A New Life In The Beast World-Chapter 128: Fate
Liz turned to her at the sound of her voice before silently walking over to Serena. It then stopped in front of her and sat on its hind legs, tail flickering for a second.
Finally Liz asked, "What do you want to talk about?"
"This new mission..." Serena stated. "Do you promise no one will get hurt if I complete it? Can the Beast God promise that?"
She;d been going back and forth on whether to do this mission or not for some time now. And she knew deep down that she was going to land up accepting it despite the possible consequences.
Because that was the kind of person she was.
However, that didn’t make accepting it any easier. Thus she wanted a promise from the Beast God, so that her worries could at least be eased a little. Granted there was one other thing she wanted to confirm.
But one thing at a time.
"The Beast God can’t control that..." Liz answered bluntly. "Phyiscally, sure the Beast God can try and promise, however, someone getting jealous or hurt about what you do can never be controlled. Maybe reduced, but never taken away completely."
Serena sighed at those, figuring as much. The Beast God couldn’t fully control a being’s actions. Perhaps guide them, but he couldn’t control it. Which left the other thing she wanted to ask.
"This priest.... What’s he like?" Serena asked. "It’ll be a problem if our personalities clash."
After all, if they were going to be stuck together, it had to be with someone she could tolerate. Otherwise, there were going to be many headaches for her future self.
"You don’t have to worry about that. The Beast God has chosen someone that’ll pair well with you." Liz stated. "And if you don’t like him, just reject him and choose another priest."
Serena pursed her lips. "That doesn’t help much..."
"Well that’s all I have on his personality." Liz sighed. "The Beast God hasn’t given me much on him. Just that I’ll be able to see his symbol on the priest and know who he is."
"So, my information is limited again..." Serena couldn’t help but mutter. "Why tell me all that only to restrict things again..."
"Because it’s bad to know everything." Liz stated. "Self-fulfilling prophecy and all that. Telling you what he did has already caused some trouble. It’s why the Beast God had to cut off contact suddenly."
Serena frowned at that. "What do you mean?"
"Fate is trying to correct itself." Liz explained. "You are changing things and it’s beginning to take notice of your changes. Of how the world is changing thanks to what you’ve done in this world."
"But I haven’t done much..." Serena mused. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"That’s true, but think of what you plan to do." Liz said. "And of the missions the Beast God has given you. They’re meant to speed up progress in this world, destroying the balance Fate has over this place. And now it’s on the hunt for the abnormality.
"The Beast God has been sending it on a wild goose chase with his power to distract it while you work. Problem is you were going a bit too slow for his liking and putting your nose in business you weren’t meant to know yet. Hence why he told you everything so you’d making trouble."
"What is Fate exactly?" Serena sighed.
She had an understanding of it, however, Liz was talking about it like it was some kind of being. Her understanding of it was more of a concept than anything else.
"Hmm... You know how the Beast God is the creator god of this universe and builds everything within it..." Liz asked, getting a nod of understanding from Serena. It then said, "Well, Fate is a being created to dictate over the creator gods. Act like the police of the divine laws and make sure no one breaks them.
"It also gives mortals a set time limit and destiny. Though it tends to turn a blind eye on mortals’ predestined fate, allowing them a chance to break from it. Because of the whole free will law. That’s how Merinda is allowed to see the future, even if just briefly, and the future can go millions of different ways depending on one’s choices."
It then clicked.
"Your time limit ended and me existing in your body breaks that rule." Serena murmured.
"Well more like your soul living in my body bent the time limit rule, but yes." Liz corrected. "Fate is trying to find who broke the time limit and make the corrections. However, the Beast God has been creating decoys while you work."
Serena wasn’t sure how to feel about the decoys thing. Honestly, her main question was why the Beast God would go through so much trouble. Had he seen something in the future that he wanted to correct?
She knew he gave her a reason, but Serena didn’t believe it fully. There was more to the story. Still, it was unlikely that she’d ever get that out of the Beast God.
"Alright so Fate and the Beast God are having a go at each other while I do stuff in this world." Serena mused aloud, mostly to herself. "What happens if Fate discovers me? And what will happen once I complete both missions?"
She already knew what she was going to do once she got that second mission’s reward, but she still was curious about her options once everything was done.
"Well, Fate will try to kill you and perhaps destroy whatever you build." Liz answered. "As for what happens to you after you complete your missions, that’s up to you. You can continue living in this world until your new destined death or you can leave."
"And what will happen when I leave?" Serna asked curiously. "Will you come back to this body or something?"
Liz replied, "No. My soul will cease to exist along with the system and my body will die without your soul. That’s the price of my deal with the Beast God after all."
