Abnormal Gourmet Chronicle-Chapter 1185 - 567: The Best Scene
"Old Xu, are we playing chess this afternoon?"
It's evident that Xu Chenggang is indeed the chess master of the retirement home.
Qin Huai and An Youyou exchanged a glance.
"Grandpa Xu, if you have something to do this afternoon, we won't disturb you. We can come to see you tomorrow morning instead."
Xu Chenggang nodded with a smile: "Alright, let's go to the cafeteria to eat first."
The cafeteria in the retirement home is small, reportedly because many elderly have mobility issues, and the caregivers deliver meals to their rooms. However, there are a few who prefer dining outside their rooms, hence this small cafeteria.
The menu is quite diverse, offering 8 dishes to choose from, three meats and five vegetables, generally light and not greasy, as the elderly shouldn't consume heavily seasoned foods.
Besides hot dishes, there are fruits available—apples, pears, and bananas, the standard three-piece fruit set.
The Fermented Rice with Steamed Buns that Qin Huai brought hadn't been steamed yet. After getting Xu Chenggang's approval, the cafeteria chef steamed a whole bag of buns.
While Qin Huai was getting his meal, he felt like he was back at Yunzhong Restaurant. When he took the first bite of scrambled eggs with tomatoes mixed with rice, the feeling intensified.
Everything tasted sweet.
It was the kind of sweetness with a bit too much sugar. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Weren't they saying that elderly shouldn't eat heavily seasoned foods?
Xu Chenggang handed Qin Huai a banana, a yellow one with some black spots, not very attractive, but anyone who eats bananas regularly would know it's definitely sweet.
"Xiao Gong told me you love bananas, Master Qin." Xu Chenggang sat down, facing Qin Huai.
Qin Huai paused, took the banana, and smiled: "Thank you."
Xu Chenggang chuckled and lowered his head to eat.
In just a few minutes, the Fermented Rice with Steamed Buns was ready.
As the steaming basket was opened, the small cafeteria was instantly filled with the rich aroma of the buns, causing everyone eating there to instinctively look up, searching for the source of the fragrance.
"Fermented Rice with Steamed Buns, these are Fermented Rice with Steamed Buns!" Clearly, an old loyal customer of the State owned Restaurant.
"Has Zheng Da come to the retirement home to make buns?"
"I don't think so. I heard he made quite a fortune in business and no longer sells buns."
"Who said he doesn't sell buns anymore? My daughter bought his company's frozen buns this past New Year."
"I can't explain this to you."
Xu Chenggang had already instructed the caregivers at the retirement home to distribute the bag of buns. There were too many elderly, so not everyone could get one, not even a bite; the distribution was limited to those dining in the cafeteria.
The cafeteria staff carefully sliced each bun in half, giving half to each person, served on small plates, distributed by caregivers to prevent unnecessary conflicts.
Qin Huai dipped the bun in the scrambled eggs with tomatoes' sauce—even if it seemed odd, he liked using buns as a side dish and dipping them in sauce.
As he mentally criticized the overly sweet sauce as unsuitable for dipping buns, he continued eating large bites.
Looking up, Qin Huai noticed Xu Chenggang smiling and watching him.
"Master Qin, is there not enough food? How about I give you my half of the bun?" Xu Chenggang asked.
Qin Huai quickly waved his hands, saying: "No need, no need, Mr. Xu, you forgot, I'm the one who brought the buns."
Xu Chenggang paused: "I forgot, seems I'm getting old and a bit forgetful."
"You're not forgetful at all." Shi Dadan suddenly chimed in.
Xu Chenggang smiled at Shi Dadan and said nothing, continuing to eat his meal.
