I Stepped Aside for Her, Now They Beg My Forgiveness Every Night
Chapter 54: Is This for Me?
"Hello, Tristan? What’s wrong?"
Tessa Lawson was working on a design draft. She put her phone on speaker and set it on her desk.
"What’s the situation with Noelle Sutton?"
"How should I know? She looked terrible this morning. I told her to get a checkup, but she said it was just from staying up late and that she’d be fine after some rest. Hasn’t she come back yet?"
Tristan Lawson’s sharp features darkened.
"No."
Tessa Lawson let go of her mouse and leaned back in her chair. Picking up her phone, she pursed her lips and said, "I bet it has something to do with that little brat, Joshua Lawson. Noelle was the one who asked me to go to the hospital yesterday morning, too. She said that since she’s mute, she was worried she’d run into one of Joshua’s acquaintances and embarrass him. So she asked me to cover the day shift while she took the night shift. This isn’t the first time, Tristan. You need to teach your son a lesson. Being ashamed of his own mother... what kind of behavior is that?"
Tristan Lawson’s brow furrowed, and his long fingers curled slightly.
"Okay, I understand. I have to go."
Tristan put his phone away and half-closed his eyes.
He sat perfectly straight, as if lost in thought.
Soon, Tristan arrived at the airport.
He passed a luxury boutique, stopped, glanced inside, and walked in.
His eyes immediately fell upon an exquisite swan brooch.
The long necks of two swans intertwined to form the shape of a heart. Their platinum wings were densely encrusted with high-grade pavé diamonds that glittered dazzlingly under the light. Their red beaks touched, suspending a top-quality, teardrop-shaped South Sea pearl.
Tristan had seen Noelle Sutton’s swan-like, slender neck. He had also seen the tears that fell when she begged him for mercy in bed.
He decided to buy it on the spot.
"Sir, you have excellent taste. This brooch is a limited edition that just launched tonight. Across all our chain stores, there’s only one per province. The one for North Province is here at our store; we just received the stock."
Tristan frowned slightly after hearing this. In a low, steady voice, he said, "Can you have all of them sent here? I’ll take them all."
This brooch was perfect for Noelle.
There was no reason his wife should wear the same thing as someone else.
"Well..." The sales associate hesitated for a moment. "Let me call our headquarters."
"Fine. If any have already been sold, I’m willing to buy them back at double the price."
The sales associate’s eyes lit up.
The man before her had an extraordinary air about him; one look and you could tell he was wealthy.
This brooch was not cheap. If she could sell all twenty-three at once, her commission would be substantial.
She quickly contacted headquarters.
Fortunately, they had all just been delivered to the stores and hadn’t been sold yet.
The sales associate immediately told Tristan, "Sir, they’re all still available."
"Pull them from the shelves immediately."
Tristan took out a black card and handed it to the associate.
"Please wait a moment, sir."
The associate took the black card and informed headquarters to pull the items immediately.
A single brooch cost eight million. By purchasing twenty-three identical brooches at once, Tristan spent a total of one hundred eighty-four million.
The associate asked Tristan for his address and arranged to have the remaining 22 brooches mailed to him sequentially.
Tristan left his address. The associate packaged the one on-site and handed it to him respectfully.
"Please take care, sir."
As Tristan was leaving, the sales associate sneakily took a picture of his back.
’He’s so incredibly stylish!’
’I’ve never seen a man so handsome, so extravagant, and so commanding.’
’Buying all twenty-three in one go!’
’If he destroys the other twenty-two, then there will only be one left. Its value would skyrocket. As far as I know, the teardrop shape of these twenty-three top-quality pearls is all-natural. It would be nearly impossible to find matching pearls anytime soon!’
Just as Tristan reached the departure lounge, an announcement came over the speakers.
"Dear passengers, we regret to inform you that Imperial Air flight DH3313 to Cygnus, originally scheduled for 11:58 PM, is unable to depart on time due to thunderstorms and heavy rain in Cygnus. Please pay attention to the display screens in the departure lounge or use the airport app or your booking channels to get real-time updates..."
Tristan pulled out his phone and quickly checked the weather information and latest news for Cygnus.
A red alert for thunderstorms and torrential rain had been issued for Cygnus, which was already experiencing lightning and downpours.
According to the latest meteorological reports, the rain would continue for the next six hours.
’It seems flying to Cygnus today is impossible,’ he thought.
Just then, Secretary Shaw called.
"CEO Lawson, I saw the news. All flights to Cygnus have been temporarily canceled. I’m on my way to the airport."
Under the circumstances, Tristan had no choice but to turn back for now.
Secretary Shaw picked Tristan up at the airport exit.
"CEO Lawson, should I take you home, or...?"
"Let’s go to the hospital."
Since he was back, there was no reason to have Sophie Hughes continue looking after Joshua Lawson.
When the car reached the hospital entrance, Tristan said before getting out, "Wait here for a bit."
Tristan went to Joshua Lawson’s hospital room.
Sophie Hughes had fallen asleep, slumped over the head of Joshua’s bed.
Tristan’s brow tightened. He gently tapped Sophie’s shoulder.
Sophie opened her eyes and saw Tristan.
Afraid of waking Joshua, she kept her voice low. "Tristan, what are you doing back here?"
"You’ll catch a cold sleeping like that. Secretary Shaw is outside. You should go home and rest. I’ll take care of Joshua."
"Did you find Noelle?"
Tristan said in a low voice, "I did. Don’t worry about her for now. Go home and get some sleep."
"But..."
"No buts. Be good. A girl shouldn’t stay up so late; it’s bad for your health."
Only then did Sophie slowly stand up.
"Okay, I’ll head back first. Don’t stay up too late, either. You can rest for the night on the other bed. The doctor said Joshua can be discharged tomorrow."
"Mm."
After Sophie left, Tristan sent a message to Secretary Shaw, telling him to take her to Westhill Villa.
After Sophie got in the car and sat down, she saw a very exquisite shopping bag on the back seat.
She picked it up and asked casually, "Secretary Shaw, what’s this?"
Secretary Shaw glanced back and said, "It probably belongs to CEO Lawson."
Secretary Shaw started the car.
Sophie took a box out of the shopping bag.
Through the rearview mirror, Secretary Shaw saw Sophie brazenly opening CEO Lawson’s belongings.
He frowned. He wanted to say something but didn’t dare make a sound.
Sophie opened the box. Inside was an extremely exquisite swan brooch. A top-quality, teardrop-shaped pearl dangled from the beaks of the two swans. It was beautiful.
The corners of her lips tilted up.
’Tristan really hasn’t forgotten our past,’ she thought.
When they were young, she had impulsively decided to raise a pair of swans at home, but she was terrible at it and often had to ask Tristan for help.
That pair of swans had been with them for a long time.
Later, when the swans passed away one after the other, she had been heartbroken for a long time.
Using photos of the swans, Tristan had custom-ordered several crystal crafts for her: one for the car, one for her desk, a keychain, a bag charm, and more...
Sophie took out her phone, took a picture of the swan brooch, and sent it to Tristan on WeChat.
[Tristan, is this for me?]
