A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 74: The Fickle Scummy Woman
Vivian Quincy was exhausted and didn’t want to go on. She wearily rested her head on the pillow, gazing out the window with a heavy, conflicted heart. Finally, unable to sleep, she got up and grabbed her phone. She sent a message to a high school classmate: "Sunny, I heard you work at a hotel. Could you possibly look up a guest’s information for me?"
Sunny Sutton replied almost immediately: "Look up information? That’s illegal. Why are you suddenly asking about this?"
Vivian Quincy’s spirits sank. Her elegant fingers tapped out a line of text: "It’s nothing, just wanted to ask. Thanks anyway. You should get some sleep."
"Okay." After that single-word reply from Sunny Sutton, there was silence.
Vivian Quincy lay in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, her thoughts a tangled mess. She turned on her side and quietly drifted off to sleep.
After two straight days of intense work, Vivian Quincy couldn’t bring herself to wake up the next day. Her whole body ached, and even the slightest movement was painful.
The doorbell rang, but she had no idea who it could be.
Vivian Quincy didn’t move until her phone rang. Realizing it was Anna, she went to open the door.
"Mommy." Anna had brought Beanie with her on her way to work. She passed by Vivian Quincy’s place and decided to stop in with him to see her.
Seeing Beanie, Vivian Quincy finally cheered up a little. She gently cupped his small face and gave him a kiss. "What are you doing out and about?"
Anna said, "I was worried my parents wouldn’t be able to look after him properly, so I’m planning to take Beanie to the office with me."
"How can you do that? Does your company allow it?" Vivian Quincy asked, surprised.
Anna said, "My boss is a childhood friend. The most he’ll do is grumble a bit. It’s fine, we’re really tight."
"That’s right, Mommy. I’ve even met Mr. Thornton. He looks like a good person—a wealthy, noble, and refined man," Beanie said with a serious expression.
Vivian Quincy chuckled at the little guy. "Since when can you read faces?"
"I know a little." Beanie held up his little finger, then noticed the gauze wrapped around Vivian Quincy’s hand. He carefully cradled her hand. "Mommy, how did you get hurt?"
"This... It’s nothing," Vivian Quincy said, shaking her head with a smile.
Anna glanced worriedly at Vivian Quincy’s hand. "Is it any better? Your palm was covered in blood yesterday. They’re not going to make you do that kind of rough work again today, are they?"
"Anna, don’t talk about this in front of the child. It’s not rough work, just my normal job," Vivian Quincy whispered, reminding Anna for fear of worrying Beanie.
Anna, being blunt, had no intention of covering for that scumbag Jasper Ford. "How is it not rough work? And to think the Ford Family is the top family in Crestfall. The CEO of the great Imperium Group, bullying you like this! He’s so shameless."
"It was Mr. Ford who hurt Mommy." A coldness that didn’t belong to his age flickered across Beanie’s innocent face.
Anna said, "It’s not just him. That Wanda Quincy is awful too. She actually showed up at my door in the middle of the night to threaten me. If she hadn’t brought so many people, I would have torn that white lotus’s face to shreds."
At this, Anna turned to Vivian Quincy. "We really need to find Beanie’s father soon. Any news on your end?"
"I can’t. I don’t have the authority to check." Vivian Quincy didn’t have the right to access hotel guest registration data, nor did she have the connections to investigate.
As a friend of ten years, Anna couldn’t bear to see Vivian Quincy suffer like this. She said, "Give me all the details. I’ll find someone to help you look into it."
The St. Declan Hotel, Room 797, six years ago.
Zachary Thornton tapped his desk silently after receiving the information, a faint, playful smile on his lips. "Anna, I can look into this for you, but you forgot about my fee."
"Deduct whatever it costs from my salary, just don’t go overboard." Anna was quite generous in this regard. Spending a little money for Vivian Quincy’s happiness was nothing to her. What are best friends for?
But Zachary Thornton, sitting in his office, suddenly stood up, walked over to Anna, and slipped an arm around her waist, pulling her into his embrace.
"This fee can’t be paid with money. I don’t need money," his voice suddenly deepened.
Anna tilted her head and glanced at the unruly hand on her waist. "Why are you hugging me? If you have something to say, say it. Keep your hands to yourself."
"You want my help but won’t let me touch you?" Zachary Thornton gave her waist a possessive squeeze. ’She’s got some meat on her bones. Feels incredible.’ The more he squeezed, the more he liked it. ’It would probably feel even better without clothes getting in the way.’
Greed and a strong sense of possessiveness filled the man’s eyes.
Anna stared at him in confusion, her eyes wide.
She hadn’t done anything, but this was the woman he had loved for over twenty years. A single glance was enough to make Zachary Thornton completely lose himself. He couldn’t help but lower his head, wanting to capture the girl’s rosy lips—a place he had longed for...
Seeing him get closer and closer, about to kiss her, Anna didn’t hesitate. SLAP! She smacked Zachary Thornton across the face. "Snap out of it."
The man recoiled in pain, his ears ringing from the blow. All of his earlier leisurely mood vanished as he glared at Anna. "Can’t you just be a good girl and wait quietly for me to kiss you?"
"Are you crazy? I’m talking business with you. Can you find the information or not?" Anna scolded unhappily, muttering under her breath as she spoke.
Zachary Thornton turned his face away. "No kiss, no answer."
"Didn’t we kiss all the time when we were kids? If you can find it, then hurry up. If you can’t, I’ll find someone else," Anna asked, dead serious.
Zachary Thornton suddenly felt a headache coming on. ’This woman is missing a screw. How can the little pecks from when we played house as kids compare to a real kiss now?’ He was angry and refused to speak.
Seeing she was getting nowhere, Anna stood on her tiptoes and pecked him on his thin lips, pulling away in an instant.
The man froze completely, a flicker of shock passing through his eyes.
After kissing Zachary Thornton, Anna unceremoniously wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. "That should do it, right? Get to it. I’ll come back tonight to check on your progress. I’m going back to work now."
With that, Anna closed the office door.
Zachary Thornton stood frozen in place for a full ten minutes before snapping out of his shock. Thinking of that brat’s heartless expression made his blood boil. He even had the absurd feeling that he had been taken advantage of, and that Anna was the one who’d loved him and left him!
’Who just kisses someone and runs away!’
Zachary Thornton was furious, but he still started investigating using the information Anna had given him.
Unsurprisingly, The St. Declan Hotel was a property under Jasper Ford’s name. Room 797 was the most luxurious presidential suite in the hotel, and it hadn’t been open to the public for years.
A room that wasn’t open to the public either had a problem or had been permanently booked by someone.
Zachary Thornton made a call to Jasper Ford. "Why can’t Room 797 at your hotel be booked?" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"What is it?" The man’s cold and noble voice came through the phone.
Zachary Thornton said, "Just curious."
"What are you investigating?" The perceptive Jasper Ford sensed something was off.
Zachary Thornton laughed. "What are you thinking? Why would I be investigating you out of the blue? I just stayed in that room before and found it comfortable. A friend came to visit recently and wanted to book it, but it wasn’t available, so I thought I’d ask you. Is the room closed off?"
Jasper Ford: "No."
Zachary Thornton asked curiously, "Who’s staying in it?"
