365 Days of Rejected Proposal: CEO's Rebellious Pet-Chapter 162: Their Mutual Secret Crush
Zinnia’s mind was a whirlwind, and she scrambled to find a tissue.
Jenson’s handsome face darkened, and he picked up the water cup on the table and threw it towards the door.
"Get out!"
At the door of the ward, Winston didn’t quite react in time before the thrown water cup hit his forehead heavily.
"Disturbance!"
Winston covered his forehead and immediately closed the door.
He touched the small bump on his temple and broke into a cold sweat.
Clicking his tongue, just for a glimpse of Zinnia’s slender waist.
It wasn’t even as much as she’d shown on stage, and it’s not like he hadn’t seen it before.
Third Brother is way too irritable!
In the ward, Zinnia was awkwardly trying to stop Jenson’s nosebleed, flustered and annoyed.
"I told you to stop messing around! This ward is jinxed for us!"
Jenson agreed with a nod, "It’s not convenient. Let’s get discharged tomorrow."
Zinnia frowned, "How could that be? We should wait until you’re healed. I’ll go check on Winston; why did Third Brother throw something at him..."
Zinnia had just turned around when Jenson grabbed her wrist. He used great force, startling Zinnia.
She turned to look at him, "What’s wrong?"
Jenson realized his loss of control and eased his grip slightly, frowning, "I think I might have stretched the wound again; it’s a bit painful."
Zinnia was immediately drawn in, giving him her full attention.
She helped Jenson lie back and wrung out a towel to dab at the sweat on his forehead, completely forgetting about Winston outside the door.
Jenson’s thin lips curled up slightly, and he weakly said, "I’m not in the mood to see him. Let Winston go back."
Zinnia had no doubts and nodded.
"Winston talks a lot! He definitely can’t be allowed to disturb your rest. I’ll go tell him to leave."
She was about to turn, but Jenson stopped her, "Stay with me. I’ll call him."
Zinnia was puzzled. The person was just outside the door; why add the trouble of making a call?
Winston, receiving the call, was also full of confusion.
"Third Brother? I’m at the door; should I come in or...?"
"There’s no need for you to come in. Your sister-in-law and I need to rest. You should go back."
Winston, "..."
At once, he recalled the scene upon opening the door earlier and understood.
Winston’s expression became exceptionally fascinating.
Never thought Third Brother would be so beastly.
A hospital ward play!
He had interrupted it, yet it still wasn’t over!
How thrilling could that be!
Winston clicked his tongue in secret, thinking of making a jest, but Jenson’s cool voice came again.
"I let you choose the site to build the country’s largest racing base. You went out once and already picked a location?"
About a month ago, Winston had gotten a beating for hiding the matter with Kane Donovan from Jenson.
But the next day, Jenson called Winston to Stellar and was actually willing to invest three billion of his personal funds to help Winston establish a racing base.
This was always Winston’s dream, a big prize falling from the sky.
Naturally, Winston agreed immediately and started running across the country to choose a site.
"Haven’t made a final decision yet..." Winston thought Jenson was concerned about the racing project and quickly replied.
Jenson interrupted him, "If you haven’t done it right, hurry up and continue working. If you don’t have a feasible plan within half a month, I won’t invest in this project."
Winston panicked upon hearing this, "No, Third Brother. There are a few places I haven’t inspected in person yet. I’ll book a plane ticket immediately and fly today."
No time to catch his breath, indeed Veridia’s most successful capitalist!
Jenson heard what he wanted to hear and immediately hung up.
Zinnia took the phone and put it aside casually.
"No wonder Winston disappeared as soon as he returned to the country. Third Brother wants to build the country’s largest racing base for him. Winston must be thrilled."
Jenson’s gaze fixed on her. The woman had a bright smile on her face.
That smile was inexplicably dazzling.
Jenson’s eyes darkened, "You’re happy for him?"
"Of course, it’s Winston’s only pursuit, after all."
Zinnia chuckled lightly, her brows dancing with joy.
She was genuinely happy for Winston, not only because they got along well but also because she, like Winston, had a dreamer’s heart.
