Chapter 36: Steal a crystal

Chuck’s nervous activities spiked up the moment he focused his eyesight on the system screen, reading its contents thoroughly. Based on the prompt he saw, the system was giving him an option to absorb the beast crystal, adding its energy to his.

Ever since Chuck forcefully absorbed the energies of the three students that tried to kill him, the thoughts of trying to absorb another person’s energy had been lurking in his mind. He tried to suppress it, but it seemed impossible. But the system message made him realize that there was another way to acquire energy, it was a hard, but a morally easier method.

When a beast dies, its internal energy converges to a single point within its body, condensing with power, thereby forming a crystal. The crystal gets harvested to make magical weapons, energy shields, and various modern technological equipment used in the current world. If the beast crystal was merely the total energy that a beast possessed, then it was possible for Chuck to use the forced absorption technique on it, absorbing the energy completely.

Chuck stared at the screen with various theories raging about in his mind. There were only ten beast crystals available at the moment, with only ten dead beasts. If Chuck stole one of the crystals, the group would find it suspicious, and he didn’t want the twins having knowledge of his powers .

"Well I can just tell them that it got stolen or something, or I saw another group of beasts and it made me ditch the dead beasts, leaving their crystals in the process," Chuck thought.

He clicked on the *YES* icon, allowing the strange system to do its magic. Almost immediately, he felt something raw seeping into his being. Still holding onto the crystal, he could see the bright yellow essence of the crystal flowing out. The energy seemed to be undergoing a process of spaghettification, flowing out in a straight path, with the energy hovering about in the air.

He saw the crystal itself get dimmer as more energy flowed out, until it became absolutely clear, void of any energy. The yellow energy reflected perfectly on Chuck’s eyes as it hovered about, swirling around in a circular pattern, almost like an accretion disk. Another system prompt popped up shifting Chuck’s gaze slightly.

[ Does the user wish to accept the additional energy, converting it to Harelm energy, and adding it to their pool? ]

[ Does the user wish to reject the energy, locking it and accumulating it to unlock the infernal guide? ]

[ Accept <> Reject ]

Chuck clicked on Reject, still wanting to accumulate the energy in order to unlock the "Harelm guide."

The user has successfully locked the energy for the Harelm guide ]

[ <> When the required amount of energy points has been reached, the user will get the option to unlock it ]

[ Locked energy: 30/200 ]

"So a regular beast’s energy is more than two student’s energies combined? Then how the fuck are we able to kill them?"

Chuck stared at the energy, noticing that the circular swirling motion seemed to be slowing down. In the next instant, the energy disappeared out of sight, seemingly vanishing into thin air with no trace of its essence.

"Maybe it’s in the system. That only makes sense as it’s added to my locked energy pool."

If this was the result Chuck got from absorbing one regular beast crystal, he couldn’t help but wonder how many points he would receive if he absorbed the crystal from an evolved beast. But he quickly disregarded that thought as he noticed that he could no longer feel any form of heat from the sun. The atmospheric condition was now replaced by a cold chilling gust of wind that swayed, altering the movement of Chuck’s hair.

Chuck quickly placed the empty crystal inside his side pouch, not wanting to dump it, avoiding the risk of someone finding it. He also didn’t want to destroy it ’cause he felt like studying it for future events. He swiftly activated the infernal craft, forming another dagger, carving out the rest of the beasts.

After several minutes of hard work and puking, he got the nine crystals. They glowed in unison, making his surroundings seem less darker. He placed the crystals away, turning around, locking gaze with an unmoving human body.

"Now how do I get rid of the body?"

Underneath the darkness, with the only source of illumination being the cracked moon in the skies, two figures stood in an opposing position, standing in silence as they locked eyes fiercely with one another. One of them was dressed in a Japanese styled outfit with a katana by his side as he stood still, his bald head reflecting the moon light perfectly.

He broke the silence as he spoke with authority.

"I can see your minions were far too incompetent to get the job done," the man spoke, his brows furrowed with anger.

"It’s not possible. They’re strong and talented mages, something must have happened," a younger male replied in disgust.

"Yes and what happened was the fact that maybe Chuck Nectar actually managed to defeat them, just like he defeated you!" The man shouted, waves of visible energy spilled out of his body, distorting the space around him.

The younger male felt a bit of discomfort as ripples of energy hit him. He grunted weakly, trying to stay balanced as the energy passed through his being.

"Will you fucking calm yourself, you dammed bald ninja!" The young man said, clearly furious, "if you can’t be patient, then go fuck yourself."

The bald man signed in defeat with an expression of disappointment on his face, "it looks like I’m going to have to get the job done myself."

He raised his hand, directing it at the student. A low hum of energy could be heard as the bald headed man’s arms began glowing intensively with a blue essence. Shooting out of his palms was a form of pure and condensed lightning bolt that traveled forward with an unimaginable speed, heading directly towards the student.

The student didn’t have the time to react, as the glowing bolt of lightning hit his chest, piercing through him and emerging from his back. The bolt of lightning travelled forward into the distance until it was out of sight. The student looked down at his chest to see the gaping hole that had been made, torrents of blood spilled out like a fountain, tainting the paved flooring. The student collapsed, dying instantly.

The man stared down at the body, looking at the bloody mess he created as he spoke.

"Good bye, Bobby."
