Chapter 166: The Intervention

7 Eastbourne RD.

Marco looked at the blonde psychologist sitting on the sofa, "So, Sam and you..." he started, wearing a goofy smile on his face. He waited optimistically for his best friend to ’spill the beans.’, to tell him that he and Sam are officially dating, not like the act they presented to the media. But actually genuinely dating.

"..are dating." the bearded man finished, but Levi answered at the same time and said,

"Yes, having sex."

The two exchanged surprised looks all of a sudden.

What? Marco wondered if he heard correctly.

While Levi frowned, of course, that would be the initial assumption causing him to sigh. He knew if it were the case, Marco would be the first to congratulate them; he was, after all, their number one ’shipper.’ But unfortunately, that wasn’t the case, yet.

"Pardon?" the bearded man asked, furrowing his brows confused.

Levi looked straight to his eyes, "Yes, sex." he answered, then casually took a sip of his earl grey tea. Of course, he wanted more, but he’s still currently working on that. However, he’d have to admit, as he looked back to the past months together with the redhead. Their current situation wasn’t bad; however, it wasn’t good-good either. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Ages ago, he would have considered himself someone who didn’t give a damn about labels like most people wanted. He’d dated a couple of women in his life; one of them was for an experiment, the other... Well, puberty. And not once did he have a strong desire to define it. But being in his current situation, he realized that if labels helped ascertain that she was his, and his alone. He bloody wants one.

And with the current issues with her family, who knows until when she will stay with him—seeing as he was well aware that the Fredricksen’s had been scheming behind her back in an attempt to set her up with some rich imbecile. Something Anna had graciously informed to spite him, of course.

"Yeah, mate. I got that, of course you two are...." he trailed, getting embarrassed. "But you are properly dating, yeah?" he continued, wanting to clarify. "No, were just having sex. Call it a symbiotic relationship at the moment." the Irishman proceeded to explain, causing the bearded man to frown. hHs initial assumption was ’dating.’ clearly, the two wouldn’t just have sex, wouldn’t they? They aren’t that stupid, after all.

Or are they?

His eyes remained on the blond, waiting for him to tell him he was kidding, but he remained quiet. And it dawned on Marco, Of course, they are THAT stupid, and his blood suddenly boiled.

"SEX!" He shouted, causing Levi to jump on his seat at how loud his voice was, spilling some of his tea in his hand. He glared at Marco as he wiped his pants with a handkerchief from his breast pocket.

"How many times am I gonna say it?" the Irishman spat, annoyed that he stained his pants. "Marco, it’s a complicated story. No need to involve yourself in this; I have a plan," he said sternly. And based on the bearded man’s reaction to the situation, he and Sam were not wrong in keeping it secret. He can be such a drama queen when it came to what was morally acceptable—always going on and on about social graces, formal courtesy, and good behavior. Pfft, the Irishman thought.

"How long had this been going on?" Marco clenched his jaw, angry. Levi loosened his tie and unbuttoned his dress shirt’s top three buttons.

"4 months, 12days." the blond graciously provided the facts, causing Marco to gasp when he did the math. "What? That long! Blimey, this was after that Ball!" he spat.

"Uh, technically, during," the blond corrected, placing his feet on top of the center table to make himself comfortable.

Marco scowled, looking back at the months before eyes widening, and his jaw dropped when the realization hit him. "Those condoms! Oh god! Now it makes perfect sense!" he spat, recalling Levi’s odd behavior months back, including the bizarre questions asked.

"Actually, we stopped with the condoms after she tested me. Sam’s using the pills now. I pref---" Levi shared lightly, interrupted seconds later by Marco shouting, "SHUT UP! OH GOD! Shut up, Levi! I don’t want to know!"

Marco huffed at the Irishman’s TMI as he paced back and forth, covering his ears. Levi rolled his eyes; he was acting like a child.

Marco turned back to the psychologist with a stern look on his face, "But whatever this is, it should stop!" Marco added firmly, like a dad lecturing his son for being a complete moron.

