A Mate For The Last Lycan-Chapter 60: STAY AWAY FROM HIM
Chapter 60: STAY AWAY FROM HIM
When she arrived at Khaos' palace, Zuri didn't see him, but there was an elderly woman waiting for her in the living room.
"Who is Mabel?" Zuri asked Gayle when a warrior approached her the moment she got down from the carriage and informed her there was a woman named Mabel waiting to see her.
"Mabel? She shouldn't be here, what is she doing here?" Gayle looked confused, but from the expression on his face, Zuri could tell that the woman's visit was anything but ordinary.
"Who is she?"
Gayle and the warrior then talked through mindlink, to prevent Zuri from listening to their conversation and then the warrior left.
"Who is she?" Zuri demanded again because her question was left unanswered.
"You don't need to see her, come, I will take you somewhere else," Gayle said, as he opened the carriage door and was about to usher her inside, only a woman's voice stopped him.
"Where will you take her, Gayle?" she asked, her voice was deep and stern.
Zuri turned around to see a woman in her mid fifties staring at her with her brown eyes filled with distrust. Her red hair framed her face and she was walking toward them. The way she carried herself exuded confidence, as if she owned this place.
Zuri didn't remember if there was a royal family member named Mabel, or probably it was a distant royal relative that she had never heard of.
But then, why would she want to talk to her?
"Mabel, you shouldn't be here. The Alpha will not be happy to know that you are here." Gayle furrowed his brows, showing his dissatisfaction.
"Why not? Now I couldn't even come and visit him?"
"If you want to visit the Alpha, you can wait inside, I have asked one of the warriors to inform him of your arrival. The Alpha will be here shortly." Gayle became even more uncomfortable when she stepped outside of the building and exposed herself.
Zuri noticed that the guards became restless, they looked around them, as if to make sure no outsider would see this woman.
"Oh, you complained to him already, huh?"
"I did not complain, but the Alpha will be enraged to see you here. You are being reckless, Mabel."
At this point, Mabel was already standing in front of Zuri, she observed her from head to toe, which made her uncomfortable, but she couldn't be the only one to feel that way because Zuri mimicked her and did the same to her.
This woman was only slightly taller than Zuri. Her red hair was tied into a simple bun. She was wearing traveling clothes, which meant she came from far away. Dust was still visible on her shoulders.
But, for some reason, this woman was not friendly at all toward Zuri, as if she was seeing her as a threat, which was very confusing, since Zuri was sure this was the first time they met with each other.
"You must be Zuri, right? Or should I call you Luna Zuri?" Mabel completely ignored Gayle's protest.
"You can call me Zuri," Zuri said lightly. She wanted to know who this woman was and what she wanted from her.
"Lovely." She clapped her hands together, as if she was happy, but it didn't reach her eyes. Zuri recognized that gaze, in fact, she was quite familiar with it. This woman didn't like her. "Can we talk inside?"
Zuri thought about it for a while, but then she smiled. "Sure."
Gayle tried to speak again, but Mabel shut him down and took Zuri's hand to guide her inside the building, but she swatted her hand out of instinct.
"I don't like being touched," Zuri said sweetly and then walked ahead of her. She didn't know who she was, but if she was determined to dislike her without any reason, she would give her a reason to do just that.
This was not her first time dealing with this kind of a situation.
Mabel was not happy when Zuri swatted her hand and because she walked ahead of her, it looked like she followed her instead, thus she hastened her steps and caught up to her.
Both of them chose the living room that had a huge window showing a clear view of the garden.
"I am sure you don't know me," Mabel started the conversation after both of them settled down with tea between them. Gayle had been long kicked out of the room.
Only the two of them were here right now.
"Yes, I have never seen you before. May I know, which pack do you come from?"
Mabel was silent for a while, but then she dropped a piece of information that Zuri didn't expect at all. "I am Caiden's mother. I am sure you know Khaos' gamma, right?"
It didn't go unnoticed by Zuri that Mabel didn't address Khaos by his title, which indicated that she was close to him too and her suspicion was proven when Mabel started a whole story about how she used to be Khaos' wet nurse.
"I lost my firstborn, who was the same age as Khaos, which is why I see him as my own son."
"I think it's outrageous to think of Alpha Khaos as your own son. Not only is he an alpha, but also a royal family member," Zuri pointed out. Not because she was trying to find fault with her, but... "If someone else heard this, you can get into trouble, Mabel," she said calmly.
Mabel's face turned ashen when she heard that.
"Now..." Zuri lamented as she set down her teacup and focused her attention fully on Mabel. "What do you want to talk about with me? I think you are not here to tell me an old story."
Silence stretched between them for a moment as the tension started to become
uncomfortable.
"I know what happened. I want you to stay away from Khaos. You don't know what you are
dealing with."
"Why should I stay away from him when I betrayed two packs just to be with him?" Zuri asked freeweɓnovel.cѳm
brazenly.
