I Stepped Aside for Her, Now They Beg My Forgiveness Every Night
Chapter 85: Do You Think Tristan Will Get a Divorce?
Their table was in the best spot in the main hall, offering a perfect view.
Tristan Lawson wasn’t the only one who saw Noelle Sutton. The moment Sophie Hughes looked up, she saw her too.
Her gaze instantly shifted to Tristan Lawson.
Tristan Lawson stared intently at the entrance, his gaze locked on Noelle Sutton.
"Tristan, is Noelle here for you? I’ll go get her. I don’t think she’s seen us."
"Sophie."
Tristan Lawson drew back his cold, deep gaze. Smoke curled from the cigarette between his fingers, his elegant posture appearing all the more sensual and alluring in the club’s hazy atmosphere. "Pay her no mind."
Sophie Hughes was stunned.
Kyle Sawyer immediately glanced at Sophie Hughes, then at Tristan Lawson.
Adrian Grant, for his part, was also watching them.
Kyle Sawyer couldn’t resist. A roguish grin spread across his face. "Who’s this Noelle you’re talking about? Where is she?"
Sophie Hughes was even more stunned. "Kyle, you don’t know Noelle?"
"Noelle this, Noelle that... I have no idea. Adrian, do you?"
Kyle Sawyer was genuinely cavalier, but he could still tell this Noelle had something to do with Tristan Lawson. Yet he’d never heard Tristan mention any woman by that name.
Adrian Grant shrugged. He had no idea who Noelle was either.
In all these years, Tristan Lawson had never allowed Noelle Sutton to meet any of his friends.
At first, Kyle Sawyer and Adrian Grant would ask about her, curious to meet the woman.
But Tristan Lawson refused, acting as if his wife simply didn’t exist.
As far as they were concerned, it was just Tristan Lawson acting out against his family because he couldn’t marry Sophie Hughes. The matter eventually faded, and they lost interest in asking. Since Tristan himself didn’t seem to care about his wife, they all just treated him as if he were single.
The other day, Old Master Lawson had publicly revealed Tristan Lawson and Noelle Sutton’s marriage certificate, leading to Tristan and Sophie Hughes getting swarmed by the media at the airport.
While still on the road, Tristan Lawson had Secretary Shaw make the whole thing disappear.
Some people were in the know; others were kept in the dark.
Judging by Kyle Sawyer and Adrian Grant’s reactions, the two of them must have been in the dark.
Sophie Hughes was utterly floored. "Tristan, Kyle Sawyer and Adrian Grant are friends we grew up with. How could you not even tell them that Noelle is your wife?"
Both Kyle Sawyer and Adrian Grant were shocked.
Kyle Sawyer, especially, demanded, "So where is this Noelle? Which one is she? Quick, point her out to me! I want to see what kind of woman Tristan married."
Kyle Sawyer scanned the room.
Before, Tristan Lawson had refused to bring her out, so they hadn’t thought much of it.
But now that she had suddenly appeared, it was enough to pique their curiosity.
She was Tristan Lawson’s wife, after all.
Adrian Grant was a little curious too, and he looked at Tristan Lawson, waiting for an answer.
Sophie Hughes hadn’t been in close contact with Kyle Sawyer and Adrian Grant for a long time, so she truly hadn’t realized that Tristan Lawson had kept his marriage to Noelle Sutton so secret.
Though she was secretly thrilled, her expression turned somber and she said sadly, "Tristan, since coming back, I’ve realized how terribly you treat Noelle. You’ve been married for seven years, yet people this close to you don’t even know who she is. How do you think that makes her feel? No wonder she’s been giving you the cold shoulder. Any other woman would have lost her patience long ago."
Kyle Sawyer tugged on Sophie Hughes’s sleeve. "Well, that’s because Tristan only married her for show. The person in his heart is—"
Sophie Hughes smacked Kyle Sawyer’s arm, cutting him off. "Don’t talk nonsense."
