Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Sleeping Without a Care

"I didn’t think you’d dare."

Seth Quinn sat up straight, his earlier hostility gone. Even his tone sounded a little languid.

Clara Grant pouted. ’This beast,’ she thought. ’A moment ago he looked ferocious enough to want to slice me into a thousand pieces, and now he’s suddenly calmed down.’

’Looks like he’s the type you have to handle with kid gloves,’ she mused. ’Go along with him and you’ll prosper; go against him and you’ll perish!’

’If I want to survive this, I have to play along with him.’

Just as Clara Grant settled on this thought, she heard Seth Quinn speak again, his voice slow. "I’m hungry. You’re taking me out to eat."

"Eat?" It wasn’t even four o’clock. ’What kind of meal are we having now?’ she wondered. ’And he wants *me* to pay?’

"What, is that a problem?" Seth Quinn shot her a cool glance.

"It’s fine, of course it’s fine." Clara Grant scratched her head. "But I don’t have my wallet with me."

"Go get it."

’You beast! Damn it, you really are going to make me pay!’

She cursed him internally but didn’t dare say a word. Pushing the car door open, she prepared to get out.

Seth Quinn’s unhurried voice came from behind her again. "Don’t even think about hiding upstairs and not coming back down. If I get upset and leak the news about our marriage, don’t blame me when it happens. Also, I’ll only wait five minutes."

Clara Grant gritted her teeth in frustration. "Don’t worry, I’m not the type of person who goes back on her word!"

She dashed upstairs, grabbed her wallet, backpack, and phone. Squeezing her wallet, she recalled how Miles Quinn hadn’t actually let her pay for their meal that morning.

She had insisted on paying, but Miles Quinn had been quicker.

She’d felt especially guilty at the time, since she had eaten most of the food they ordered.

Now, however, she was actually feeling relieved.

’Otherwise, I wouldn’t have the money to treat his lordship downstairs to a meal.’

’He was nothing like Miles Quinn, who was kind enough to cover the bill in the end.’

Despite her thoughts, she didn’t dare waste a second. Grabbing her things, she dashed back downstairs and hopped into the car.

Seth Quinn said nothing, simply starting the car and driving out of the residential complex onto the main road.

"If you have something to say, just say it."

After Clara Grant had snuck a glance at him for the umpteenth time, opening her mouth as if to speak only to close it again, Seth Quinn finally broke the silence.

"Uh, so... where do you want to eat?"

Since he’d seen right through her, Clara Grant stopped hesitating, though her tone was cautiously probing.

’She really didn’t want to go somewhere as expensive as the Western restaurant from that morning. Her poor heart couldn’t take it.’

"You’ll know when we get there," Seth Quinn said coolly, without even looking at her.

Seeing that she couldn’t get a straight answer out of him, Clara Grant pouted in silent frustration, leaned back against the seat, and closed her eyes to rest.

Perhaps because she hadn’t slept well the previous night and had skipped her afternoon nap, she drifted off to sleep without even realizing it.

After driving a while longer, Seth Quinn realized he hadn’t heard a peep from the passenger seat. He glanced over and found that the woman had actually fallen asleep, seemingly without a care in the world.

’He was still reeling from the shocking news Chloe Grant had given him, unable to shake it. For instance, the fact that Miles, his own brother, had lied about being Clara Grant’s boyfriend just to help her out of a jam.’

’Or that Miles and Clara Grant—his own brother and his own wife—had been eating together behind his back.’

’Or that Clara Grant, his wife, had always been in love with Miles, his own brother!’

’This information shattered his composure. He didn’t know if this was jealousy, but he knew he was upset. Very upset.’

’It felt as though something that belonged to him was being coveted by someone else for no reason. And that someone else was his own brother.’

’Here he was, suffering in agony, and she... she was asleep!’

With a short SQUEAL of tires against the pavement, Seth Quinn brought the car to a firm stop on the side of the road.
