I Was Forced To Marry The Phoenix Empress
Chapter 236: Pride over Apology
Noticing Gao Zhen’s speechless expression, Yi Chen grinned with a victorious expression and dealt a severe blow to the incoming soldier’s neck.
CRACK!
However, just at that instant, his sword once again shattered into shards.
’Shiiit!’ he cursed in his mind.
During his exchange with Gao Zhen, he hadn’t been as careful as before when striking at the soldiers, leading to his sword getting corroded quickly.
Not wanting to get overwhelmed by the horde, he immediately took out another spare from his storage ring and engaged with that. However, with only one spare remaining in his storage ring, his mood was anything but good.
Seeing this, Gao Zhen snickered in amusement and commented, "Serves you right."
At the same time, she carefully checked her sword’s blade and, seeing that it was completely unblemished and as sharp as before, felt a wave of relief.
Clearly hearing Gao Zhen’s comment, Yi Chen gritted his teeth in frustration but, not wanting to lose this sword as well, created some distance between them by force and decided to completely ignore her from then on.
CLANG!
CLANG!
CLANG!
They kept battling non-stop, and exhaustion started to take its toll on them. Especially Gao Zhen, who was forced to take several strong blows in order to deal with those soldiers.
Even though she tried to defend all their strikes while dealing with them, some still managed to slip through and hit her shoulders, stomach and sides.
If not for the few high-grade healing pills she possessed, she would have already died tens of times.
As the number of pills inside her storage ring began to dwindle, hesitation started to surface on her face.
By now, they had dealt with more than a thousand Glacial soldiers together. However, their numbers still didn’t appear to decrease.
’If this goes on any further then I’ll be the first one to lose my life...’ Gao Zhen gritted her teeth and turned to check Yi Chen’s side.
He was still standing strong and was constantly dealing with at least three Glacial soldiers in just a breath’s time.
Seeing how his sword was claiming the Glacial soldiers’ heads one after the other, Gao Zhen couldn’t help but purse her lips.
A part of her wanted to ask for his help, but with how things had taken a turn for the worse between the two of them, she felt too ashamed to request help from him.
’It was my fault all along...’ she thought regretfully while dealing with the Glacial soldiers with all her might.
Her body ached, wounds bled and regret piled up with every exchange.
A strong punch to her stomach made her vomit out thick, dark blood as her eyes began to turn blurry.
’If only I had reacted more maturely and hadn’t blamed him back then, I wouldn’t have to face such an end...’
She bit her lips and lunged in the direction of the Ice soldier that had just gravely injured her, the next instant.
With how shamefully she acted back then, she couldn’t bring herself to face Yi Chen and apologise to him even in the face of death. Her pride wouldn’t allow that to happen.
CLANG!
CLANG!
Therefore, while clashing with the Ice soldiers this time, she rapidly circulated all her Qi the very next instant.
She was intending to use all her Qi and spiritual energy to reduce a large number of these soldiers to fragments.
’It should be enough to lower the ones you have to deal with by several hundred...’ she thought while glancing towards Yi Chen one last time.
He was still carrying a ferocious expression on his face and dealing with the Ice soldiers with no signs of fatigue.
Seeing this, Gao Zhen was about to turn her head and initiate her final attack, but just then she heard a loud cracking sound.
’Did it break again?’ she thought while waiting for Yi Chen to take out another one of his spare swords.
However, he didn’t. Instead, like a crazed man, he howled in a mix of anger and frustration and started punching the Ice soldiers like there was no tomorrow.
Although his fists were coated with Qi, not being as proficient in fist arts as he was in swordsmanship, his damage output had drastically reduced.
’This...’
Seeing the sudden change in the situation, Gao Zhen couldn’t help but furrow her forehead and suddenly thought of something.
’Wait...was that his last spare sword?’
Realising this, she immediately glanced inside her storage ring and found dozens of extra swords lying around.
An idea immediately appeared in her mind, and using half of her remaining Qi, she first cleared all the Ice soldiers in front of her.
"Spiralling Wind of Death!"
It was a technique she had created herself using her understanding of her Qi Absorption Art when her cultivation was at its peak.
So, using it with her cultivation only being at the First Qi Absorption Stage now was very taxing, but she still saw it through as two-thirds of her spiritual energy was instantly consumed along with a major chunk of her innate Qi.
A violent gust of air shot past Gao Zhen’s body and soon turned into a violent whirlwind a few meters away.
In its range, hundreds of Ice monsters were caught and flew several hundred feet above the ground before crashing straight down, dismembering into thousands of pieces.
While this was all taking place, Gao Zhen immediately turned towards Yi Chen and shouted, "Yi Chen!"
Her voice immediately caught Yi Chen’s attention, making him turn towards her.
"Here!"
Seeing that she got his attention, she immediately threw a sword that she had just taken out from her storage ring in his direction.
When Yi Chen saw this scene, he immediately caught the sword at the right time and cut down the tens of Glacial soldiers that were irritating him all this while in a single slash.
’Good sword!’ he mentally exclaimed. Unlike the cheap spares he held in his storage ring, all the swords Gao Zhen possessed were of high quality.
At that instant, Gao Zhen’s next set of words reached his ears.
"I’ve got several dozen of them in my storage ring, so in return, please deal with the ones coming after me as well!"
’Why should I?’
Yi Chen frowned the moment he heard those words. Just a few hours back, the two of them were at each other’s throats, so it was obvious for such thoughts to enter his mind.
However, his gaze soon fell on Gao Zhen’s figure, and he noticed how injured she was.
’This... how did her condition become so severe?’ he had been totally focused on dealing with the soldiers until then and hadn’t paid any attention to her during this time.
’No...if something happens to her, then I will be trapped in this place forever!’
Immediately reminded of the condition to leave this domain, he exclaimed in his mind.
With that string of thought in his mind, he immediately met Gao Zhen’s gaze and nodded.
"Got it."
With that said, he used the Bursting Fire Steps to stand next to her and began dealing with all the incoming Glacial soldiers with determination in his eyes.
