Shin and Yoruichi arrived at the Central Soul Reaper Academy, and Shin immediately went to report in with his appointment letter.
The Head Captain of the academy was the old man Yamamoto—it had always been him, and it seemed it always would be.
When the academy was first established, Yamamoto had personally taught classes, which was why the first generation of students, like Kyōraku Shunsui, became his pupils.
Now, of course, Yamamoto no longer taught. It wasn't that he didn't want to, but he simply didn't have the time.
"Are you also joining as a teacher, Captain Yoruichi?" the instructor handling Shin's paperwork couldn't help but ask.
"No, I'm just here to assist him," Yoruichi said, glancing at Shin.
"Heh, I'll be damned. You, offering to help? The sun must have risen in the west," Shin chuckled.
"You want to get punched?"
Yoruichi asked menacingly, raising her fist as if ready to strike. The look was genuinely intimidating.
"No, thanks. I'm not interested in a taste of your fist. Besides, I'm here to teach, so don't distract me."
With that, Shin walked off. He was now a Kido instructor at the Central Soul Reaper Academy.
'Maybe I should apply to be a teacher here too?' Yoruichi considered. If she had wanted to, Yamamoto would have certainly agreed.
But after a moment's thought, she dismissed the idea. Coming here to teach occasionally was one thing, but a daily commitment? She had no interest in that.

Shin entered the classroom he was assigned to. It wasn't just any ordinary class—compared to other Soul Reaper trainees, these students were all considered geniuses.
This was the so-called elite class. The graduates from here would be the top prospects that every squad fought over.
At this moment, the students in the classroom looked at the entering Shin and Yoruichi with confusion.
"Hello, I'm your new teacher, and I'll be in charge of your Kido instruction. As for her—you can just ignore her."
Shin glanced at Yoruichi as he spoke. Hearing him tell them to ignore her, Yoruichi shot him an annoyed glare.
But since she was just here to watch the show, she didn't say anything and simply found an empty seat.
"Wow, the new teacher is so handsome."
"Totally. I wonder if he has a girlfriend."
"Isn't that Captain Shin? Why is he a teacher now?"
Some students recognized Shin, and a buzz of discussion filled the room. Shin was quite well-known in the Seireitei—most people recognized him. His good looks alone were enough to make him famous.
"I can't believe Captain Shin is teaching us," Kuchiki Rukia said, her eyes filled with admiration.
Rukia was now a member of the Kuchiki Clan. She had been born in the 78th District of the South Rukongai, Inuzuri, and was the younger sister of Kuchiki Hisana.
Hisana, forced by poverty, had abandoned Rukia. She later met and married Kuchiki Byakuya and desperately wanted to find Rukia to atone, but she never succeeded.
Worn down by her search, she eventually fell ill and passed away. Byakuya later found Rukia and brought her into the Kuchiki Clan, making her his adopted sister.
"Tch, what's so great about him?" Abarai Renji muttered, a hint of jealousy in his voice as he saw Rukia's adoring expression.
"What do you know? Even Captain Kuchiki has received guidance from Captain Shin," Rukia retorted, shooting Renji a dissatisfied look.
At this point, Rukia still referred to Byakuya as "Captain Kuchiki," a sign of the distance between them. It was understandable, as she had only recently joined the clan. Forcing her to call him "brother" so soon was something she clearly wasn't ready for.
Shin's gaze swept over the class, a smile on his face. He hadn't expected his class to be filled with so many future celebrities.
Rukia could be considered the female protagonist of the Soul Reaper world, Renji was a major character, and there were a few other familiar faces.
"I can be quite strict in my teaching. If you have any complaints, feel free to leave this class," Shin announced.
After he spoke, the students quieted down, though many of the female students' eyes were still sparkling as they stared at him...
"Damn it. Now I see why he wanted to teach. He's got ulterior motives," Yoruichi muttered unhappily.
At that moment, Shin was unaware that he had been labeled as having ulterior motives, and by Yoruichi no less.
"Follow me outside."
Shin walked out, leaving the students confused. Weren't they going to have a theory lesson?
Shin had no intention of teaching theory. A year of theory wouldn't get them anywhere. He was taking them straight to practical Kido training.
Yes, Shin was that direct.
The students, however, were thrilled. They had long grown tired of the theoretical knowledge.
Shin led them to a dedicated Kido training area and began his instruction. But soon, he found himself facing a frustrating and helpless situation.
He wanted to teach them some low-level Kido, but they looked at him with blank faces, unable to learn.
"You're trying to teach them Hado in the thirties right off the bat? How are they supposed to learn that? Even if they could, they wouldn't be able to cast it," Yoruichi couldn't help but remind him from the side.
In Shin's eyes, Hado and Bakudo in the thirties were low-level Kido. But that was his perspective. For these students, the most they could manage was Hado #1: Shō.
"You, show me the Kido you've learned." Shin randomly picked a few students and had them demonstrate.
Among them were Abarai Renji and Kuchiki Rukia, as their grades were the best.
Hado #1: Shō!
After Renji used the spell, he looked at Shin with a hint of pride, completely missing the "are you an idiot?" look Shin was giving him. 'You use a number one Hado and you're proud of it? Don't tell me being able to cast a number one Hado has gone to your head. If so, you're pathetic.'
"Impressive. That ought to tickle a Hollow," Shin said with a smile.
Renji's expression froze. The power of his Kido was indeed weak. It had only managed to make a small dent in a wooden post, not even piercing it. Calling it a tickle was probably a compliment.
Shin then looked at the others. In the end, he found that everyone, including Rukia, was unqualified—at least by his standards.
