A Luna for Alpha Kieran-Chapter 53: Bundle
Chapter 53: Bundle
"Healer Mango? We got what your asked for. But they said it must not be exposed to direct sunlight. Not even a single bit. Only then will it hold its accuracy level! We wrapped it in this cloth! Damn! It’s getting heavier by the minute!"
The nurses held something round, wrapped in a thick blanket like cover.
They barely got their words out before Mango grabbed it from them and sprinted past them, her boots slamming against the marble floor, echoing through the silent corridor of the Blackmoon pack house.
Her arms curled protectively around the bundle in her chest...her hands trembling ever so slightly.
Her hair clung to her forehead. Her breath came in sharp bursts.
"Where is he?" she gasped, skidding to a halt near the Beta’s office. There was no point going in because Dax had been missing for awhile. He was sent somewhere, taking care of a classified mission. He didn’t even attend his own Alpha’s wedding!
Nevertheless Mango yanked the door open. Empty, as expected.
She turned, eyes wide, wild. "Where is the Alpha?! Where are you, Kieran?!"
A Gamma on duty blinked at her, startled. "He is probably not in the pack...he left few hours ago. I think...not sure..."
"You think?!" she snapped at him for no fault of his. "You are not sure, huh?!" The Gamma stared at her baffled. He opened his mouth to say something... but she did not wait for the answer.
She was already gone, running again, clutching the bundle like it was the last piece of her soul.
"Alpha Kieran!" she screamed down the east wing. "KIERAN!"
She skidded around a corner, nearly colliding with a passing Gamma.
"Kieran!" she gasped, grabbing the warrior’s arm. "Where is he? Where is the Alpha?"
The guy blinked, taken aback. "I...I don’t know. He hasn’t been seen since last night. It was his wedding after all...we did not have a formal reporting time today..."
Mango’s grip tightened. "That’s not good enough. Where did he go?I must find him. "
"I swear, I don’t..."
She shoved past him without another word, her pulse hammering.
Another warrior patrol stepped into her path near the training grounds, startled. "Healer Mango, how can I help?"
"Have you seen Kieran?" she demanded going straight to the time. There was no time for dilly dallying. "I need him right now! It’s damn urgent!"
The patrol hesitated. "He was at the armory. Maybe. I am not sure if he really was though!"
"Maybe? Not sure? Are you guys even working under him or just day dreaming through, huh!Useless!!!All useless fools! " Mango’s voice cracked, halfway between rage and despair. "How does nobody know where the Alpha is?!"
Another wolf approached from the opposite hallway sensing there was an urgency, panting. "Try the west wing please! Someone said he was meeting with the council..."
"No!" another Gamma cut in, rushing over. "He cancelled that meeting! I thought he went to the border patrols!"
By this time there was a small crowd of gammas gathered around, wondering what was going on. Mango was shaking now. "Then someone find him! If any of you actually know what’s going on in this pack, JUST FIND HIM."
She doubled over, gripping her knees. For a moment, her face twisted in pain.
The bundle in her arms slipped only a little but she held it tighter.
"You!" she barked, pointing at the farthest one. "Have you seen Kieran?"
The warrior frowned. "Yes.I saw him leave. He left before dawn."
"And you decided to stay mum till now?"The guy’s face dropped.
Mango yelled. "You said left...left where?" freeweɓnovel~cѳm
He shrugged. "Didn’t say. Just took a horse and rode out."
Her nails dug into the cloth in her arms. No, no, no.Taking a horse implied he wasn’t close. Darn it!
"Did he say when he would be back?"
"Didn’t say a damn thing," another guard muttered walking in. "Just looked like he was in a mood.We even laughed and joked. We thought he had a great wedding night! "
A younger warrior stepped forward, eyes falling on the cloth. He only saw a gap, the size a fraction of a millimeter. His eyes widened as his lips moved."Is that...?"
Before he could say anything further, Mango grabbed him and pulled him away from the crowd. Her eyes pinned him, fierce... scary!
"Don’t," Mango warned in a low voice, the tremor in her words unmistakable. "Don’t ask questions you don’t have rights to. You saw nothing. You hear me? If a single word gets out,I know whose head I am supposed to take."
The guys gulped. Mango shook him slightly. "UNDERSTOOD?" He could only nod in agreement.
A Delta stepped out of the Gamma office behind them, holding a radio. "Healer Mango,we have been on it. Still no word. His wolf hasn’t answered the pack link. Can’t get him through the radio either."
"Then I will find him myself," Mango spat. She pushed past them, her body trembling with exhaustion and adrenaline. The load she carried was getting too heavy.
It was only natural. That was how those things were designed. They were inconvenient, true. But they were rarely used. Their accuracy was unmatched till date. So it was worth the temporary pain.
Mango’s voice cracked again at the end, softer this time.
She stumbled into the open courtyard, eyes scanning the tree line.
"Kieran, please... where the hell are you? You don’t want to regret this later... " Then she turned over shoulder, back at the crowd of the curious soldiers that she left behind. "Send someone to the southern border! And the East cliff!" she barked. "Tell them it’s Healer Mango."
A few wolves actually started moving then. At last.
"Healer Mango, we are moving immediately. But tell us please. What’s wrong?" someone called, but she didn’t stop.
Her legs were already moving again. Her heart was thundering.
She didn’t have time. Not anymore.
She held the bundle tighter. Her voice choked with urgency as she whispered to it, "Hang on... we are going to find him. I promise you, we are going to find him..." As if talking to a toddler.
