A Night of Desire-Chapter 57: Who Is That Man?
Hearing Ivy Vance’s response, Chloe Grant hurried a few steps to catch up to Miles Quinn and Clara Grant, who were walking ahead.
"Miles." Chloe Grant’s tone instantly shifted, becoming both gentle and cheerful.
The two of them turned in unison. When Miles Quinn saw it was her, a look of resignation crossed his face. In the show they had just finished filming, he had played the male lead, and Chloe Grant had played the second female lead, who was obsessively in love with his character.
So, during the three months of filming, they saw each other every day. Chloe Grant didn’t just cling to him on-screen; she pestered him off-screen as well.
At long last, the show had wrapped. He never thought he’d run into her again on the very first day back at university.
’Seriously, is she going to haunt me forever?’
If seeing Miles Quinn had left Clara Grant feeling a mix of joy and complication, her mood now was completely sullen. Her entire expression fell.
If there was one person in the world she wanted to see the least, it would be Chloe Grant.
Never mind that Chloe Grant’s mother had been the other woman, the one who caused her parents’ divorce. While Clara and her mother were forced to move out of the Grant Family home, Chloe and her mother had simply taken over their nest, living carefree and happy lives.
Putting that aside, Clara could never bring herself to like Chloe, not after all the underhanded schemes she’d pulled to sabotage her acting career.
So, seeing her now, Clara was naturally far from happy.
"Oh, Clara Grant, you’re here too," Chloe Grant said, feigning surprise as if she had only just noticed her.
At the university, no one knew about Clara Grant’s past as the eldest daughter of the Grant Family. And of course, no one knew they were actually half-sisters.
As far as anyone else was concerned, they were just classmates.
Clara had no desire to engage with her. Her first instinct was to turn and walk away, but with Miles Quinn standing right there, she worried that such an odd reaction would make him suspicious. It would also leave him with the impression that she was rude.
After all, Miles didn’t know about their history, nor did he have any idea how hostile their relationship truly was—like fire and water.
So, she forced herself to give Chloe Grant a small nod.
But the cloying, fake intimacy in Chloe’s tone as she said her name made Clara feel awkward enough to gag. She turned her head, about to tell Miles, "I should get going. You two can chat," but Chloe spoke again before she had the chance.
"Oh, Clara Grant, how come you have so much free time today? No business to take on?"
As she spoke, Chloe wore an innocent smile, as if it were just a casual, offhand comment. But Clara wasn’t an idiot; she could clearly hear the sarcasm and disdain lacing her words. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
’Clara scoffed inwardly. ’"Take on business"? The way she put it made me sound like a prostitute taking on clients.’
’Besides, it’s early morning. Isn’t it perfectly normal to not have any business yet?’
Though cursing inwardly, she managed a faint smile. "Listen to you. Earning money is important, but you still have to go to class on time, don’t you? I’m not some high and mighty young lady from a prestigious family, nor am I a huge star so busy she can’t get away. What right or reason would I have to skip class every day? Right?"
On the surface, her words sounded perfectly reasonable, but their underlying meaning was clear if you thought about it for a moment.
After all, outside of filming, Chloe Grant rarely showed up for classes at the university, even when she was free.
And her identity was that of both a prestigious young lady and a huge star.
Wasn’t Clara’s jab at her perfectly obvious?
Chloe kept the smile on her face, but inwardly she was grinding her teeth in anger. Still, she couldn’t say much in response.
But not firing back at all felt unbearably frustrating.
"Fair point. But are you still running those thankless, low-paying errands? Or have you found an easier way to make money?"
She paused, then continued as if she had just remembered something. "Oh, right. I saw you at the university entrance earlier. You were getting out of a luxury car, and a man was driving it. And you two looked awfully close. Who was that man? And what’s your relationship?"
Clara knew the windows on Seth Quinn’s car were tinted, so it was impossible for Chloe to have seen what was happening inside—impossible that she’d seen Seth Quinn forcibly kissing her.
Still, Clara couldn’t help but feel a flicker of panic.
