Chapter 921: Discussing Zen?
Lin Feng’s car quickly returned to the highway.
He sped up along the way.
Finally, the giant archway of the high-altitude city appeared in his line of sight.
The grand archway of the high-altitude city had two levels and three arches, vibrant and dazzling, with magnificent architecture.
Even before getting close, a robust atmosphere greeted him.
Speaking of the high-altitude city, although it’s just an obscure small town in Sichuan Province, its altitude is over 500 meters higher than this holy city. Today, Litang is one of the highest cities in the world.
For the people back then, besides the snow-capped mountains, it was the most remote and exalted secret realm.
And he had some inexplicable ties with this place.
The last poem passed down by the Sixth Living Buddha here: "Oh white-feathered crane, lend me your wings. I won’t fly far, just to Litang and back."
At the end of his life, the Sixth Living Buddha chose such a place, mysterious to people at the time, to express his desire for freedom and redemption.
Since then, Litang, the high-altitude city inhabited by Tibetan people in Sichuan Province, has formed an unbreakable bond with this place.
Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi looked at the incredibly magnificent archway before them, feeling deeply shocked.
Lin Feng slowly slowed the car down, and the two of them appreciated the scenery along the way, admiring the picturesque mountains, blue skies, white clouds, lush grasslands, and yaks roaming everywhere.
The most pristine scenes unfolded before their eyes.
If not seen with one’s own eyes, it would be hard for people to imagine that such a picturesque place still exists in the world.
They stopped the car and savored everything before them.
Looking at this beautiful landscape made them realize that in one’s life, it’s truly necessary to travel around to experience the overlooked beauty of the world.
After getting back in the car, they continued on their way, crossing this mountain would lead to the boundary of the area, with one mountain separating two different worlds.
The final destination of their journey was the Tashilhunpo Monastery beyond this mountain.
Tashilhunpo Monastery, the residence of the contemporary Living Buddha, covers an area of 150,000 square meters.
It is surrounded by palace walls that meander along the mountain’s contours, stretching over 3,000 meters in length.
Inside the monastery are 57 halls for scriptures and 3,600 rooms, the entire monastery built along the slope, backed by a mountain, facing northeast, with halls arranged in sequence, balanced in density, harmonious and symmetrical.
The architecture is remarkably exquisite, with the exterior hall open to visitors, and Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi planned to experience the mystery of Buddhism here, while also lighting incense as a gesture of respect.
Although neither of them believed in Buddhism, the custom in the Huaxia Country of worshipping in temples and burning incense in monasteries seemed to be universal among people.
Perhaps this is also a form of tribute to the past and a wish for the future for the people of the Huaxia Country.
It was already past two in the afternoon, with vehicles passing on the asphalt road along with some ascetic monks in tattered robes, faces weathered, but eyes extraordinarily clear.
There were also some ordinary pilgrims on their way to Tashilhunpo Monastery, prostrating every few steps.
Although it was already afternoon and the sun’s rays were not as scorching as at noon, the asphalt road remained blisteringly hot.
The pilgrims moved forward with their heads bowed in reverence every few steps, and this spirit of faith was admirable.
At this moment, Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi felt a surge of reverence in their hearts, regardless of their beliefs, at least this spirit of persistence was worthy of learning.
With amazement, they found themselves unknowingly reaching the foot of Tashilhunpo Monastery.
After parking the car, they took their water and rations and began hiking up the mountain.
Regardless of one’s faith, hiking up the mountain was a form of respect for the monastery.
On the mountain path, besides Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi, there were other travelers and some pilgrims.
Everyone carried a sense of reverence in their hearts as they headed toward the mountain monastery.
Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi strolled and stopped along the way.
Besides admiring the beautiful mountain scenery, it was mostly because Zhang Yuxi couldn’t keep up physically and needed to rest.
By four in the afternoon, Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi finally reached the grand entrance of Tashilhunpo Monastery at the mountain’s summit.
The large Tibetan characters for Tashilhunpo Monastery on the gate exuded an aged grandeur, instantly conveying a sense of history.
The current scale of Tashilhunpo Monastery has been developed and expanded through the efforts of countless generations.
After a moment of awe, the two of them entered the monastery with sincere hearts.
As Lin Feng stepped through the monastery gate at that moment.
In the inner courtyard of Tashilhunpo Monastery, inside the main hall where the contemporary Living Buddha Qongbu was chanting scriptures, the prayer wheel in his hand suddenly paused.
He slowly opened his eyes, which had been tightly shut.
He gently placed the prayer wheel aside, clasped his hands together, and softly chanted.
"Infinite Life Buddha..."
"What a great opportunity, that such a person truly exists in the world..."
"Buddha is merciful, Amitabha."
Then he spoke to the young monk beside him.
"Zanbu, come forward."
The young monk serving nearby stepped forward, hands clasped, and said.
"Infinite Life Buddha~"
"What instructions does the Master have?"
"Infinite Life Buddha~"
"A distinguished guest has arrived at the monastery. Please bring the guest to the inner courtyard. I wish to discuss Zen with them."
The contemporary Living Buddha calmly said.
"How to identify the distinguished guest? Please instruct me, Master!"
Asked the young monk.
"The distinguished guest comes from the East, they are two people traveling together, just eighteen years old, bearing an aura of purple coming from the east."
The Living Buddha looked towards the east and spoke slowly.
"Yes, Master."
Replied the young monk respectfully.
Then he got up and left the main hall.
The Living Buddha gently picked up the prayer wheel beside him and resumed chanting.
Meanwhile, Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi, in the outer courtyard of the main hall, had just respectfully completed their incense offering.
Then they began to explore the monastery, observing its Tibetan-style architecture with unique exotic elements, creating a distinctive style of Buddhism here.
Although different from Buddhism in other places, ultimately, they all worshiped the Buddha.
The two strolled around, admiring the courtyard’s architecture, the entire monastery filled with a rich scent of incense.
At that moment, the monastery wasn’t crowded, mostly filled with mountaineering pilgrims and a few small groups of travelers.
The people were all cautious not to speak loudly, afraid of disturbing the Buddha.
Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi were conversing in low tones.
Just then, a young monk approached them.
When he reached Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi, he stopped and spoke slowly.
"Benefactor, the Living Buddha invites you..."
Living Buddha??
Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi looked puzzled after hearing this.
"Uh, young monk, are you sure you’re not mistaken?"
Lin Feng asked in confusion.
"Infinite Life Buddha..." 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"Benefactor, this young monk is not mistaken, the Living Buddha sent me to invite you to the inner courtyard for a Zen discussion."
The young monk seriously looked at Lin Feng and said.
The young monk was certain, the Living Buddha described the distinguished guest as coming from the East, accompanied by another person, just eighteen, with an aura of purple coming from the east.
Lin Feng had that aura, and the other conditions matched, there was no doubt it was him.
Lin Feng was bewildered, was the Living Buddha seeking a Zen discussion with him or with Zhang Yuxi?
But neither he nor Zhang Yuxi believed in Buddhism.
Discuss Zen...
Isn’t this a matter totally unrelated to him?
He was filled with doubts.
And Zhang Yuxi felt the same at that moment.
