I Stepped Aside for Her, Now They Beg My Forgiveness Every Night
Chapter 152: It Was Just a Kiss, Do You Have to Be Like This?
Noelle Sutton froze. She shoved Tristan Lawson away with all her might, quickly pulling the blanket over herself. Her face was a mask of vigilance.
"It was just a kiss. Do you have to be like this?"
She never used to be like this.
Her rejection infuriated him!
Ever since that Wyatt Yates showed up, she’d been reluctant to let him touch her.
Noelle Sutton cursed her inability to speak. Otherwise, she would have called him a dirty pervert.
’He didn’t even consider where he was kissing me.’
She covered herself securely, then extended her hands to sign, "You’re being a pervert in broad daylight! Get out, I’ll change by myself."
Tristan Lawson’s mood eased slightly.
She was shy. Acting like this during the day, and in a hospital no less—it was indeed unacceptable for someone with her personality.
’As long as it’s not because of another man, it’s fine.’
He was still trying to coax her. He didn’t want to cause a scene that would make her refuse to even go home.
So he got up and left.
Noelle Sutton quickly changed her clothes and walked out of the hospital room.
Tristan Lawson walked up, gripped her hand tightly, and led her out.
On the way, Noelle Sutton didn’t say a word to him. When they returned to Westhill Villa, Joshua Lawson was nestled affectionately beside Sophie Hughes, saying to her, "Sophie, can you try to convince my dad not to have a wedding right now? Even if he isn’t embarrassed, I am."
"Joshua Lawson!"
Tristan Lawson’s voice was cold.
Joshua Lawson looked up and saw Tristan Lawson’s grim, cold face. Remembering how his father had scolded him at the paper-cutting competition that morning, he got scared and hugged Sophie Hughes’s arm tightly, hiding behind her.
Noelle Sutton wished they could talk Tristan Lawson out of it.
She didn’t want to have a wedding in the first place.
"Tristan, Noelle, you’re back." Sophie Hughes greeted them politely, then added, "Tristan, you shouldn’t always be so harsh with Joshua. It will affect his mental and physical development."
Mrs. Miller came over and said, "Sir, Ma’am, dinner is ready. You can eat now."
Tristan Lawson had originally wanted to teach Joshua Lawson a good lesson, but now it was dinnertime. Plus, with an outsider present, it wasn’t the best time to discipline his child.
At noon, neither Noelle Sutton nor he had eaten anything, so he said, "Let’s eat first."
Tristan Lawson naturally took Noelle Sutton’s hand, walked to the dining table, and pulled out a chair for her like a true gentleman.
Sophie Hughes led Joshua Lawson over.
She and Joshua Lawson sat across from Tristan Lawson and Noelle Sutton.
With elegant movements, Tristan Lawson ladled a bowl of soup and placed it in front of Noelle Sutton. "You just had a high fever and you didn’t eat at noon. Have some soup to warm your stomach first."
His voice was as gentle as water.
Sophie Hughes felt as if her heart was bleeding.
He had once shown such thoughtful tenderness only to her.
Noelle Sutton kept her head down and ate.
Whether Sophie Hughes was there or not, she no longer felt much of anything.
Tristan Lawson continuously put food on Noelle Sutton’s plate, even deboning the fish before placing it in her bowl.
For Sophie Hughes, every single minute and second of tonight’s dinner was torture.
Noelle Sutton occasionally lifted her gaze, her eyes sweeping lightly over Sophie Hughes.
Sophie Hughes’s expression was quite a sight.
’To say there’s nothing romantic between her and Tristan Lawson... I simply don’t believe it.’
’I’m a woman, I’ve been in love. I know all too well what it looks like when someone loves another person.’
’Sophie Hughes’s expression clearly shows she’s deeply in love with Tristan Lawson.’
Noelle Sutton looked at Tristan Lawson and pointed to the shrimp on the table with her chopsticks.
Tristan Lawson quickly picked up a shrimp, peeled it clean, and placed it in Noelle Sutton’s bowl.
