A New Life In The Beast World-Chapter 140: Confession
"Alright I guess that’s sorted." Serena mused. "Now to deal with the other thing..."
Though she was unsure how exactly she was going to handle the rest of that conversation with Theo. Perhaps just alter her words? No, that would seem weird....
"This will be fun." Liz suddenly said, shifting into a bird and perching itself on Serena’s head. "Now let’s get moving before you lose your nerve."
"I won’t lose my nerve." Serena grumbled, straightening up.
"Sure..." Liz murmured, nestling in her hair. "Wanna bet on whether you can confess everything or not?"
Serena ignored the jab and exited the subspace. The moment she did, Theo gazed at her in confusion, likely noticing the instant she disappeared and reappeared. However, he said nothing about it
"I’m sorry Theo." Serena exclaimed, making the tiger beastman almost jump at the sudden apology. "Please allow me to take back my words. I didn’t mean what I said."
"Huh?" Theo frowned. "What are you going on about...?"
Was she messing with him or something? Or maybe he passed out in shock and this was all a dream. Because he couldn’t understand why Serena would say what she said and then suddenly want to take those words back.
How could someone change their mind so quickly?
"What I said about never making you my mate was wrong... If I’m being honest I do care about you, maybe not as a mate... But that possibly could exist in the future." Serena rambled on. "I just fear falling in love... That’s why I said those words. I didn’t want to get attached...
"I know you probably think I’ve lost it or maybe you hate me for what I said moments ago... But I want to ask for a second chance. And maybe we could change this fake relationship into a real one. Properly court each other... Um that’s if you’re still interested..."
By the time Serena was finished speaking, her face had gone as red as a tomato and her heart was pounding heavily. She couldn’t believe she had just said those words.
But like Liz said, it was about time she actually enjoyed her second chance at life.
Theo, on the other hand, felt like his head was spinning. He wouldn’t deny that he felt his heart flutter at that semi-confession, but he was also on the edge. Confused by this all.
"W-why the sudden change?" Theo asked, rubbing the side of his head.
"Because a little bird told me I was wasting my life staying in the past." Serena answered somewhat vaguely. "I want to stop denying myself a chance at happiness..."
"I see..." Theo mused. "I guess that bird was Liz?"
"Yes..." Serena nodded her head.
Theo pursed his lips, wondering what he was going to do. He was happy about how things had turned out despite being crushed for a moment. Though it did also make him worried.
Because who was to say he wouldn’t get burnt again...
"Um... Can I think this over?" Theo asked. "It’s been a long night and I think I’m going to need some time... to process this all."
"That’s fair enough." Serena said. "It will take some time to process all this... Take as much time as you need and don’t feel pressured to say yes."
Despite telling Theo to take his time, Serena did wish he would answer her quickly. She wasn’t sure if her nerves could handle all the suspense. But perhaps this was her punishment for being stupid.
Theo silently nodded his head in understanding, silence soon falling between them. The air got thick and awkward, neither one sure what to say.
Eventually, Serena got sick of the tension and coughed, "Anyway, I’m going to head in for the night... Don’t stay up too late."
Theo just silently nodded his head again and with that Serena headed inside the hut. Liz disappeared to her subspace, muttering something about it being anti-climatic.
Serena ignored the system as per usual and soon settled down for bed. But despite it being late and her body tired from the day, Serena couldn’t sleep.
Her eyes were wide open, gazing at the thatch roof ceiling as her mind played over the conversations she had. A lot could’ve gone better now that she looked back at it.
But one thing for sure was that she felt a little lighter. Like something heavy had been lifted off her chest.
She suddenly felt something shift and turned to see Kiro moving in his sleep. He let out a whimper and Serena reached out a hand to stroke the cub’s head. He nuzzled back into her hand, moving closer before settling back down.
Once Kiro settled back down, Serena turned her attention back to the thatch roof. Perhaps this wasn’t so bad after all.

