Chapter 73: Chapter 73: What, Are You Jealous?

While Sarah Shelby and Seth Quinn talked, Clara Grant leaned against a pillar, bored. Head bowed, she idly scuffed her foot against the ground.

A voice spoke from overhead. "Stop scuffing. Any more and you’ll ruin your shoes."

She snapped her head up to see Seth Quinn’s face.

His face was as handsome as ever, but something about it seemed different from before.

In the past, every time she saw him, his expression was invariably glacial—either cold and merciless, or filled with scorn and disdain.

Now, however, while his face was blank, it wasn’t as glacial as before.

’No, this isn’t a recent change. It seems like his attitude toward me was already different when I saw him this morning.’

’He even said he wanted to marry me, and... he kissed me!’

The thought of that kiss made Clara’s face flush. She bit her lower lip and glared at the man before her, her voice sharp. "None of your business!"

Seth Quinn stuck one hand in his pocket, a suggestive smile playing on his lips. "What’s wrong? Jealous?"

As he spoke, he leaned forward slightly, bracing his other hand against the pillar behind her.

"Jealous? What is there to be jealous about?"

His words were so out of left field that Clara was a bit stunned, completely oblivious to how close they now stood or how intimate their posture was.

"When a woman stops a man from hitting on another woman, and then immediately turns hostile the moment he says a single word to her... isn’t that a classic sign of jealousy?"

Clara Grant sneered at him. "Hah. Should I call you out for jumping to conclusions, or for being too narcissistic? I stopped you from hitting on Sarah because I don’t want you getting your claws into my friend. I’m harsh with you because I don’t like you! And if I don’t like you, why would I be jealous over you?"

Seth Quinn’s brow furrowed for a moment before smoothing out again. "Well, at least it’s just dislike, not hate."

Clara didn’t want to deal with his bizarre remarks. She leaned to one side to look past him. Not seeing Sarah, she turned back to him and asked, "Where’s my friend?"

"Oh, I told her to go on ahead." Seth Quinn’s gaze was fixed on her face, his expression full of amusement, as if he were anticipating something. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Sure enough, his words made the girl’s eyes fly wide with a mixture of surprise, suspicion, and disbelief.

Looking at her expressive, lively face, Seth Quinn felt a surge of delight.

A gust of night wind blew a few stray strands of hair from behind her ear across her face. He took his hand out of his pocket and reached over, gently tucking them back behind her ear. The gesture was so natural and tender, it was as if they had been lovers for years.

Clara, still reeling from the shock of Sarah having abandoned her, was startled again by Seth Quinn’s sudden move. It was one surprise right after another.

Her first instinct was to pull away, but as she looked up and saw his face, she froze, staring at him blankly.

His features seemed impossibly gentle in that moment, his deep eyes filled with tenderness. If his face was usually a cold iceberg, then now it was a placid pool in springtime.

The way he brushed her hair back was so gentle, so natural. For some reason, Clara’s heart skipped a beat.

Not until Seth Quinn’s fingers gently brushed against her soft, supple lips did Clara snap back to reality. Only then did she realize just how close they were, how intimate their posture was. ’And I didn’t even notice!’

Clara immediately leaped back a step, putting some distance between them. She cried out in a low, frustrated voice, "Who said you could tell her to leave? Now that she’s gone, how am I supposed to get home?"

"You’re my woman. Naturally, I’ll be the one to take you home."
