A Mate For The Last Lycan-Chapter 66: CHESS GAME
Chapter 66: CHESS GAME
Currently, Khaos and Zuri were lying in bed, in Zuri's bedroom. The alpha went straight to her room, instead of his when he heard she skipped her dinner, and they ended up having this discussion.
"Two thousand warriors are not enough to launch an attack, especially when the River Creek Pack is one of the main packs in this kingdom, but it's enough to make it look very serious," Khaos explained.
"Silas will be a horrible alpha," Zuri grimaced. "Rhett is better."
"We are not looking for someone better, but someone who can be controlled."
Zuri thought about that for a while and realized what he meant, she grimaced. "I don't like politics. It's messy and manipulative."
Khaos chuckled. "If you knew how to play your cards well, it would be just as interesting as how you handle business."
"How so? In business, it's cut and dry, but politics..." Zuri made a face that Khaos found adorable. "It will never be a done deal."
"Do you know how to play chess?"
"No."
"Come, I will teach you."
Zuri blinked her eyes in confusion. She thought they would do something tonight, since Khaos visited her bedroom again, but what were they going to do? Play chess? In the middle of the night?
Khaos asked someone to bring a chess board and also supper for both of them. It didn't go unnoticed by him that Zuri had gotten thinner. He assumed it was because the death of her parents and her mate had affected her more than she wanted to admit.
"What is the relation between chess and politics?" Zuri couldn't believe it, but she really wanted to do something else rather than playing chess with Khaos. She wondered why he didn't want to touch her. Did he feel disgusted by her? But, he cuddled her and came to her bedroom.
"Both require strategy."
However, despite Zuri's initial thoughts, she immersed herself in the game once she got a hang of it. She was very competitive and she just realized it now. That was probably why she often got what she wanted in trading.
"Can't you give in to me once?" Zuri complained, feeling her frustration mount as Khaos defeated her relentlessly time and again. She felt upset.
With Khaos, Zuri felt free to express herself. She felt safe being upset or even angry with him, asking questions and sometimes offending him when her erratic emotions got the best of her.
"What kind of satisfaction do you wish to feel from a false victory?" Khaos smirked. "Try harder and eat your food."
Initially, Zuri refused to eat, saying that she was not hungry and even had the audacity to say that she was too fat and needed to restrict her food intake. Khaos could only raise his brows at that silly excuse.
But, he managed to trick her. With each pawn that he managed to take from her, she had to eat a piece of meat.
And now, with Zuri being defeated for the fourth time, her plate was clean.
"Just like in chess, in life, you can't undo a move, but you can always make the next one better."
"I am done!" Zuri exclaimed, frustration boiling over as she considered flipping the table. She was annoyed that she couldn't win against him.
"I am the one who taught you how to play chess just two hours ago. Don't you think it will hurt my ego if I get defeated by you?"
Well, that made sense, Zuri was simply upset.
Khaos then stood up from his chair and patted her head. She had eaten her food, there was no need to continue playing.
"Goodnight, Zuri."
And with that, Khaos left the room. Little did he know that the moment he left, Zuri ran to the bathroom to throw up. She shoved her fingers down her throat, trying to force herself to vomit all the food she had eaten earlier.
She felt sick and now she needed to think of a way to go to the healer to get her medicine. Thankfully, they were going back to the River Creek pack tomorrow.
However, the journey would take two weeks and what was left of her medicine wouldn't even last for another week.
She dreaded the very thought that her illness would act up again and she would start seeing them or hearing the voices in her head.
Later that night, Zuri couldn't fall asleep, thus she decided to go to Khaos' bedroom and snuggle against him.
She wished he would get intimate with her, because she felt rejected, but no. Instead, he pulled her closer and hugged her to sleep.
Was he really disgusted by her?
The next day, Zuri woke up, feeling a bit better, but Khaos was not in the bed. She was all alone and it made her feel this numbness creep in.
It took a lot of effort from Zuri to get up from the bed and prepare herself for their long journey to the River Creek pack.

"Alpha Khaos left for the River Creek pack two hours ago," Leonard informed Dacre about the recent movement of Khaos. "He took along Luna Zuri with him."
"As I have expected." Dacre nodded. freewebnøvel.coɱ
"Do you think she will be useful?" Leonard questioned the king. "We can see how infatuated she is with Alpha Khaos. She was even willing to betray her own family. Do you think it's wise to offer her such a deal?"
Dacre plucked a flower on his way to the queen's palace. He would always bring a flower that he plucked himself every time he visited his queen, as they had to walk through a garden full
of roses.
"I know she will run to Khaos immediately and report the conversation between me and her."
Leonard raised his brows. "If you knew about that, why would you agree to have her spy on Alpha Khaos?" He couldn't understand.
Dacre clicked his tongue. "I don't need to know Khaos' every move, I only need her to deliver false information."