The next morning, the tension between Serena and Theo was still thick. However, Serena said nothing, giving the tiger beastman some space. Because that was the only thing she could do now.
After all, she promised not to push for an answer despite not having one basically kept her up all night. With a sigh, Serena headed to the coop to feed the wild birds.
Kiro tagged along with her, the cub excited to see the wild birds. Honestly at this point, they were his pets with the way he acted around them. Granted they weren’t fully tamed yet.
Wendy and Beth, as Kiro called them, were better behaved and for the most part let Kiro get close to them. Sarah, on the other hand, still tried to peck anyone that got too close.
Which had Serena giving out a warning growl to both the cub and bird more than once. Because she did not need him getting an eye taken out.
When they got to the garden, they were met with the usual squawk from Sarah. They ignored the temperamental bird and headed to the coop. Inside, Serena found three eggs and handed them to Kiro along with the water bowl.
"Go put these in the hut. We’ll have them for lunch." Serena stated. "And fill this up with water for me... But don’t run, okay."
Kiro nodded his head as he took the items from Serena and ran off, completely ignoring her last instruction. Serena sighed, but turned her attention back to the coop.
She set to work cleaning it up while Kiro was gone before replacing the food. By then Kiro had returned with the water, spilling a little on himself along the way.
"Thank you. Now go wipe off that water before you get sick." Serena ordered, taking the water from him.
Kiro pouted, clearly wanting to stay longer, but a warning look from Serena told him she wasn’t kidding around. So, he ran off to wipe the water off him. Serena, meanwhile, put the water down and headed back to the hut.
She washed her hands and walked over to Theo who was busy preparing breakfast. She noticed an egg was being boiled and frowned.
"Did Kiro not tell you that that was for lunch?" Serena mused, glancing over at the cub who was walking out of the hut.
Kiro stopped in his tracks looking like a deer in the highlights under Serena’s sharp gaze. He then exclaimed, "Theo said I could have one for breakfast!"
"I did." Theo agreed as Serena turned her gaze back at him. "Don’t get mad at the cub."
"You shouldn’t spoil him too much." Serena muttered dryly.
She knew the cub loved eating eggs, but they couldn’t agree to that request all the time. What would happen when they didn’t have eggs? Besides, he needed to also eat other foods.
"And you shouldn’t be too strict." Theo retorted jokingly. "You don’t need to worry... I’m not really a fan of eggs anyway, so he can have mine for breakfast."
Serena pursed her lips at his word, but decided to leave it be. She didn’t want to get into an unnecessary fight so early in the morning.
"Kiro! Go get the bowls for breakfast." Theo suddenly instructed. The cub did as he was told, heading back into the hut. Once he was out of sight, Theo said in a lower tone, "Let’s do this courting thing..."
Serena blinked at him, taking a moment to process what he just said to her. However, she didn’t get a chance to say anything because Kiro came back with the bowls.
"This conversation isn’t done..." Serena grumbled as Theo went about dishing breakfast.
She wasn’t sure if he had done that purposely, knowing she couldn’t say anything with Kiro around. Because it would be strange that they would be courting when everyone thought they were already mates.
Once breakfast was done, Serena sent Kiro off to play so she could have a chance to speak with Theo while they cleaned up.
"Alright, we’re alone now..." Serena mused. "Now tell me, are you sure about this? You don’t have any questions or concerns?"
"I told you I agree to it." Theo murmured. "What more do you want me to say?"
Serena sighed, "It’s not that... I just want to be sure you’re not forcing yourself into this."
"While I’m a bit cautious about this... I’m not forcing myself. I promise." Theo then smiled. "After all, it’s not often you get such a confession. Do you think you can do it again?"
Serena went red in the face and grumbled, "Watch yourself..."
Theo just smirked at her words and went back to cleaning. Yes, he was a little anxious about this, but at least he now had a real shot at being with Serena despite the odds of it happening.
