Chapter 71: Are you angry_1

Passing by a women’s shoe store, Sun Qiyan suddenly stopped.

He looked at the store. "Change your shoes. You can barely walk anymore."

Shen Jing, surprised by his attentiveness, went into the store and bought a pair of comfortable flats. She took off her high heels, carrying them in her hand.

"I don’t really like blind dates," she said. "Grandma is forgetful and always fusses about me still being single at 30."

Even at thirty, she wasn’t in a rush to go on blind dates. She felt that marriage was too distant, like with her mother, who had made one wrong step and ended up with nothing good.

"You said you have a boyfriend," Sun Qiyan looked up at the building, a slight smile playing on his lips as he whispered, "but that’s a complete lie."

The wind blew her long hair. A faint smile touched her lips. "I didn’t exactly lie to you."

Indeed, he wasn’t her boyfriend, but their relationship was worse than that of lovers. It was so bad that when others asked, she didn’t know how to answer who she was to Zhou Luchen, or who Zhou Luchen was to her. Slept together. Lived together. He supported her. Occasionally, when his emotions were stirred, he would whisper in her ear that she was his woman. The implication of those few words was starkly naked.

Leaning against a streetlight, Sun Qiyan watched her wind-tousled hair. "You’re too naive. Your lies are so obvious, anyone can see through them."

Shen Jing laughed. "He says the same about me—that my attempts to deceive are written all over my face."

That’s why ’he’ was always indifferent to her tricks, watching her performance with a blank expression.

Sun Qiyan arched an eyebrow. "He?"

Shen Jing continued walking. "Let’s not talk about it anymore."

Just then, a car suddenly pulled up beside them. The driver got out and handed the car keys to Sun Qiyan.

Turning his head, Sun Qiyan looked at her impassively. "It’s getting late. I’ll drive you home."

Shen Jing’s place wasn’t conveniently located, so she declined. "I’ll take a taxi. Don’t trouble yourself."

Not wanting to be indebted to Sun Qiyan, she hailed a taxi, got in, and waved.

"Brother Qiyan, please tell our grandparents that we’re just not suitable for each other."

Leaning against his car, Sun Qiyan nodded and watched the taxi drive away. Only then did he get into his own car. He didn’t start the engine immediately, instead leaning back in the driver’s seat, deep in thought.

After pondering for a while, Sun Qiyan picked up his phone and made a call.

The person on the other end was Luo Yuanping.

Luo Yuanping laughed carelessly. "Qiyan, is she trying to hook you again? You don’t know this, but while she was leading me on, she was also involved with some other guy."

Sun Qiyan wasn’t interested in what Luo Yuanping had to say, focusing only on the important question, "Which guy?"

Luo Yuanping seethed, clearly having suffered quite a bit at her hands. "No idea who he is, but every time I saw Shen Jing, that guy was there."

Sun Qiyan slowly started the car, a smile playing on his lips as he drawled, "Oh?"

Loud music and joyous laughter blared from the other end of the call.

"Let me tell you, I can’t be bothered with her anymore. I’ve got a new girlfriend now, definitely prettier than her."

One could easily imagine Luo Yuanping at some nightclub booth, his new girlfriend in his arms, having a blast.

"My best," Sun Qiyan replied, his tone clearly perfunctory.

"You like her, huh? There are so many good girls out there. Why do you have to set your sights on her?" Luo Yuanping said mockingly.

Sun Qiyan didn’t respond. He hung up and stepped on the gas, heading home.

Luo Yuanping looked at the darkened screen of his phone, then casually bent down to kiss the new girlfriend in his arms.

His new girlfriend was clearly jealous about the phone call. "Who’s Shen Jing? Your ex-girlfriend?"

Luo Yuanping glanced down, tightening his hold on the woman in his arms. His words were tinged with resentment, "I don’t know her. She doesn’t want decent men; she prefers to mingle in elite circles, thinking too highly of her looks."

