Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 414: Cave Stone Gate
[Donald’s Perspective]
Charlie seemed to want to say something else, but after seeing the undeniable expression on my face, he took a deep breath and responded with a ’yes’.
I followed behind my Beta, heading towards the mouth of the cave.
The closer we got to this huge black cave, the thicker the corpses and shattered flesh on the road became; the blood submerged the soles of my combat boots. I raised my hand to put on the mask around my neck and continued forward with a frown!
With Lycan warriors clearing the path, we moved quickly, but as we went further inside, the temperature clinging to our bodies dropped lower and lower. About half an hour later, I noticed that the gauze on my arm was soaked with fresh blood, the pain stabbing at my brain nerves, making me all the more alert.
The serum that Benjamin had just injected me with seemed unable to completely cleanse the toxins in my body. I began to feel an abnormal fever in my body, but it was still within my tolerable range.
Because we needed to move cautiously, we didn’t use flashlights, relying solely on the werewolves’ innate night vision to navigate in the pitch dark.
I held my handgun, keenly listening to the movements ahead.
Suddenly, the Lycan leading us reported in a deep voice, "Your Majesty! There’s a huge stone gate here, we are blocked outside!"
Upon hearing this, I quickly walked over, using my superior night vision to examine the stone gate. It appeared very abruptly and seemed out of place in this underground passage.
"Could it be the actual undersea passage behind this? I think I can smell the salty scent of seawater!" Christian said, following closely behind me with some confusion.
He was always meticulous and good at spotting anomalies in our environment.
I gently sniffed and indeed caught the fishy damp smell Christian mentioned, but this odor was subtly strange, similar to the bloody smell we had smelled at the entrance of the cave!
"This doesn’t seem right, this doesn’t smell like seawater! And the geography here is off too. If there was all seawater behind this, the pressure that this stone gate would have to withstand would be immense."
"The connection between this stone gate and the cave isn’t tight, seawater could completely seep through these cracks, yet the ground beneath our feet is dry, so it’s unlikely that there’s sea behind this." I thought through slowly and came to this conclusion, touching the stone wall before glancing at Elliot.
"Can you check how thick this stone gate is? With explosives, could we blast through it?" I asked Elliot.
Upon my words, my Beta immediately placed his ear against the gate, lightly tapping the stone wall. After a while, he shook his head and answered, "This stone gate is too thick, ordinary explosives can’t blast through! Also, the cave structure we’re in can’t withstand such a strong impact. If we try, the gate might not open and instead the cave could collapse on us!"
Elliot’s response aligned closely with my prediction. I sighed lightly, then turned to examine the situation on both sides of the stone gate.
"Is there really no other way? Your Majesty and us have come through so much difficulty to get here, and we’re so close to catching up with Henry and his group. How can we let a stone gate stop us now?"
The one who spoke, always silent on the journey, was Benjamin. He stepped forward and punched the stone gate, his expression urgent and agitated.
After thinking, he looked at me and continued, "Your Majesty! Since Henry and his group passed through here before us, at least it proves that this route is passable. There must be some mechanism on this gate that can’t be destroyed simply by human force or modern technology."
I looked at him sideways upon hearing this, my mind swiftly flashing through some thoughts. I turned to the Lycans next to me and instructed straightforwardly, "Bend down and search inch by inch. I refuse to believe there isn’t a switch here to open this stone gate! I must capture the traitors Henry and Martha today!"
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
My Lycan warriors responded in unison, and then knelt on the ground to start searching bit by bit. This method was indeed a bit foolish, but without any clues, that was all we could do for now!
"Your Majesty! Shall we turn on a couple of flashlights? It might make it easier to observe." Christian squatted next to me and suggested.
Upon hearing this, I took a deep breath and nodded, agreeing to his suggestion.
Previously, we avoided using flashlights for fear of startling the enemy, but now with this heavy stone gate blocking, it was unlikely that Henry would discover us.
With the light, Benjamin seemed to breathe a little easier. Unlike Elliot and Christian, who needed to frequently complete various missions outdoors and were used to environments like this darkness, the unknown often induces more fear, such as darkness!
I endured the discomfort in my body and carefully examined the stone walls beside me.
Suddenly, Benjamin, squatting on the right side of the wall, let out a strange questioning sound, "Huh? What’s this piece of torn cloth doing under this stone?"
