A New Life In The Beast World-Chapter 76: Meeting The Council (2)
"That could perhaps work, but there is still one question lingering on my mind." The plump beastwoman suddenly stated. "How will we get the Horse Clan to agree to this?"
"We make use of the Forest City." Serena replied. "The Forest City is their market and can do the negotiations for us since they have the connections to the merchants. We’ll just need to supply the city with the charted route and proposal to sell food during their journey. Sending an envoy to explain everything to the Forest City is the plan.
"In the meantime, we can start with the development plans to increase the amount of food produced as well as build accommodations for when the merchants make a stop. After all, the city will need proof that this could work too. And even if they land up not wanting to do this, we will have still developed the village for the better."
This plan was ambitious and Serena knew there was a small chance that the Forest City might refuse, thinking another tribe or village was better suited for the route. But even then, her original goal would have been reached.
Developing this village on a large scale.
"I must say, you have thought this though." The plump beastwoman mused with a small smile on her face. "I doubt you’ve told us everything, but I believe we have what we need to discuss this..."
Her gaze turned to the other beastmen and beastwomen sitting around her, watching their response. They all nodded their heads in agreement and the plump beastwoman turned back to Serena.
"Could you step out for a moment? We’d like to discuss this amongst ourselves." The plump beastwoman asked. "Elder Samuel will get you once we’re done speaking."
Serena nodded her head in understanding and left the room without another word. She’d only given them half of her plan and was a little anxious about them discussing what they knew.
Still, Elder Samuel did know everything, so perhaps could point out things that still confused them. Sighing, Serena leaned her head against the hut wall close to the door and mulled over her plan.
Some parts were a little rushed, but she felt it was the best solution she could come up with to grow this village. Otherwise, things would just keep getting worse.
At least with this, they’d have a better chance at feeding themselves and protecting themselves. That was if they went with her pentagon fortress idea. It would take a lot of work, but in her eyes it was the best style of defense.
They could easily guard all sections of the village with no blind spots compared to a normal rectangular or even square shaped boundary. Each corner would have a tower for guards to watch either side.
Makes me wonder why I decided to come here in the first place... Serena mused to herself. I did like the laying low part of this village, but I guess that’s out the window with this scheme of mine.
Maybe it was because of that system mission. As if knowing that she was thinking about it, a familiar blue screen suddenly popped up in front of her.
[Hidden Mission Triggered]
[Fate Changing I]
[You have come across a struggling village and given them a chance to change their fate for the better. Make them again to your plan which could change this world and bring about a new age.]
[Rewards: System Update]
[Accept] [Decline]
[Note: Once a mission has been declined, you’ll not be able to gain similar type rewards again. Coins excluded] 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
As she read those words, Serena was beginning to understand the system’s true motives. She was here to change things and bring about development to advance the beastmen around her.
Why she was chosen and not some genius was beyond her, but at least she now better understood the system and what it wanted from her.
It was slowly pushing her towards one clear goal, giving her what she needed to survive so she could focus on building. Passing down knowledge from her world to this one - at least that was the only conclusion she could come up with as to why she was here.
No wonder it wanted me to live here instead... Serena mused to herself. Though I wonder what this system update will entail. What will the benefits be?
It didn’t seem like much of a benefit to her because she didn’t know what the update would do. At least with the shop, she had an idea of the benefits, even if they didn’t really do much.
She wasn’t earning enough coins to warrant an effective use of the shop. Things there were just too expensive for her liking.
[Mission has been accepted.]
In the end, Serena decided to just accept the mission. She was doing the mission whether she got rewarded or not, so she might as well see what benefit the system update had that it counted as a reward.
She then continued to wait for the Council members to finish discussing whether to approve her plan or not. Time trickled by slowly and Serena was beginning to lose her nerve.
Her ears could pick up some chatting, but she couldn’t quite make out what they were saying. Of course, the hut soon became silent and a minute later Elder Samuel appeared.
"You can come in now." Elder Samuel said, quickly heading back inside before she had a chance to ask him anything.
Serena took a deep breath and entered the room. Seven sets of eyes quietly watched her as she took a seat before them. The room was silent as she settled back down, the air getting thicker by the minute.
Finally, the plump beastwoman spoke, her words cutting the tense air like a knife through butter, "We have discussed your plan for the village amongst ourselves and have reached an agreement. We will allow this plan to move forward, however, you will need the approval of the Council for every part of your scheme. That is the only condition we have to move this forward."
"And should this fail, it will be on your head alone." A small beastwoman with white rabbit ears added.
Serena nodded her head. "I understand. Thank you for the approval."
"Of course." The plump beastwoman smiled. "We may not seem like it, but we want this village to change for the better."
"As do I." Serena said, meaning every word.
