A Hospital in Another World?-Chapter 612: Master Mage, Please Accept Me!
Chapter 612: Master Mage, Please Accept Me!
Garrett Nordmark floated midair, almost losing control of his flight spell upon hearing the plea. He clenched and shook his fist, itching to hurl a fireball in response—
Of course, that was out of the question. Not only was the fireball spell an area-of-effect magic unsuitable for random casting, but he wouldn’t take a life over a single remark. Despite, despite...
Damn! How he wanted to beat that man up!
Stay calm, he reminded himself. The level of enlightenment here was not high.
Even in his previous life, 20 years into the 21st century, people still asked online, "My wife was delivered by a male doctor, and I feel uncomfortable, what should I do?" freewёbnoνel-com
Garrett took a deep breath in and out, controlling his flight straight forward. He cast an amplification spell on himself and shouted from above:
"What nonsense are you spouting!"
The man cowered, his face turning pale as he looked up at Garrett and immediately knelt down. He dared not lift his head, pressing his forehead into the mud, his words slurred:
"Forgive me, Master Mage... I didn’t mean to slander you..."
His voice grew quieter, muttering unclearly. After a few more words, seeing no response from Garrett, he stood up, slapping himself repeatedly:
"For spouting nonsense! For spouting nonsense! For..."
Garrett remained silent, and the man didn’t dare to stand or stop slapping himself. This was a classic case of bullying the weak but fearing the strong.
Meanwhile, people from the hospital rushed out. Bernard, leading the charge with two security guards, grabbed some bystanders and interrogated them, then roared in anger:
"Boss! Just say the word, and I’ll kill him for you!"
"No! Don’t!"
A woman in labor screamed. She was half-lying on a cart, clutching a swaddle, her eyes filled with fear. She looked from Garrett to her husband and buried her face in the swaddle, curling up tightly.
Garrett quietly observed from above, his heart empty, devoid of anger, disgust, or pity. He could have beaten the man, but what then?
Would the husband not take his anger out on the woman?
Would he not berate, beat her, or at the very least, neglect and not care for her?
A woman just three days postpartum, without care, could die!
He sighed deeply, looked around, and motioned for Bernard to follow. They slowly walked back toward the hospital, the sound of the cart’s wheels barely audible behind them.
Everyone’s mood was subdued. Garrett walked with his head down, silent, dragging his feet. Bernard and the two guards followed, grumbling non-stop:
"What kind of people are these! Cowards! Beasts! Ungrateful! Not even dogs would bother with such scum!—saving his wife, delivering his child, and this is the thanks we get! Boss, let’s not treat such people next time!"
Garrett shook his head, unwilling to speak. He trudged to the entrance of the maternity ward and took a deep breath before wiping his face:
"Let’s not think about this anymore. Bernard, I’ll go back to work. You handle the outside."
"Alright, boss!"
Bernard saluted and turned to leave with the guards. He had just lifted his foot when his whole body suddenly stiffened:
"!!!"
He stood still, listening intently. Suddenly, his body tensed like a bow, and he dashed out:
"Follow! Save people!!!"
The two barbarian guards didn’t ask questions and immediately followed. They ran, accelerated, reached the hospital wall, and leaped over, leaving Garrett alone in front of the building, confused:
"..."
What’s going on?
I really don’t want to cast flight again! The magical power would be better used for surgeries!
He looked left and right, then cast an amplification spell on himself and whistled long:
"Appa! Come here!"
In the wilderness beyond the yard, a distant neigh responded. The sound of hooves clattered as the Silver Moon Deer galloped forward, stopping before the steps. Garrett grabbed its antlers to climb onto its back, patting its neck gently:
"Appa! Let’s check outside the wall, see what’s happening!"
The Silver Moon Deer snorted in acknowledgment, then turned, backed up, aimed at the wall, and took a running start...
"Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!"
Effortlessly, it leapt over. Only Garrett, leaning back, nearly fell off the deer’s back, barely avoiding disaster by clinging to the vines tied around the antlers.
After the startling leap, Garrett regained his senses, finding himself outside the hospital wall. The Silver Moon Deer carried him forward following the sounds,
and soon, the woman and her husband reappeared before him:
And this time, the situation looked far worse than when he had left.
The woman’s face was bruised blue and purple, her hair a mess, her right eye swollen nearly shut. Her body was covered in dirt, as if she had been rolling on the ground, with only the swaddle remaining clean, obviously well-protected by the mother.
Nearby, a barbarian guard held the man by his arms, his toes barely touching the ground. In front of the barbarian, the man didn’t dare to curse again but glared viciously at the woman. Each glare made her involuntarily shrink back, curling up even tighter.
"Did you hit her?"
Garrett signaled the barbarian to release the man, asking softly. The man shivered, and seeing that Garrett didn’t intend to strike, quickly bowed deeply, chuckling nervously:
"Master Mage, what are you saying... How could this be considered hitting? She talked back, and I just slapped her a few times, just a few slaps..."
"How could you hit her when she just had a child?" Garrett frowned. The man laughed nervously and remained silent. The woman, who had been looking down, suddenly sobbed:
"I really didn’t..."
"It’s fine! What’s done is done!" the man shouted harshly, half a sentence out before he caught Garrett’s eye and immediately shut up. The woman suddenly raised her head:
"He just doesn’t believe me! He’s always said that Master Mage never touched me, and he’s never believed it! Since I married him, he’s always beaten me. Whenever something doesn’t go his way, he beats me, even when he’s drunk—what about the five silver coins? The work I’ve done since coming here is worth ten times that!"
"You—"
The man started to shout, but a barbarian warrior intervened, and he quickly fell silent. The woman, no longer holding back, picked up the swaddle and rushed forward, kneeling before Garrett:
"Master Mage, please employ me! Please hire me! I saw many women working in the clinic, washing clothes, bed sheets, carrying patients—I can do all of it! Please hire me! If you don’t, he’ll beat me to death!"
