The phone rang about ten times before Sophie Smith finally picked it up at the last moment.

"Damn, Sophie, you heartless thing, taking so long to answer the phone. Are you with President Land doing that thing again?" Eva Miller said irritably.

"What...?" Sophie sighed softly, walked into the kitchen with the phone, and poured a glass of water. "He’s drunk and resting in the room now."

"You capitalist bunch!" Eva couldn’t help but complain, "Clearly, you guys are all about indulgence and excess, both in lust and alcohol."

Sophie listened to Eva’s lengthy complaints as she carried the water upstairs.

"But seriously, why did you call me?" From Eva’s tone, it seemed like there was something off.

"My parents are forcing me to get married."

"Hmm?"

"My parents are forcing me to marry Luke Land."

"What?" Sophie almost choked on her water. "With the second brother? How did that happen?"

As far as she knew, Father and Mother Miller rarely stayed in Eastern City. When did they meet Luke Land?

The main issue was, how did they even think to make Eva marry Luke Land?

"It’s a long story. My parents found out I’m pregnant, and you have no idea. My dad is super old-fashioned. It’s like if I had a child with someone, I must marry that person... That’s not the main point. The main thing is now my parents think the person I was with, the father of the child, is Luke Land."

So, that’s how Sophie could understand why Father and Mother Miller wanted Eva to marry Luke Land.

"Isn’t there some misunderstanding? You should just have the second brother clear this up with your parents. The child isn’t his after all."

"But he’s just being unreasonable. Not only does he admit the child is his, but he’s also coaxed my parents. Now they’re really satisfied with him and insist I marry him."

"Then, why not just marry him?" Sophie suggested tentatively. She actually thought Luke Land was quite nice. At least, he truly cared for Eva. Besides, he was Asher Land’s brother, and if he dared to bully Eva in the future, Asher could stand up for them.

"Are you crazy?" Eva got a bit angry hearing Sophie say that. "Sophie, are you siding with Luke Land?"

Of course, she is. Luke Land is Asher Land’s brother, and Sophie was siding with the Land family.

"Don’t get mad. I’m not taking sides... I’m just being fair. Eva, what’s so bad about the second brother? I see he takes such good care of you, is considerate, and even if the child isn’t his, he’s willing to take responsibility. Such a good man is hard to find, isn’t it?" Sophie pleaded earnestly. She knew if Oliver Johnson didn’t want the child, no one could force him. Was Eva supposed to have the child and raise it alone?

Being a single mom isn’t easy.

Eva lay on the bed feeling listless, not knowing what to do. She didn’t deny that Asher Land was genuinely good to her, but marrying Luke Land was also not easy for her since there was no love between them, right?
