt Shaw picked up a lighter and unhurriedly flicked it on.

When Corinne Joyner saw this, she quickly stopped in her tracks, nearly falling into the flame. She clutched her chest, already starting to panic.

Wyatt Shaw scoffed, pulled out a cigarette, and lit it. He took a deep drag and then slowly exhaled, his posture casual and provocative.

"There are only the two of us in this room," Corinne Joyner said, carefully watching Wyatt Shaw’s expression. "No one else will ever know."

She took another step forward and slowly began to lift her skirt.

"On what grounds?" Wyatt Shaw asked, his eyes narrowing.

"Huh?" Corinne Joyner was taken aback.

"Even if you’re going to offer yourself up, you ought to have something special. What do you have? Your face? Your figure? Or that pungent smell all over you?" Wyatt Shaw asked, sounding deceptively sincere.

Corinne Joyner’s face flushed red. "I... I’m Corinne Joyner. You... You don’t know who I am?"

"I don’t."

"I’m a big star, I..."

Wyatt Shaw raised a hand, asking impatiently, "I have a wife. You do know that, right?"

"Am I, Corinne Joyner, somehow not as good as that Yvonne Sutton?"

"Do you not own a mirror? You think you can compare to my wife?"

Corinne Joyner couldn’t take the humiliation anymore. Losing her composure, she retorted, "Countless men try to please me, they all want me! You... You must not be a normal man."

"What the fuck does it matter to you if I’m normal or not? Are you nuts? If you’re sick, go get treated. Don’t come here and act like a cheap slut!"

"You..."

"Get the hell out!"

Crying, Corinne Joyner put her clothes back on and ran out. When she saw Yvonne Sutton at the door, she quickly wiped away her tears.

"I was just... just talking to Mr. Shaw about compensation for that painting."

Yvonne Sutton said coolly, "There’s nothing to discuss. Just pay for it at its original price."

Corinne Joyner huffed and ran off in a fury.

Yvonne Sutton pushed the door open and went inside. The moment she closed it, Wyatt Shaw swept her into his arms and kissed her deeply.

"Here?" Yvonne Sutton asked as she was placed on the sofa.

Wyatt Shaw called out a command, and the lights in the room went out. The ceiling then lit up with twinkling starlight, as if they were in the middle of a vast, open field, surrounded by a sea of stars.

"Honey, you smell so good."

Yvonne Sutton gave Wyatt Shaw a light push on the forehead. "I’m not wearing any perfume."

"No perfume could ever compare to your natural scent."

"I have a natural scent?"

"Mhm." Wyatt Shaw buried his face in her chest and took a deep breath. "That woman’s smell almost suffocated me earlier."

Yvonne Sutton found this amusing. Corinne Joyner’s perfume hadn’t been that pungent at all.

"Just imagine we’re out in the wild right now, with the sky as our blanket and the earth as our bed, and no one else around." He rolled up her clothes. "No one will hear us, no matter how loud we get."

Yvonne Sutton’s body trembled slightly. "But there are people outside."

"Don’t worry, this room is very well soundproofed."

Yvonne Sutton gazed at the starry sky. For a moment, she felt as if she were truly floating, drifting into the silent cosmos. But the universe is cold, and she was burning so hot that her breaths were like fire, in danger of being consumed by Wyatt Shaw’s passion at any moment.

That night, they slept in that room.

Fortunately, the sofa was wide enough that they didn’t feel cramped as they held each other.

In the middle of the night, Yvonne Sutton woke up thirsty. She habitually called out "Honey," but got no response.

She felt around behind her with her eyes still closed, but the space was empty. Only then did she force her eyes open.

Wyatt Shaw wasn’t on the sofa, nor was he in the room. She looked toward the doorway and saw that the door was ajar.

’He went out?’

Yvonne Sutton yawned and had no choice but to get up and get some water herself. The moment she opened the door, the sound of a piano reached her ears. She frowned, thinking, ’What time is it? Are they seriously still filming?’

She stepped out into the hallway and immediately saw Wyatt Shaw standing by a window, gazing, mesmerized, at something. She took a few steps closer, about to call out to him, when she caught sight of the person playing the piano out of the corner of her eye.

A head of neat, short blonde hair, a black leather jacket, and a miniskirt. She was playing the piano with passion, and the music itself was fiery and unrestrained.

Her outfit didn’t match the piano, but it was in perfect harmony with the music.

Domineering and flamboyant, wild and defiant.

She recalled what Mrs. Miller had said: "You two are polar opposites. Your personality is gentle, like a fairy, while she’s arrogant and domineering, like a little demon who tortures people."

But a fairy is probably bland and uninteresting, while a little demon, even while torturing you, drives you wild along with her.

"See? He’s mesmerized by her, even though she just looks like Hannah Abbott. A mere stand-in," Jean Bell said, walking up beside Yvonne Sutton.

Yvonne Sutton frowned and turned to face Jean Bell. "What do you really want?"

"You’ve fallen in love with him, haven’t you."

"So what if I have?"

"When you fall in love with someone, you crave for them to love you back just as much. People are selfish, after all." Jean Bell looked at Wyatt Shaw, her eyes full of lingering affection and bitterness.

"Back then, I drove myself crazy because I was too desperate for his love. You’re just like me. Of course, you’re certain you’re different. You’re even confident enough to believe Wyatt Shaw loves you."

"Heh. Well then, let him give you the answer."

Yvonne Sutton frowned. "I don’t want to know any answer."

"Oh, yes you do. Who will he choose between you and Hannah Abbott’s stand-in? And if you can’t even compare to a substitute, will you still love him without any regrets?"

And just at that moment, Wyatt Shaw moved. He started walking toward Candice Yates.
