Chapter 260: The Shattered Sky

Cali joined Aegon, still having a smile on her face. She swung her arm around his shoulder and watched the battles, occasionally shooting glances at the towering shadow standing beside Aegon.

Aegon simply stared at the distant clouds, all while the annihilation beam of the Titan continued to target Roland, who tried his best to either dodge or defend against it.

He failed every time.

Aegon was sure the Titan could do more than just shoot thick beams capable of annihilating whole armies. Surely, Liliana didn’t limit such a creation to only that. He had come to know her enough to guess that.

He took a bit long to answer Cali, which prompted her to knock on his head as she said, "Why are you so serious? What happened here?"

"You’re asking now? After joining the battle?" Aegon asked, amused.

"I mean, yes? Why wouldn’t I join the battle first? Who cares why you’re fighting?" Cali shrugged. "Your enemies mean my enemies, not to mention even my mentor joined this time."

Aegon chuckled. This was the kind of friends he made in this world. It didn’t matter what the cause was or who the enemy was, as long as he was fighting someone, they would join him without questions. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

The questioning could be done later.

"Let’s just say we’re fighting a bunch of assholes," Xiu answered her. "They’re Senior’s former family members."

"The Songsword Family?" Cali raised an eyebrow. "Are they nuts?"

"Probably."

One by one, the mercenaries continued to fall while the world around them shattered through shockwaves, annihilation beams, or straight-up drops of thick lightning bolts destroying big chunks of earth and creating craters.

In contrast, Aegon felt calm and actually happy seeing the absolute demolition of his enemies. They had questioned Xiu’s capabilities as a parent and that angered even him, so he was glad to see their current state.

Aside from these battles, one more took place not far from them. A battle between three elderlies and a tall shadow that was swift as light and powerful enough to crush them all alone.

Songsword had three Rank 7s in total, being Marvin, Reinar, and Isabella. Out of the three elderlies, one was Isabella, a Seven-Star Mage, while the other two were Six-Star and Five-Star.

A lineup similar to what Liliana was facing. And the one to face this was the leader of Red Viel, the War Empress Hecte.

Unfortunately, Aegon couldn’t see any of it. Even before engaging the enemies, Hecte erected a dome of shadows, big enough to cover a small town, and trapped herself along with her enemies inside it.

Aegon had no clue what was happening in the eerie silence of those shadows.

’Did she bring them into her shadow realm? Or maybe bring the shadow realm to them?’

Remembering the feeling the shadow realm gave him confidence, Aegon felt assured.

’She’ll win.’

He was sure of it.

"I want to fight too," Cali whined beside him.

"Then join them," Aegon said.

"There’s no one to fight," Cali sighed. "I was thinking of picking one of the old women, but didn’t dare to ask your shadow. What’s her name again?"

"Hecte!"

"Yes, Hecte. She’s scary," Cali shuddered. "She gives me the creeps."

"Funny how you don’t want to fight someone," Aegon remarked. It was quite unusual to see a battle maniac like her running away from fights.

"I like straight battles. With her, it feels like she’ll just destroy my whole mind and I’ll become a dead shadow to follow her," Cali said in a low voice.

"Don’t worry. She just seems that way, otherwise she’s pretty gentle. If you had asked, she would happily give one to you," Aegon said.

Though, he wondered how bizarre this moment was. The world seemed to come undone around them, yet they were so chill that they were arguing about picking opponents.

’Strength gives you true freedom.’

"Nah! I’m fine. I actually boosted everyone so it’s taking a toll on me," Cali waved her hand and rested her head on his shoulder.

Her ability to boost wasn’t permanent. It was like painting a colour on something; as long as her Mana reserves were good, the paint would still be on that object.

In a similar way, her Boost duration depended on a few factors like the stacking, the power of the person she boosted, her mana, and of course, her capability to withstand it.

Boosting people like Xiu, Liliana, Hecte, and the whole Red Viel must be a pain to deal with.

Just as Aegon was about to reply, a massive change occurred on the distant battlefield that took his breath away. It made his eyes go wide, his golden pupils reflecting pure purple.

Out there, the clouds split apart and scattered away in an instant by some mysterious force, revealing the beautiful Twilight sky. For a moment, the spectacle held on against some powerful force.

Then, it broke apart.

It was as if the sky itself shattered. Cracks formed everywhere in the colourful sky, signalling something ominous.

When the cracks grew wider, the sky shattered completely and a thick purple pillar crackling with lightning dropped from the shattered sky, covering a wide area as it descended on the land below.

In the next second, a powerful shockwave assaulted everyone on the battlefield, uprooting deep-rooted trees into the air while the grass was completely pulverised.

The air crackled with electrical charge affecting everyone in the vicinity. The Rune Formations surrounding the mansion flickered for a moment before returning to normal.

The Titan held its ground easily, like a giant mountain that refused to move even against the worst wind currents. The same went for the dome of shadows that showed no reaction to the changes.

Aegon staggered back, as Miguel hurriedly shielded him and Cali from the shockwave with his giant body.

For a moment, Aegon’s mind was completely blank as he replayed the scene in his mind. But he wasn’t given the time to compose himself as another oddity happened in the following moment.

Hundreds of monocles appeared all around him. All gleaming with intense mana. In synchronisation, all the monocles blinked, a familiar, creepy smile streching wider on them.