Watching a good friend achieve his dream was also a joyous thing.
Zinnia picked up the water basin, humming a song unconsciously as she went to the bathroom.
She was completely oblivious to the man on the hospital bed, whose face had turned as cold as ice.
Jenson withdrew his gaze from the woman’s joyous silhouette and closed his eyes.
However, memories resurfaced before his eyes.
Since Zinnia arrived at the Forrest Family, she had been understanding and well-behaved, but she was different with Winston.
As a child, she refused to address Winston as Fifth Brother.
She even secretly fought with Winston and often argued with him, as if they were a pair of destined frenemies.
In front of Winston, she was lively, as someone her age should be, unlike her overly obedient demeanor in front of him.
The first time the little girl got drunk was together with Winston, and afterward, she even called out to him in her sleep.
The first night she didn’t return home was when Winston took her to the seaside to watch the stars.
At Zinnia’s university graduation ceremony, despite being severely injured abroad at the time, he hurried over.
In the campus, Winston lifted her wearing her gown, sat Zinnia on one of his shoulders, and stubbornly refused to let her down.
She tugged at Winston’s hair in fright, annoyed.
"I like you, alright! Winston, you’re so boring!"
But Winston held onto her legs and spun them around.
In the sunshine beneath the camphor trees were Winston’s hearty laughter and her laughter-filled screams.
And...
The diary laden with a young girl’s musings, tucked in his office drawer.
Ironically, he wasn’t her protagonist.
But every page, he remembered tormentingly.
Jenson unconsciously clenched his fists. If not for that chaotic night with her four years ago...
Perhaps they would have been together long ago.
"Third Brother, are you asleep?"
Zinnia’s voice suddenly rang out, and Jenson snapped his eyes open.
For a moment, Zinnia thought the man’s eyes were bloodshot as if suppressing surging emotions.
But in the blink of an eye, his expression returned to normal.
"What’s the matter?"
Zinnia had been thinking in the bathroom about Winston’s racing base and naturally about her own study abroad plans.
She realized she hadn’t discussed it with Jenson yet and felt a bit impatient.
"About my study abroad plans, I don’t want to give up. Lise will be busy with a world tour and won’t be able to teach, so after Coco is born, I’ll start classes. I want to go abroad next year..."
Jenson slightly furrowed his brows, "Coco is too young and needs her mother’s care. We can reconsider studying abroad in a few years." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
If she went abroad, it would inevitably mean they see even less of each other.
Last time, he missed the most crucial period of her youthful affection while they were apart, which allowed Winston to make his way into her heart.
This time, their marriage had just started to change, and with a baby on the way, Jenson didn’t want unforeseen changes.
He knew she loved dancing, and there were opportunities domestically too. As long as she wanted, he could help her with any dance company.
After three or four years, their relationship stabilized, and their child was older. If she still wanted to study abroad, it was not out of the question.
She’s only twenty-two; her dance career is still ahead of her, Jenson thought there was no need to rush.
She’d just had a baby; her body needed recovery.
But Zinnia was stunned, wondering how she could wait for a few more years.
A few more years, and then what? More years again?
Jenson could fully support Crystal, support Winston, but with her, it was always a firm denial.
Was she just meant to be his sheltered pet in his eyes?
Or was the child ultimately the most important?
Did her career and dreams, her happiness, not matter?
But she no longer wanted to live as a compliment, not the pitied little one of the Forrest Family in Veridia in everyone’s eyes.
She must have her own stage.
"Third Brother, are you asleep?"
Zinnia’s voice suddenly broke the silence, and Jenson opened his eyes abruptly.
For a moment, Jenson’s face seemed flushed, as if suppressing some emotion.
"What is it?"
"It’s about my study abroad plan," Zinnia started nervously, eager to speak.
"I don’t want to give up on it. Just as Lise will be busy with Coco’s birth and won’t be teaching over the next year, I want to take that time to study."
But Jenson frowned slightly, "Coco is too young, and she needs more care. It’s not the right time to leave the country yet."
He knew her love for dancing, and there were opportunities for it here in the country, too—it wasn’t like growth was impossible.