「Hotel parking lot.」

Liang Yingning finally spotted Zhou Luchen. She watched as a bodyguard from the Zhou family opened the car door. freeweɓnøvel~com

Before Zhou Luchen got into the car, Liang Yingning hurried forward, unable to stop herself from saying, "You don’t intend to marry her anyway. She’s only meeting people to appease her family."

Zhou Luchen settled into the car with an air of indifference, his gaze light. "Why should I marry her?"

The car window was half-lowered, revealing the man’s handsome profile, devoid of any discernible emotion.

Liang Yingning fidgeted with her fingers, unable to refute Young Master Zhou’s words. She was all too familiar with how these people played around, squandering money like dirt. Marriage, to them, seemed a distant and laughable concept. She considered Shen Jing a friend, but some things were hard to voice. When it came to friendship, she feared Zhou Luchen’s methods more, often choosing silence when it mattered. She even knew clearly that Shen Jing and Zhou Luchen would never last. Meeting someone better on a blind date and getting away from Zhou Luchen would actually be a good thing.

As the Maybach left the parking lot, Liang Yingning stretched. Why did Shen Jing have to get involved with Zhou Luchen? It was sheer luck that the two Zhou families hadn’t intervened.

Shen Jing returned to Yunding at 10:00 PM.

She knew Zhou Luchen hadn’t returned yet. For the first two hours, she waited patiently. During the next two, she spent a long time composing a text message but ultimately didn’t send it.

She closed the message, tossed her phone aside, and burrowed under the covers to sleep alone.

Without him, she slept restlessly. Waking early, she pushed open the study door but still found no sign of Zhou Luchen.

She decided to send the text message: "Aren’t you coming back? Are you mad at me?"

It was his assistant, Li Heng, who called back. "Miss Shen, President Zhou is in a meeting in Shenzhen. He’ll be back later."

Shen Jing froze, clutching her phone. Alright then. It seemed she had been overthinking things. How could he possibly be angry? How could he possibly be jealous? His world revolved around power and influence; he was more passionate about expanding his business empire to new heights. It merely touched upon his bottom line as a man, concerning the possession he kept in his Jinwu. He was different from her. When she thought about how Lu Siyuan’s dazzling success all stemmed from Zhou Luchen’s support, a pang of jealousy struck her. That was the kind of possessiveness a normal person felt for someone they cared about.

He was always like this, staying out without a word.

However, Shen Jing hadn’t expected to run into Sun Qiyan when she went downstairs. He was walking a dog, a supermarket bag in his right hand.

Sun Qiyan showed brief surprise. "You live here too?"

"Yes." Shen Jing tucked her hands into her cardigan pockets. "What a coincidence."

Sun Qiyan watched her. The soft pink cardigan made her look exceptionally gentle, a stark contrast to the fiery, sexy woman from the restaurant.

"Ajing," he observed, "you seem like a different person from yesterday."

Shen Jing smiled awkwardly but didn’t explain.

Just then, an older man, Uncle Sun, approached, carrying a bag of vegetables. "Oh, Nannan!" he exclaimed warmly. "Come and eat with us."

Shen Jing wasn’t in the mood for food, but she maintained a smile and greeted him, "No trouble, Uncle Sun, I was just about to go out."

"Eat before you go," Uncle Sun kindly urged. "You’re not in a rush, are you?"

As he spoke, Uncle Sun cheerfully held up the bag in his hand.

Seeing Uncle Sun’s kind insistence, Shen Jing helped him with the bag. "Not busy."

Uncle Sun was always enthusiastic. "I’ll make some extra and take it to your grandma. She likes braised meatballs, and I’ll add more sugar—she loves sweet meat. It’s even better that you live here too! If you don’t feel like cooking, come eat at Qiyan’s place. He’s usually alone."

Shen Jing accompanied Uncle Sun into the elevator. "It’s too much trouble."

Sun Qiyan, who had been quiet, suddenly interjected, "Not a hassle."