Levi looked at him like he just kicked a puppy. "Errr..." he started to argue, lost at Marco’s irrational demand. He didn’t see why they should stop; he wasn’t far from closing the deal with the redhead in his observation. The way she kissed him that morning told him there was definitely more than there was initially. He was so close, and not only that, but boredom was pretty much nonexistent. And the benefits--if Marco would just let him list it down and look at the situation from a rational perspective, he would take it positively. Like, how much exercise he was having and the fact that he hadn’t had the urge to smoke since it started.

"No! This should stop! This is not what friends do!? They don’t use or exploit each other for personal gains! This has to stop tonight!" Marco stated, pulling his phone from his pocket and dialing Sam’s number, he wanted to speak with her ASAP, but he was forwarded to voicemail.

Levi watched Marco, rolling his eyes, well aware that the redhead had more pressing matter at that very moment.

"You’re wasting your time; she won’t answer. She’s on a date." Levi explained, finishing his cup of tea and placing it back on the table.

"A date. Where?" Marco asked with his jaw clenched. Of all this, the GP honestly blames Sam. She was supposed to be the reasonable one, the one that understood human behavior--the one that usually picked right. He did not expect her to be in that complicated position with his best friend. His best friend, who can be undeniably stupid in these kinds of situations. Who also has no respect for morals, niceties, and even decency.

"I know, but I’d rather not tell you. No." Levi said simply, bending over to pick up his deck of cards under the table and started shuffling it.

Marco shot him a look, one that caused the blond to freeze at the intensity. "I’ll call Elle, and I’m telling you this...whatever this is, it stops tonight! You either date or you don’t!" he said, walking out while dialing the PA’s number.

...

Half an hour later.

Lisa held onto the car’s grab handle for dear life as her husband drove too fast for her liking. On the other hand, she was worried that he just might get an aneurysm with how red his face was as he drove. "I can’t believe they are that stupid, Lisa. I just can’t get my head around it." Marco vented, taking a sharp turn to the right. It was 9:43 PM, and she was glad that she had the sitter that night. They were supposed to have dinner after his case, something she was looking forward to, she even wore the new dress she bought a couple of weeks ago, but he was too furious to notice.

She huffed; instead of having a relaxing time in some posh restaurant, there she was, sitting in the passenger seat of her furious husband, listening to why he was so upset. She didn’t know the whole story, but she did get a general idea.

And it was Sex.

....

Restaurant, Parliament

Sam sat in the restaurant, legs crossed under the posh round table as she shared a candlelight dinner with the blond seated across her. Both of them were dressed to the nines.

"GOBSHITE!!!" Levi’s voice echoed from her purse on the table, and the man raised an amused brow at her as they ate the Second course of dinner. "Sorry." she apologized, turning her phone off and ignoring the text, then taking another spoonful of soup in her mouth.

"I don’t mind." He replied generously while the two ate dinner at a posh restaurant in Parliament.

"Pardon me." a familiar voice spoke from behind the redhead a few minutes after. She shifted to look, and as she initially thought, it was Marco Evans. Behind him stood his blond wife Lisa with an apologetic smile on her face. Sam’s brow rose in intrigue, "Marco, Lisa, what are you doing here? Is everything okay?" she asked, suddenly concerned if anything terrible happened to their favorite Irishman.

While Ivan remained quiet in his seat, observing like Lisa did him. She knew him, recognized him. He was a very dangerous man, she had looked into a few cases that mentioned him, but no case ever reached the jury’s eyes. As if each one that involved him either disappeared or was paid off.

"No. I need to speak with you." Marco stated, as calmly as his body could manage. Subconsciously he sent the blond man seated across Sam a glare. He was good looking, older but good looking nevertheless, and he felt bad for Levi--and he felt angrier than he already was at the redhead. She was having sex with his best mate while she dated other men. Dating that she claimed she didn’t do.

It was too much.
