A New Life In The Beast World-Chapter 72: Bath Time
Serena and Kiro soon returned to the hut just as Theo was checking the smoked meat. Kiro immediately ran over to the tiger beastman while Serena headed inside the hut to prepare her basket for a trip to the river.
Except for some clothes and fur towels, everything was technically in her subspace. However, she couldn’t just pull things out from thin air, so she had a daily ritual of placing them in her basket and then returning them to her subspace when she was done.
Normally, they’d go bathe right before sun set or in the evening, depending on how busy they were, but Kiro had managed to somehow get himself covered head to toe in mud.
Thus Serena was going to need to wash his hair now, so the sun could help dry his hair. Otherwise, even with a fur towel, Kiro was likely going to land up going to bed with damp hair at least.
Which was a cold waiting to happen with how cold the nights were getting and Serena wasn’t too keen on dealing with a sick cub. There was enough going on that she didn’t need to add that to the list of things to take care of.
And considering how he also only had one clean fur skirt left, Serena was going to have to wash his dirty one and hope that it dried by tomorrow. Because there was no doubt that the cub would get dirty again.
How Kiro was able to get so dirty so quickly was beyond her. Maybe it was just him being a kid because the other cubs were mostly the same from what she observed.
After packing up her basket, Serena stepped outside to find Theo with a familiar looking bird sitting on his arm. It took her a moment to realize she was looking at the Mimic Bird sent to the Forest City.
"Whe did the bird arrive?" Serena asked as she walked over to Theo.
Kiro was sitting on a log nearby, quietly messing around with a stick he probably found from their kindling pile. Theo glanced over at her.
"A few moments ago." Theo answered. "I was just about to take it back to Elder Samuel.... Are you two heading to the river?"
"Yeah. I need to get Kiro’s hair washed before it gets too late." Serena said. "Did the bird have any message?"
Seeing as the bird had come back and gone straight to Theo instead of its caretaker, Serena guessed Richard had received Theo’s message and likely replied back. With hopefully good news or well wishes.
Kiro perked up at the words and exclaimed before Theo could answer, "The bird said ’I’m going to kill you Theo!’ Sister."
"It was nothing much...." Theo muttered with a sigh as Kiro went back to playing with his stick, no longer interested in the conversation. "Just my uncle acknowledging the message. He enjoys being dramatic."
Serena frowned at his words, wondering if they had the same definition of someone being dramatic. Because in her eyes, sending a death threat was not being dramatic. It was threatening. Hence the term.
And it didn’t really help that Richard was capable of carrying out said threat, being stronger than Theo. It made Serena a little anxious as to whether Theo should be this calm about his uncle’s message.
"Are you sure?" Serena asked, voicing her concerns. "Your uncle seems upset if that’s what he replied with of all things."
"Probably, but he’ll get over it if he’s really mad at me." Theo shrugged. "He’s got the whole cold season to."
"And if he doesn’t?" Serena questioned. "What happens then?"
"Well then I guess you need to find a new mate." Theo joked before getting serious. "Honestly though, I think he’s more shocked than mad at me moving here. He’ll just need some time to accept it. After all, I’m a grown beastman now. He can’t stop me from doing what I want."
Serena pursed her lips at his words, knowing there was some truth to that. Still, the thought of having to find a new mate because Theo got himself killed didn’t sit well with her.
They had a perfect thing going and she didn’t want it to change anytime soon.
Sighing, Serena finally murmured, "Alright if you say so..."
"I do say so." Theo gave her a smile. He paused for a moment before adding, "Anyway, I think we should get going to the river. Let me drop this bird off quickly and then we can go."
"Ah right..." Serena turned her attention to Kiro and called out, "Kiro! Let’s get going."
The cub, who had wandered off a bit while the two were chatting, tossed the stick he was playing with and ran over to his sister. He grabbed her hand and Serena let him hold it despite the disadvantage it would give her in a fight.
She was slowly getting used to Kiro wanting her to hold his hand or carry him around.
They soon headed to the village center where Theo went to go find the bird’s caretaker. It took him several minutes to find the rabbit beastman and return back to where Serena and Kiro were waiting for him.
Once he returned, they headed to the river, taking a sharp turn to follow one of the many streams the river divided into. Some of the small streams were natural while others were made by the rabbit beastman so they could wash up safely without having to worry about strong river currents.
Also so the beastwomen could have a private area to wash up in away from prying eyes.
They first headed to one of the general streams where Serena helped Kiro wash his hair with her soap. Once he was properly cleaned, she took his dirty fur skirt, leaving him and Theo some clean towels and furs, before heading off to bathe herself.
But not before she told Kiro to get out of the water soon and sit in the sun to let his hair dry. The cub agreed and Serea walked some distance to get to one of the private streams to bathe.
When she got to the stream, she quickly stripped, tying her hair up in a bun using a hair tie she made from some vine, and got to washing herself. Normally, she’d wash her hair, but she didn’t want to linger around too long.
Getting Kiro’s hair properly dried was her priority. Plus she needed to wash his fur skirt.
It took her some scrubbing to get all the dried mud out of the fur and she made use of a yellow blossom so it would smell nice. As she was washing it, she noticed that it was beginning to look worn out.
Seems I’m going to need to make Kiro some new clothes. Serena mused to herself and she wringed out the fur skirt. Some parts of it barely have any fur on it.
They did have quite a few new furs and Serena doubted they were going to need all of them for blankets. Perhaps she could also make Theo and her some clothes. Her clothes were also starting to get worn out and Theo owned two pieces of clothing.
The one he was wearing and a spare one he made from some deer fur whenever the first one needed washing. She would just need a fish bone to use as a needle and some thread.
With that in mind, Serena got out of the cool water, toweled herself down before getting dressed. She then headed back to where Theo and Kiro were, washed clothing in hand. She’d hang it up back at the hut.
When she got to them, she found Kiro sitting on a rock near the stream with a fur towel wrapped around his shoulders. Theo, meanwhile, was still in the water, lazing around.
Kiro was the first to see Serena and cried out, "Sister!"
Serena gave him a small smile, placing the wet fur skirt over a tree branch nearby before walking over to him. She quietly picked up the fur towel next to him and began drying his hair.
It was still quite damp, but by her estimates it would dry within an hour or two. As she was manually drying Kiro’s hair, Theo swam over to them and got out of the water.
He quickly put on his fur skirt, not bothering to dry himself first. He then walked over to them and murmured, "Why don’t we head back. I can make a fire to help."
"That would be good, but I don’t want Kiro’s hair smelling like smoke." Serena mused, glancing up at Theo. She pursed her lips at the sight of water droplets going down his toned body. "Would you like a towel?"
"Sure I guess." Theo answered and Serena handed him a spare towel.
He took it and dried himself off as Serena tried to turn her full focus back onto drying Kiro’s hair instead of Theo. However, her eyes wouldn’t listen and watched him as he moved.
Serena had to admit he had quite the body. It must’ve taken a lot of training to get it so toned. Theo soon handed her back the towel with a raised eyebrow, snapping her back to reality.
"We should get going." Serena coughed, acting like she hadn’t been staring.
Theo smirked and nodded his head. "Sure."
And with that, they headed back to the village, Serena walking one step ahead of Theo with a confused Kiro.
