70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 332: Going Back to the Old Home
Looking at the apple in his sister’s hand, little Xu Mingfeng’s attention had long been captivated, and he wanted to reach out to take the apple from his sister’s hand.
However, Xu Mumu didn’t give it to him. The apple was quite big, and the little guy didn’t have much strength. What if it fell to the ground?
"Little brother, do you want to eat the apple? We can go back, and I’ll cut it for you," Xu Mumu asked with a smile, looking at her little brother. The little guy already had teeth and could easily nibble on it himself.
Seeing the little guy’s eagerness, Xu Mumu directly took him back home with Minglei. After all, they were just upstairs.
Downstairs, Director Wu was still mediating the conflict between the two families, and his voice was quite loud. Xu Mumu could hear it clearly from upstairs. Madam Chen and others were on the balcony, watching the commotion.
Xu Mumu peeled and sliced the apple and then had Minglei take it over to Madam Chen and the others, a small piece for each person.
"Where did the apple come from?" Xu Minghui asked with a grin, stuffing the whole piece of apple into his mouth.
"Mom brought it home; her colleague gave it to her," Xu Minglei replied, savoring small bites. Fresh apples were much tastier than canned fruits. He needed to eat it bit by bit, unlike his brother, who finished it in a few bites, leaving none behind.
Xu Mumu ate a piece too; it was pretty sweet, though not the crunchy type of apple. It was a bit sandy, but the little guy enjoyed it thoroughly.
Xu Mumu raised her hand to pinch the little guy’s cheek, wondering when he would call her sister. She was really looking forward to it.
The door was closed, and the little guy couldn’t go out. Xu Mumu also went to the balcony to watch the fun. The people from both families had calmed down. Director Wu was adept at mediating, giving both sides a fair deal, then discussing compensation, which wasn’t fully covered anyway—just over twenty yuan.
This twenty-something yuan felt like they were gouging flesh from the Xiang Family, particularly unwilling to give it. If Director Wu hadn’t mediated, they wouldn’t have wanted to give it at all.
On the Bai Family’s side, Director Wu also advised them not to divorce, considering they still had a son together.
This farce was temporarily resolved this way. Xu Mumu watched calmly, knowing it was only a superficial fix, not addressing the root cause. But there wasn’t much else to be done, and it didn’t concern her family’s business, so she didn’t say much.
After Director Wu and Li Caixia left together, she didn’t come back either.
The family didn’t mind; Li Caixia was still working.
Once Li Caixia left, Xu Mumu and the others wrapped it up and stopped watching from the balcony, as the excitement had dispersed. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"When will you receive your report card?" Xu Mumu’s gaze fell on Xu Minglei. The little guy had just finished two days of exams, and she wondered when Experimental Middle School would release the scores. She also wanted to know how her brother had performed in the provincial capital over the past six months.
"Still five days to go," Xu Minglei replied calmly. A week after exams, the report card would be given. He was quite eager, unsure how well he did, but he thought he performed well, as he generally knew how to solve the questions.
"It’s quite boring at home during the holidays. If we were back home, we could go play on the mountain," Xu Mumu said, comfortably leaning on the sofa.
"Sis, do you want to go back home to play?" Xu Minglei looked at Xu Mumu with sparkling eyes. He actually wished to go back too; Tiedan and his other friends were still at home.
"I do. How about we go back and stay for a while in a few days?" Xu Mumu said to the little guy.
"Sure, sure," Xu Minglei responded with some excitement.
"I also want to go back and see how the house is doing. No one’s lived there for so long," Madam Chen started reminiscing about home. Though she lived comfortably in the provincial capital, her roots were back home.
"Let’s go back once Minglei gets his report card and stay for two months. After all, many of our belongings are still at Second Uncle and Fourth Uncle’s houses," Xu Mumu said with a cheerful smile.
"That’s right; then we’ll go back for two months," Old Xu immediately agreed. He missed home too. Usually, he didn’t bring it up as his son and daughter-in-law were busy with work. They couldn’t afford to be a burden.
"You all can go back, but I won’t. I have a friend whose dad works at a textile mill in the provincial capital, so I’ll do some temporary work there," Xu Minghui said as he stretched, talking to the others. Ah, earning money was not easy.
"Brother found a job again?" Xu Minglei said with some envy. He too wanted to grow up quickly, like his elder siblings, to earn money on his own. The little savings he had weren’t enough and he was reluctant to spend them.
"Yes, so you need to make more friends," Xu Minghui said with a grin.
That evening, as Xu Hai and his wife returned, Xu Mumu was the first to talk to them about going back home.
"All of you are going back?" Li Caixia was momentarily stunned.
"No, my brother is staying here. He found a temporary job on his own," Xu Mumu said calmly.
"That’s okay then. You can also take Fengfeng back to play for two months," Li Caixia didn’t mind. The kids were growing up, except for Fengfeng, and with Xu Mumu and several relatives back home to take care of them, there was no need for her to worry.
With Xu Minghui staying, she could still learn things from her son. After all, her son was a college student.
As for the youngest son, she didn’t need to worry much. Living with the grandparents at home had many advantages, and after work, she barely had to fret about family matters.
Xu Minglei found staying at home boring, mainly because he didn’t have many friends around. So he brought over his second-year junior high school textbooks, intending to have his sister teach him.
Seeing that he genuinely wanted to learn, Xu Mumu began teaching him. Starting from the second year of junior high, they were going to be introduced to physics. But she didn’t start with that, since there were a few young kids at home. She decided to teach them together once they returned home. For now, math and Chinese were enough, and English, she let Xu Minglei study on his own.
There was a cassette player at home. The little guy’s vocabulary and pronunciation were pretty good. Compared to the students in school, Xu Minglei was already ahead of many.
The little guy was studying diligently, which satisfied Xu Mumu a lot. Her brother was growing up.
However, Fengfeng was a bit troublesome, occasionally interrupting his brother’s study sessions and accidentally damaging one of Xu Mumu’s books.
Xu Mumu gave the little guy a light pat on the bottom, and the young one started wailing sorrowfully, as if not knowing what had happened, crying as if deeply wronged.
Madam Chen watched helplessly. This little rascal!
"Fengfeng, come on, Grandma will take you out to play, okay?" To prevent the little grandson from disturbing Xu Minglei’s study, Madam Chen decided to take him out to play.
