I Can Contract Beauties - Chapter 109: Red Devils
Multiple men wearing leather armor and holding weapons came into their view.
Each of them oozes strength and experience in battle as they stop a few meters away as they size Miguel’s group with vigilance.
One of them went forward as he assessed the situation ahead.
"Are you guys perhaps the Red Family members who fired the emergency flare a few days ago?"
Hearing that, Erika and the others looked at each other as she went forward and said, "Yes. It was me who did it."
"And you are?"
The group of men looked at each other as smiles began to surface on their faces as they relaxed their weapons.
"Haha, great. We finally found them."
"We’re going to be rich; we saved a Red Family member in distress, hahaha."
The group celebrated with each other, ignoring Erika’s question.
However, after hearing and seeing what they were doing, Erika immediately knew who they were.
"Are you guys mercenaries?"
One of them nodded his head and went forward, "Yes. My name’s Albert. I am the leader of the small mercenary group, the Red Devils, from Red Cliff City. And these are my comrades."
Albert was wearing leather armor, like his companions. He looked old and well-experienced with his two-part hair paired with his beard full of white strands of hair.
There were a total of seven of them at this moment. A small mercenary group consists of five mercenaries in total, forming a basic single squad.
Mercenary guilds exist in each city all over Blazing Expanse and the whole world. They were vital to the economy and the safety of the cities. They could become the city’s most loyal workforce as long as they got paid enough money.
According to Albert, due to the emergency flare a few days ago, the whole Red Cliff City has been on a state of high alert.
Mercenaries who saw the emergency flare immediately went to search for the whereabouts of the person who sent the emergency flare.
Due to the lord of Red Cliff City being a Red Family member as well, searching for them has become a trend in the city. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
None of them were willing to get left behind and be the last to obtain such a bountiful reward just for reporting the whereabouts of the ones in distress.
The Red Devils Mercenary Group did not expect to find them near Ghost Wail Mountain at all.
After all, this place was very far from where the flare was fired, and Ghost Wail Mountain was also considered a restricted and forbidden place. They just came here by luck after not finding any clues from their previous location. They did not expect to find them here in the end, which made the mercenary group very happy.
Erika also introduced herself formally to the group as well as their present situation.
And as per Miguel’s instructions, Erika only told them that they were saved by an expert who happened to pass by and that they were now on their way to Red Cliff City. Though she did not reveal that ’expert’ was still with them and did not leave yet.
Hearing that they were about to return to Red Cliff City, the Red Devil’s Mercenary Group was instantly elated and immediately offered to escort them home.
"There have been a lot of demonized beasts recently. You guys should come with us, as we are strong enough to protect all of you," one of them suggested.
"He’s right. Although we are small in numbers compared to other mercenary groups, our strength is actually not that bad. It’s also the reason why we dared to set foot on Ghost Wail Mountain," Albert seconded.
Erika and the others looked at each other before nodding their heads in agreement after she subtly saw Miguel nod his head.
"About the Demonized Beasts, what do you mean by that?" Erika inquired.
"Oh, about that. Well, there have been a lot of demonized beasts getting spotted lately around Red Cliff City. The Lord doesn’t know why, but they all seem to be gathering towards the south. Most of them were weak though and are mostly just Normal Grade Level 1 Beasts, so a single mercenary squad like us is more than enough to deal with them."
"Right, we also saw a lot of demonized beast corpses along the way here; I wonder if they are also going to the south," Alber added.
"Well, it doesn’t matter now. The lord and the city guards are already investigating it."
Miguel tilted his head in confusion regarding this new information. If all those beasts who were going south did not die even after they dealt with the Demon Heart, then it could only mean that there was another demonic miasma source around aside from the Demon Heart.
He did not think that these were all coincidences, as he thought that this event was far from over.
What he was worried about, though, was that Peach Village was located in the south. That Gold Grade Beast was already on its way there, and he began to worry about Sara’s safety all of a sudden.
On the other hand, when Erika and the others agreed, Albert and the others offered to drive the carriages so that they could travel without pause.
After all, the servants’ stamina was limited, and they could not compare to mercenaries like them, who trained their bodies every day. They could only drive the Level 2 Wind Horses for an hour or two without stopping, while the mercenaries, who were much stronger, would drive them for a double period of time.
Fortunately, transferring authority over the Summoning Crystal was easy as long as the previous owner willingly parted with it. And unless it broke during a battle or when the beast it was bound with died during a battle, it would also not affect the spirit of the user.
When the beast it was bound with also betrayed and escaped the binding of the Summoning Crystal, the Summoning Crystal would only break, and it had little to no effects on the user, unlike when the contracted beast of a grimoire summoner dies or betrays its master.
The sun was now about to set, and the mercenary group suggested that they set off now and find a safe place to hide for the night. They were still worried about the demonized beast and would not want to risk their lives, especially since they were about to earn a lot of money by bringing Erika home safely.
After three hours of driving without rest, the group finally stopped as the mercenary group finally found a safe place to camp for the night.
Being experienced as they were, they immediately set up a lot of traps in their surroundings that could notify them when an intrusion was made.
After they set up their camp, everyone immediately gathered together to eat, except for Journey and Edith at least.
Inside the carriage, Edith looked at the meditating Miguel eagerly, as though a child waiting for a treat.
Her eyes beamed in joy as she saw Miguel finally open his eyes after an hour of meditation.
"How did it go?"
The lizard skull mask as well as Edith’s mask were placed to the side.
Miguel smiled at her as he said, "It’s done. I created a new skill, [Barrier of Concealment]."