If one wasn’t enough, he gave her two.
If two weren’t enough, he gave her three...
Sophie Hughes could barely stay in her seat.
Joshua Lawson was also bewildered. Why was his dad suddenly being so nice to his mom?
In the past, during meals, it was always his mom who peeled shrimp and put it in his dad’s bowl.
Seeing Noelle Sutton take the initiative to have him peel shrimp for her, Tristan Lawson’s mood improved greatly.
Sophie Hughes suddenly put down her chopsticks and said, "Tristan, I’m done eating. I’m going to head back now."
Tristan Lawson gave a soft "mm."
But Joshua Lawson grabbed Sophie Hughes’s hand, whining, "Sophie, you just promised you’d stay with me tonight until I fall asleep."
Noelle Sutton put down her chopsticks and signed to Sophie Hughes, "Adults shouldn’t break their promises to children. Miss Hughes, you should stay."
Tristan Lawson furrowed his brow. ’Doesn’t she really dislike having Sophie Hughes stay at their home?’
’Has she come around? Is she ready to go back to how things were before?’
This was the first time Noelle Sutton had initiated a conversation with Sophie Hughes. Curious about Noelle’s motive, Sophie decided to stay.
"Alright then. I’ll go play with Joshua for a bit."
Joshua Lawson happily pulled Sophie Hughes upstairs.
Tristan Lawson picked up a shrimp and was about to continue peeling when Noelle Sutton signed, "I’m done eating too. You don’t need to peel any more. I’m going to take a shower first."
She got up and returned to her room.
She took her phone out of her bag, grabbed a change of clothes, went into the bathroom, and locked the door from the inside.
There were quite a few unread messages on her phone.
Hugo Sterling had sent a message asking if she needed him to step in and help.
There was also one from Director Ford.
After what happened that day, Director Ford felt quite guilty and was asking if she and Tristan Lawson were really getting a divorce.
The rest were from Wyatt Yates.
[The Little Mute, you really don’t have to worry about the Yates Group’s affairs... If you give up on your own future because you’re worried about implicating the Yates Group, I’ll blame myself.]
[I’m really not afraid of Tristan Lawson at all. I’ve made up my mind. I’ll cut ties with my family and go abroad with you tomorrow.]
[If Tristan Lawson locks you up at home, you tell me. No matter what method I have to use, I will get you out.]
[The Little Mute, reply to my message.]
Noelle Sutton clutched her phone tightly.
She and Wyatt Yates had known each other since childhood.
After her mother’s early death, her father had abandoned her and disappeared without a trace.
Back then, Wyatt Yates was from a single-parent family; his mother had gotten pregnant out of wedlock.
Wyatt Yates used to get into fights. One time, after being disciplined by Aunt Rhodes with a stick, he ran off by himself. Noelle Sutton, worried about him, followed behind.
He ran to the lake to throw stones, murmuring about why he didn’t have a father and how he wanted one too.
Other people didn’t know, but Noelle Sutton knew.
He longed for a complete family.
In truth, she was the same.
That was why, after she got a new family, she cherished it dearly. Unless it was absolutely necessary, she could never bear to let her family fall apart. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
How could she let Wyatt Yates cut ties with his family because of her?
She immediately replied to Wyatt Yates’s message.
[Don’t even think about it. I’ll figure out a way to solve my own problems. It might take a little time, but you don’t have to worry about me. Tristan Lawson won’t do anything to me.]
Wyatt Yates finally received her message, but he knew she was definitely saying things she didn’t mean.
She had suffered so many grievances by Tristan Lawson’s side. After going back this time, there was no telling what awaited her.
[The Little Mute, don’t be so stubborn anymore. As long as I leave the Yates Family, Tristan Lawson will have no way to threaten me. I can take you to get treatment for your aphonia, and I can also provide you with resources in the animation industry. You won’t have to live such a wronged life anymore.]
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
A knock came from outside the bathroom door.
