A Night of Desire-Chapter 157: What’s There to Check? A Waste of Everyone’s Time
While Faye Jennings was talking to the other girl, Clara Grant had already taken a careful look at the suitcase in her hands, discovering it wasn’t hers either.
She was lost in thought when she suddenly heard Faye Jennings telling her to open the suitcase and check its contents, causing her to hesitate.
The suitcase wasn’t hers. Under normal circumstances, she would have frankly denied it without a second thought.
But right now, she was desperate to escape the predicament of being misunderstood. A suitcase had appeared out of nowhere just when she needed one. Even though it wasn’t hers, it could help her get out of this jam.
Faye Jennings was telling her to open it and check, supposedly worried that her things might be missing—all for her own good. But the suitcase wasn’t hers, so she really didn’t have the nerve to open it. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
However, not opening it would be a slight to Faye, a rejection of her kind intentions.
Clara Grant was caught in a dilemma, unsure whether to open it or not.
When Faye Jennings saw her hesitating, she sneered inwardly and pressed her, "Clara?"
Clara Grant steeled herself and crouched down. Just as her hand touched the suitcase zipper, a cold, impatient voice rang out, "What is there to check? It’s a waste of everyone’s time."
Clara Grant looked up, her gaze meeting Seth Quinn’s deep, dark eyes.
His face was expressionless, and she couldn’t tell what he was thinking. But when he finally spoke, she felt an inexplicable sense of relief.
’The most important person here has spoken. No one would dare to object now, right?’
’My awkward situation should be resolved now.’
Seth Quinn glanced at the suitcase on the floor, then fixed his gaze on her. His thin lips parted once more. "Is the suitcase yours?"
Clara Grant met his gaze. She wanted to shake her head, but under his intense stare, she subconsciously nodded. "It is."
"Is there anything important inside?" Seth Quinn seemed quite pleased with her answer, a hint of a smile even touching his dark eyes.
"...No." Clara Grant stared into his eyes, momentarily dazed. ’Are his eyes... smiling?’
"Then that settles it. What else is there to check?"
Seth Quinn’s gaze shifted from Clara Grant’s face to scan the crowd. His eyes remained deep and dark, but the hint of a smile he’d shown her vanished in an instant, replaced by a cool indifference.
"Let’s go. It’s about time."
Seth Quinn raised his wrist, glancing at the expensive watch there. After speaking, he took the lead and started walking away.
Since the President had spoken, no one dared to object, and the group quickly followed suit.
Faye Jennings stared at Seth Quinn’s retreating back. She opened her mouth to speak, but ultimately didn’t dare to say another word.
Seething with resentment, she turned to Clara Grant, her face arranged into a kind, concerned smile. "Clara, go put your luggage away. Come right down for dinner when you’re done."
Relieved that the crisis was over, Clara Grant relaxed significantly and returned her smile. "Okay, Faye."
Faye Jennings nodded at her and took the lead in walking away. The moment she turned around, the smile vanished from her face, replaced by thick resentment and a sullen expression.
’That Clara Grant! I’ve set her up with carefully laid plans time and again, but none of it has had the slightest effect on her. Instead, I just keep giving her more screen time for free! Of course I’m not going to stand for it.’
’Clara Grant’s acting skills are really something else. She knew perfectly well that suitcase wasn’t hers, yet she told Seth Quinn it was without batting an eye. So poised under pressure!’
’She even fooled Seth Quinn so easily!’
At that moment, Faye Jennings was so consumed with her resentment for Clara Grant and her frustration that Seth Quinn had been so easily deceived, that she completely forgot to wonder why the girl with the wrong suitcase had appeared in the first place.
