Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Lowering His Head to Kiss

Sophie Hughes returned to her hospital bed and lay down. She took out her phone and sent a text message.

Seeing Tristan Lawson standing there motionless, Joshua Lawson whispered, "Dad, aren’t you going in to see Sophie?"

She was hurt; he should at least go take a look.

Noelle Sutton was currently asleep. Her IV drip had just been started, so it would be a while before the bag needed to be changed.

Tristan Lawson and his son walked into Sophie Hughes’s hospital room together.

When Sophie Hughes saw them, she called out, "Tristan, Joshua."

Then, she weakly tried to sit up.

Tristan Lawson strode forward, picked up a pillow, and placed it behind Sophie Hughes’s back.

Watching Tristan’s caring gesture, Sophie’s heart ached with an even greater bitterness. ’He’s still so gentle with me, but now there’s someone else in his heart.’

’I can’t let this happen.’

’How could our love possibly tolerate another person?’

After positioning the pillow, Tristan Lawson supported Sophie’s shoulders and helped her lean back. Joshua Lawson leaned over the side of the bed, his voice filled with heartache and concern. "Sophie, are you feeling any better? Does it still hurt?"

Sophie dotingly stroked Joshua’s little head and said, "Now that Joshua is here showing me such concern, it doesn’t hurt anymore."

"You’re lying. You lost so much blood, how could it not hurt? Will it leave a scar? Sophie, you’re so elegant and beautiful, you absolutely can’t get a scar."

Sophie smiled. "It won’t leave a scar. The last time I was injured, your dad specially bought me scar-removal cream from abroad. By the way, where’s your mother?"

At the mention of his mother, the smile vanished from Joshua’s face. "Mom has a fever. She’s still sleeping."

’Regarding the paper-cutting competition, if Mom doesn’t apologize to me first, I swear I won’t be the one to talk to her.’

’Mom hasn’t been home much lately. If Sophie hadn’t been here to keep me company, I would have been so lonely and helpless.’

He was very angry. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

He wasn’t going to get over it that quickly.

Sophie lifted her eyes to Tristan and said in a gentle and gracious manner, "Tristan, Noelle is finally back, and she has a fever. People are most vulnerable when they’re sick. You should go be with her. I’ll go see her after she wakes up."

"Okay."

Sophie had been getting injured one after another recently. Seeing that she was all right, Tristan felt relieved.

Sophie had only said it to be polite; she never expected Tristan to actually leave.

Her heart sank.

Joshua mumbled, "Sophie, you just said people are most vulnerable when they’re sick, but aren’t you sick too? Dad should’ve stayed with you a little longer before leaving."

Joshua looked up, smiled at Sophie, and said, "But don’t be scared, Sophie. I’ll stay with you."

When Tristan arrived at Noelle’s room, she still had her eyes closed.

He sat by the head of the bed.

The room was so quiet that Noelle could even hear Tristan’s breathing.

After a moment, she heard Tristan’s footsteps heading out.

Not three minutes later, she could clearly sense two people entering the room.

Tristan’s voice was very low. "She’s sleeping. Be quiet."

Noelle felt a nurse changing the IV bag. Her movements were very slight. After changing the bag, the nurse left.

The hospital room fell silent once more.

Noelle heard Tristan sending messages on his phone.

As she pretended to be asleep, she eventually, truly fell asleep.

Tristan’s phone rang. He quickly turned the volume down to its lowest setting, tiptoed out of the room, and answered the call.

"Hello, CEO Lawson. The acquisition plan for the Yates Group has been drafted. Should I send it to you for review?"

Tristan recalled the angry expression on Noelle’s face at the restaurant when he’d said he was going to acquire the Yates Group. He paused for a moment before saying, "Just leave it in my office for now."

"Understood. Also, I’ve contacted several wedding planning companies. They’ve all sent over their proposals. When would be a convenient time for Mrs. Lawson to choose one?"

"She’s hospitalized. Have someone deliver them to Westhill Villa. She can look at them after she’s discharged."

Sophie wasn’t seriously hurt. Once her wound was bandaged and her IV drip was finished, she was more or less ready to be discharged.

Passing by Noelle’s room, she saw Tristan sitting quietly by the head of the bed through the small glass window on the door.

She bent down and said to Joshua, "Your dad has to stay at the hospital to take care of your mom, so let’s not disturb them. How about I take you home first?"

"Thank you, Sophie."

Sophie led Joshua back to Westhill Villa.

As it happened, Secretary Shaw had just sent someone to deliver the proposals from the wedding planning companies.

Sophie and Joshua received the proposals together.

Looking at the sample pictures in the brochures, Joshua asked Sophie in confusion, "Who’s getting married? Why were these sent to our house?"

Joshua might not have understood, but how could Sophie not?

’Tristan is planning a wedding for Noelle.’

’Has he... really fallen in love with Noelle?’

Sophie clenched her jaw, nearly mad with jealousy.

’Tristan is mine.’

’Seven years ago, we were so close to getting married.’

’If I had been the one to marry Tristan back then, my child would be about Joshua’s age by now.’

’Everything here, this perfect and happy marriage—it was all supposed to be mine.’

"Sophie?"

Joshua called out to Sophie, seeing that she was lost in a daze.

Sophie snapped back to reality and smiled. "It must be for your dad and mom’s wedding. I heard your dad say that he never had a wedding ceremony with your mom."

Joshua frowned. "But I’m a big kid already. Why do they want to have a wedding now?"

’If Dad has a wedding, it’ll definitely be in the news. Then wouldn’t everyone know that my mom is Noelle?’

’Then my pretense of Sophie being my mom in front of others will be exposed. Everyone will think I’m a little liar.’

’What am I going to do?’

When Noelle opened her eyes again, the sky had already begun to darken.

"You’re awake?"

Tristan’s calm, pleasant voice drifted over to her.

She turned her head to look at him.

’He’s been here this whole time?’

"The doctor just came by. Your fever has broken. Get up, change your clothes, and we’ll go home."

Noelle knew she couldn’t resist him for the time being, so she lifted the covers and sat up.

Tristan handed her the clothes Mrs. Miller had sent over.

She signed: "Get out."

The man’s lips curled into a slight smile. "Is there any part of you I haven’t seen?"

An embarrassed look crossed her face, but she still insisted that he leave.

Tristan sat directly on the edge of the hospital bed and reached for the buttons on her gown.

She clutched the front of her gown, glaring at him with a look of defiance.

"Be good. Don’t test my patience."

His tone was gentle, but every word was laced with an undeniable threat.

Noelle slowly released her hand.

Her own clothes had been soaked through earlier, so the nurse had changed her into a hospital gown. There was nothing underneath.

As Tristan saw her pale, glowing skin, his Adam’s apple bobbed.

It had been too long since he’d had a taste of her.

In that instant, he uncontrollably lowered his head, buried his face in her chest, and kissed her.