Kyle Sawyer reluctantly shut his mouth.
They were all well aware of the history between Tristan Lawson and Sophie Hughes. The whole affair had caused a huge scandal back in the day.
The Lawson family had even had a falling out with the Hughes family over it.
Sophie Hughes’s return suggested that relations had thawed a bit.
He and Sophie Hughes were close, so naturally, he wouldn’t do anything to make Tristan lose face in public.
Adrian Grant, however, looked at Tristan Lawson thoughtfully. "Sophie has a point. No woman would put up with this for so long. Why don’t you bring her over and introduce us? It would be a way to finally acknowledge her."
"There’s nothing to acknowledge."
Tristan Lawson picked up his glass and took a hard swallow.
’Noelle Sutton is just too unruly.’
’I already handled everything.’
’All she had to do was send me a single text, and I would have let it all go and brought her home.’
’But her?’
’All she does is ruin my fun.’
’Still, if she were to come over to him now, on her own accord...’
’...he could consider forgiving her this once.’
Sophie Hughes noticed that Noelle Sutton was gone. She stood up and said with feigned anger, "Tristan, you... I don’t even know what to say to you. Fine. If you won’t bring her over, I will."
Sophie Hughes glanced in the direction where she had just seen Noelle Sutton.
"Huh? Where’d she go?"
Tristan Lawson looked up. The familiar figure was gone, and his expression instantly darkened.
His thin lips pressed into a line, radiating anger.
Kyle Sawyer pulled Sophie Hughes back down into her seat. "If Tristan can’t be bothered, we shouldn’t worry about it either."
Seeing Tristan Lawson’s lack of reaction confirmed it for Kyle Sawyer once again: Tristan couldn’t care less about the woman who had even borne him a son.
Sophie Hughes still wore an uneasy expression. "But..."
"Oh, enough with the buts. Here, have some fruit."
Kyle Sawyer speared a piece of fruit with a small disposable fork and placed it in Sophie Hughes’s hand.
Sophie Hughes hadn’t actually wanted to go get Noelle Sutton anyway, so she took the excuse to say no more.
Tristan Lawson stubbed out his nearly finished cigarette in the ashtray. "I’m going to the restroom."
With Tristan Lawson’s abrupt departure, the atmosphere seemed to shift subtly.
Kyle Sawyer raised his glass, motioning for Adrian Grant to drink with him.
"Adrian, do you think Tristan will get a divorce?"
Adrian Grant raised an eyebrow. "Hard to say."
They had always assumed Tristan Lawson would get a divorce, but seven years had passed without a single rumor of it happening.
Kyle Sawyer shot a meaningful glance at Sophie Hughes. "Sophie, what do you think?"
Sophie Hughes’s cheeks grew slightly warm. "How would I know?"
Standing by the restroom entrance, Tristan Lawson called Secretary Shaw.
"My wife is at The Carmine Club. Come inside and find her. See what she’s up to."
With that, Tristan Lawson hung up.
’This is no place for her.’
The Carmine Club was one of Adrian Grant’s establishments.
A moment later, his phone lit up with a message.
His lips curved into a smile.
’Interesting.’
’Then again, this is very much Tristan Lawson’s style.’
After sending a reply, Adrian Grant raised his glass and clinked it against Kyle Sawyer’s.
"Kyle, do you think Tristan will come back after his trip to the restroom?"
"The night’s not over. Why wouldn’t he?"
Adrian Grant sipped his red wine, a faint smile on his lips. "I have a feeling there’s going to be some drama at The Carmine Club tonight."
Sophie Hughes sensed a hidden meaning in Adrian Grant’s words. She furrowed her brow. "Adrian, what are you trying to say?"
A vague sense of unease washed over her.
Adrian Grant swirled the wine in his glass. "It’d be no fun to spoil it. Let’s just wait and see."
Kyle Sawyer arched a brow. "Come on, man, don’t leave us hanging."
