Chapter 69: OVERTHINKING

Zuri was throwing up, she poked her throat to get all the food she had eaten earlier out of her stomach. She couldn't stop doing this, even when her mother had gone.

No. Her mother was still there with her, she made sure she remembered not to gain weight and how unattractive she was. Even when she already died, she still found a way to mess with her head.

She told her one of a thousand reasons why Khaos had not yet bedded her was because she was not attractive, she was too fat.

She was crazy. Something was wrong with her...

"Did you do that often?"

A voice behind Zuri startled her. She whipped her head and found Khaos was standing not too far from her. Somehow, despite his intimidating figure, he managed to move stealthily, no to mention his unique scent. You wouldn't catch his scent until he was close enough to you.

Suddenly, Zuri became self conscious, as she wiped her mouth with her sleeve and stood up.

"I have a stomachache." Zuri lied smoothly, she didn't show any emotions on her expression. "I don't want you to see this, let's go back." She walked past him, but Khaos grabbed her by the elbow and stopped her.

"Did you do that often?" He repeated the question, seemingly didn't buy it when Zuri lied to his face.

"Did what?" Zuri looked confused, she furrowed her brows, as if she didn't understand what he was talking about.

"I saw it. You forced yourself to throw up." He was there long enough to watch what she was doing. "Why would you do that?"

Zuri shook his hand from her and then walked away. She didn't want to answer that. She couldn't answer that question and even if she had the answer, it would sound ridiculous. Khaos wouldn't understand. No one would understand.

Watching her back, Khaos's eyes narrowed. Zuri had been acting weird lately. He had caught her in several occasions when she talked to herself and was fidgeting. Her eyes would wander, as if she was looking for something that was not even there.

The night was long and rather cold, as they were in the middle of autumn and because the location of the black market was on an island that could only be reached by boat for half an hour from the River Creek pack, they had to be able to get there and go before the water froze and they were stuck on the island for the winter.

In the morning, they left immediately and Khaos didn't say anything about what happened last night, while Zuri pretended to sleep, until she fell asleep for real to avoid the question.

They arrived at the pier an hour later, where one of Khaos's men had been waiting for them with a small boat that could take up to ten people. There was no word that was exchanged and Zuri was fidgeting, because she felt like she was being ignored.

Yet, she didn't dare to start a conversation, for fear that he would ask about what happened last night.

What bothered her the most was; Khaos didn't even look at her in the eyes. He treated her like wind, or maybe it was only her, who was overthinking thing like usual.

She really needed her medicine. She was sure she could find her medicine in the black market. She had been there, she knew her way there, but the problem was; she didn't have money!

The irony of the situation... when she came from the richest pack of the kingdom and she didn't even have a single penny with her...

"Are you going to ignore me?" Finally Zuri couldn't take it anymore. "Why are you ignoring me?"

They were on the boat and Zuri was sitting on the back, while the other warriors were having discussion among themselves and Khaos was next to her, reading a few reports.

"I didn't ignore you." He put down the report and looked at her.

"You didn't talk to me."

"Because you look like you're going to explode if I come near you."

This time Khaos put down the report completely and put all of his attention on her, which made Zuri flustered. Probably, it was only in her head when she thought Khaos ignored her.

"Tell me what is in your mind."

"Nothing." There were a lot, but Khaos wouldn't understand. Right now, she was seeing Xaden was laughed condescendingly at her.

'You disgusted him.'

"Did I disgust you?"

Khaos frowned. "Where did you get that idea from?"

Instead of answering the question, she shifted the topic. "Tell me again about the lead that you got."

They came here to get the golden stamp from the lycan dynasty and Zuri was determined to get it. She would exhaust her resource that she had in black market if she had to.

"They have arrived at the River Creek pack, pack house this morning, but Rhett refused to open the gates, while Silas is still trying to talk him down."

"Rhett..." Dacre plucked a flower that he would give to Nycta on his way to her palace like usual, while Leonard filled him in about the progress in the River Creek pack. "I heard he has been travelling to many places."

"Yes, he recently returned when he heard about what happened with his father and fortified the pack."

"So, instead of sending help to his father and his stepmother, he chose to take over the pack. Interesting."

"Probably, because he thought his father was a lost cause, more so, there is no way he could fight his way to save his father against the royal."

"You are right." But, Dacre felt there was something more to it. It was too coldhearted.

When they finally arrived at the queen palace, Leonard retreated.

It was not like usual, the queen didn't wait for the king at the front door like usual. She must

be still on bed, thus Dacre went straight there.
