Chapter 724: The Golden Dragon: "The Kid Who Tricked the Little Moon Princess? I Want to Meet Him!"

The news of the impending great famine quietly spread among the noble lords on the continent. In the Kent Kingdom, this secret could not be kept hidden. In fact, their sources of information were more formal and official:

The Queen had just given birth, and after presenting the heir to the public on the palace balcony, she retreated to the inner palace to meet with the nobles. As the congratulatory ceremony was two-thirds complete, the head of the Royal Mage Corps, Archmage Seymour, hurriedly entered, his expression solemn as he reported to the Queen:

"The legendary mage, Master Decar, Lord of Thunder, has arrived and wishes to see the Queen!"

The Queen’s expression turned serious. She handed the young prince to the maids and stood up. At the same time, her great-uncle, Count Merlio, the Thunder Sword Saint, quickly stepped forward to stand by her side.

The joyous atmosphere turned orderly as the nobles and spellcasters quickly returned to their places.

The leaders of the temples of the Spring Goddess, the Church of Nature, and the Temple of the God of War stepped forward quickly. Archmage Seymour stood directly beside the Queen, ready to introduce:

"A legendary mage from the council has arrived!"

Regardless of the customs of any country, a legendary mage could sit on equal footing with the monarch, sometimes even above them. After all, a monarch’s status came from their bloodline, whereas a legend’s power stemmed from their own abilities.

With the Queen, the royal warrior legend, nobles, and spellcasters present, this was as formal a meeting as it could get. Even for a legendary mage, the ceremony was sufficiently grand. Once everyone was in place, the Lord of Thunder strode in:

"Your Majesty," he was still dressed in his black three-piece suit with a single monocle, a blue light flickering on it, never resting. He bowed slightly, no more than five degrees, as a greeting:

"We have received very important news, just verified, and came immediately to inform you. Next year, the continent, the Kent Kingdom, and the New World will experience a great famine, and we need to prepare early."

"How severe is this famine?"

Facing the Lord of Thunder’s gaze, the Queen also lifted her skirt slightly and bowed back.

Even though she had already received the news beforehand and was just using this occasion to inform her ministers, Queen Anne’s heart still pounded:

"May I ask, from what source did the council obtain this information, and do you have any strong evidence?"

"Initially, it was the legendary mage, Lady Endorf, the Eye of the Stars, who was inspired while operating the magic array." The Lord of Thunder glanced at everyone present and answered straightforwardly:

"Then, several of us legends assisted her in fully activating the grand magic array and conducted the prophecy again. This time, the prophecy gave an unequivocal hint."

"But it is still just a prophecy." The Queen frowned slightly. Garrett’s caesarean section was performed well, and her postnatal recovery was good. Her postpartum weakness had recovered, adding to her majesty:

"Please understand, this is a serious matter. The kingdom’s future and the welfare of millions of subjects cannot be entrusted to a prophecy alone. If there is more compelling evidence, please inform us."

The Lord of Thunder nodded slightly. He had come from Nevis, not to argue about etiquette. Even the Queen’s inquiry was pre-arranged to convey the message to the nobles as effectively as possible:

"The prophecy from the Eye of the Stars was that the blood of the Goddess Paria stained the sky red, and Sandos wept endlessly. The entire sky was shrouded in red, never retreating all year. This prophecy means—"

He took a deep breath:

"A volcano will erupt violently, the smoke and clouds will obscure the sky, with lightning and thunderstorms in the clouds, and continuous rain. The smoke and clouds will flow high in the sky, and next year, they will block the sunlight, making the summer cold and preventing crops from growing."

A murmur of surprise rose from the crowd on both sides of the Queen. The Lord of Thunder didn’t glance at them and continued:

"We invited our dragon friends to find the volcano mentioned in the prophecy, and it has been confirmed. To speak about the situation of the volcano and its subsequent impact, please let him explain directly—oh, he’s already here..."

Count Merlio, the Thunder Sword Saint, suddenly looked up to the distant sky. After a moment, everyone present followed his gaze. Shortly after, a commotion erupted among the crowds gathered outside the palace: 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"A dragon!"

"A dragon!"

"A dragon—"

A massive golden dragon spread its wings, gliding down from the clouds. The capital’s usual cold weather was pierced as he burst through the clouds, as if a second sun had risen in the sky— 𝑅𝔞𐌽òʙÊȿ

And it was more dazzling, more magnificent, more blinding. Except for the Queen and a few high-ranking nobles who stood their ground, most nobles and all the spellcasters couldn’t help but run to the windows and look up:

Before their eyes, the brilliant golden light suddenly converged into a stream, shooting straight down. When they focused again, a golden-haired man stood beside the Lord of Thunder.

The man was tall and sturdy, a full half-head taller than the Lord of Thunder, with a body that could fit one and a half of him. His long golden hair fluttered behind him, fanning out like a lion’s mane:

"For your one word, I traveled twenty thousand miles back and forth!"

The golden-haired man opened with this. He glanced around, his gaze stopping briefly on the Thunder Sword Saint. He nodded casually as a greeting:

"Fortunately, the volcano was found. The eruption is indeed severe. I flew over forty miles high to break through the volcanic cloud. I’ve never seen such a large eruption, and only two elders in my clan have witnessed such a thing!"

"And what are the consequences of the eruption?" the Lord of Thunder asked calmly. The golden-haired man gave him a thumbs up:

"Your calculations were spot on. I asked the elders in my clan, and they said the year following the eruption was the coldest in five hundred years. Rivers froze in midsummer, plants withered, and animals died in large numbers..."

The Lord of Thunder exhaled deeply. He glanced at the crowd, seeing many nobles shocked and fearful. The Lord of Thunder’s hand slightly moved, revealing vast oceans and lands, with long winds and white clouds:

"Thank you for making the trip. Now, help us point out where exactly this volcano is."

The golden-haired man pointed casually. As his fingertip moved, the nobles’ eyes followed from the Kent Kingdom eastward. They crossed the Carolingian Kingdom, the Rhine Kingdom, the dark forests occupied by vampires, and the Alemanni Empire occupied by another branch of the Radiant Church...

"Is it farther than this?"

Someone whispered. The golden-haired man didn’t answer, his fingertip continuing east, crossing the Orc Kingdom. Then, moving twice as far, a small volcano erupted suddenly, with smoke and clouds rising straight to the sky.

The briefing on the volcanic eruption, cold weather, and famine concluded an hour later. Most nobles had solemn expressions, while the spellcasters, especially the mages, listened intently, gathering around the Lord of Thunder and the golden dragon, reluctant to leave.

The Lord of Thunder ignored them, slightly raised his head, and stepped into the sky. Surrounded by tiny electric arcs, he flew north shoulder to shoulder with the golden dragon.

In the clouds, their conversation floated down faintly:

"You didn’t lie to me? Was it really your little apprentice who calculated this? The one who tricked the little princess of the Glowing Clan? Come, let’s go together, let me see him properly!"

"What do you mean by ’tricked’? Explain yourself, what do you mean by ’tricked’?"
