Chapter 62: A KISS ON THE FOREHEAD

"Are you going to stare at me until the sunrise?" Khaos eased up, as he teased her as usual and sat down on the edge of the bed. "Are you that obsessed with me?"

Zuri rolled over and then rested her head on his lap instead. She took his hand and pressed it on her own head, silently asking him to pat it. "I think so." She closed her eyes and savored his touch. She liked it whenever he patted her head.

And Khaos could see that. "Your need to be loved overrides your common sense, Zuri."

"You said it perfectly," she said honestly. "I only want to be with you. I want this union. I don't know what secrets you have, but I will carry them with you."

Khaos chuckled and instead of patting her head, he started to braid her hair, which surprised Zuri. She opened her eyes and watched him do her long hair. "You know how to braid?"

"Hm." Khaos smiled, enjoying the fascination in her eyes.

"How many women have their hair braided by you?"

"Why? Jealous?" Khaos raised his brows, as he finished the braid and tore his sleeve to secure

it.

"Yes, I am going to shave their heads."

Khaos laughed when he heard that, but Zuri didn't. She was really considering doing that. But then, she snapped out of her intrusive thoughts and peeked at Khaos through her long lashes, afraid that he would think she was crazy.

But, he looked as usual. He was running his thumb against her jawline now.

"I need a favor from you." Khaos leaned his back against the bed poster with Zuri resting her head on his lap. It felt natural when he ran his fingers over her skin.

"What is it?" Zuri asked, looking eager to help, which drew a small smile to his lips. This was probably one of the reasons why he was interested in her.

She was not a subject of his. She was nothing like Caiden, Bryden, Gayle or any other warriors under his command. She could deny his request and he knew she would do it if she didn't want to do it, but the eagerness in her eyes was something that he had never felt before. It felt genuine and refreshing.

"There is this thing called the Verity Stamp. This is a golden stamp from the Lycan dynasty. The stamp disappeared thirty years ago when the lycan empire crumbled. Some rumors say the stamp has been traded on the black market."

Zuri furrowed her brows. "Do you want me to track it down?"

"Can you do that?"

"Why do you want this golden stamp?"

"Can you do that?" Khaos emphasized the question and Zuri sat up to look him in the eyes.

"I don't know what secrets you have, but I know that you have more than a few." Zuri straddled him and he put his arms around her waist to secure her.

"Everyone has their own little secrets." He winked at her, indicating that she too had things that she didn't tell him.

And he was right, but he didn't pursue that matter and Zuri continued to make her point.

"I mean, if you wanted to take the throne... I will help you any way I can." Zuri touched his face and he allowed her to do so. "I have met a lot of people and someone like you shouldn't be just an advisor. You are meant for more than that."

Even though her father kept her behind the scenes in every transaction and dealt directly with the merchants, he always shared everything he knew with her. He was the one who taught her in the hardest way possible how to read people. How to see their intention.

There was a time when her father acted like a father too, but obviously, he was not like that most of the time.

Khaos didn't respond to her statement, instead he spoke about something else differently. "I want to kiss you," he said. He slid his hands to the sides of her body, but didn't touch her inappropriately. "Can I kiss you?"

Zuri was stunned for a moment. No one had ever asked for permission to do something to her body. They just did it, they just took whatever they wanted from her. They never checked with her first.

And here, Khaos was waiting for her answer, as he kept his hands still, refraining from groping her.

He didn't need to ask her since he already knew how much Zuri wanted him and that he could do whatever he pleased with her, as she had already proven it to him where her loyalty lay.

Yet, he asked for permission. It was a small and simple thing, but it made Zuri tear up and this left Khaos stunned.

"I thought you liked me?" He raised his brows in disbelief to see Zuri crying before helping to wipe away her tears. "May I remind you that you have kissed me twice without even asking first."

"You didn't need to ask for permission," Zuri said between her sobs and Khaos looked at her incredulously.

"You are crying because I asked for permission? I thought you had finally realized what kind of trouble you got yourself into by associating with me."

"I don't even know what kind of dangerous plans you have in mind," Zuri retorted.

Khaos then laughed. "This is really ridiculous." He ran his fingers through his hair and pushed her down, so her back was flat on the bed. Her legs instinctively wrapped around his waist. "I will take that as a 'yes'."

He cupped her face and started to kiss her. It was not a passionate kiss, it was not demanding or filled with lust. It was an innocent kiss, something that Zuri didn't expect she would get from him.

She thought it would be the same as what she got when she was with Xaden, but it was completely different.

And when Zuri thought things would get heated up, Khaos pulled away from her. He kissed

her forehead.
