Abyss Descension: I Perform Rituals to Evolve In The Apocalyps-Chapter 39: Placating
Chapter 39 - Placating
She had lost her backpack full of items when she was ambushed by the female corpse spider. The only thing of value she had left was her enchanting face and her smokin' hot body.
Should she trade that for what he was promising?
It was a hard choice to make.
Don't judge her by the way she was dressed. She was a virgin. She simply liked to be stylish. That was why, regardless of society's judgmental views on so-called "controversial" fashion, she loved to wear outfits that made her feel confident and comfortable in her skin.
Although she understood the relationship between men and women, thanks to the sex ed classes she'd taken in her youth, she had never been intimate with a man in her life.
But now... now she felt like she had no other choices besides dying in vain or giving up her dignity and spreading her legs to the demands of a man she had met not long ago to survive.
Just thinking about sex was a trigger for the memories buried in her subconscious mind to reveal themselves. A sudden rush of emotions and memories overwhelmed her. With a yelp, her knees gave out and she collapsed to the ground.
"Are you okay?" Kev asked, instinctively moving to help her.
Even though he'd gained superpowers and taken on the eerie role of a corpse collector, his personality hadn't changed. He was still very much in touch with his humanity.
He knelt on one knee beside CrimsonSheWolf, gently holding her by the shoulder as he looked at her with genuine concern.
She raised her head and met his gaze in stunned silence as ten whole years' worth of emotions and memories, detailing how he had stuck by her side through thick and thin, saved her from danger, helped her in times of need, provided her with everything she needed, and fulfilled her every desire without complaint, were forcefully shoved down her throat.
They came fast and unrelenting, like a flood and were so raw and intense that she couldn't tell what was real anymore.
In the end, she broke down into tears.
"Why are you crying? Did you hurt yourself in the fall?" Kev asked in concern.

He couldn't understand what a big mess her state of mind had been swept into. Otherwise, he would have just kept quiet and waited for her process everything and gather herself.
CrimsonSheWolf responded to him by shaking her head, but she didn't crying, her fingers curling into the fabric of his clothes.
"If you don't speak, I won't understand what's hurting you," Kev said softly.
"I don't understand it either," she whispered between sobs.
"Kev, I think I understand what's happening with her. I think she's experiencing the side effects of being trapped in the Female Corpse Spider's cocoon," Natasha said. "She doesn't look a day over eighteen. Gaining ten years' worth of memories all at once... should be too much for her to handle.
"What should I do?" Kev asked for guidance. He had never dealt with a situation like this before, so he was clueless about how he could be of help.
"Just hold her until she calms down," Natasha advised. "And don't let her do anything drastic."
A person who couldn't tell reality from falsehood could end up making extreme decisions. Natasha was afraid CrimsonSheWolf might turn to self-harm, so she made sure Kev would stay close and watch over her.
Following Natasha's guidance, Kev held CrimsonSheWolf tightly and waited patiently for her to cry her heart out.
While he couldn't fully grasp the pain of a woman who had just realized that the last ten years of her life had just been a big, fat lie, he knew it had to be immense.
CrimsonSheWolf cried in his arms for a long time... before she finally began to calm down.
"Thank you," CrimsonSheWolf expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Kev after calming down.
"Are you feeling okay?" Kev asked, gently patting her back.
She replied with a hesitant nod.
At this point, she had come to understand that the ten years' worth of memories she had just gained were built within an illusion she'd been trapped in by the vicious spider. They had nothing to do with reality.
Although those memories were sweet, she had to accept the fact that they were nothing but lies and move on so she could face reality with a staunch back and a sane mind.
"Good. Get on my back. We're getting out of here," Kev said, crouching down in front of her.
At first, there was hesitation in CrimsonSheWolf's eyes, but then it disappeared, and she climbed onto his back.
A while later, they left the den and arrived in a tunnel that led to who knows where.
Kev set her down and cautiously looked around, breathing a sigh of relief when he saw no signs of danger.
That was when CrimsonSheWolf spoke.
"I'm interested in growing stronger and learning what you know about this alien space. Besides my body, I don't have anything else to offer in return, so if you're interested in that kind of thing..."
Her face turned beet red, like a ripe tomato.
"...we can proceed with a mutually beneficial deal."
Kev reached out and pinched her cheeks. He found her irresistibly cute and silly.
"Fool. Did you mistake me for a lecherous pervert? While I do want something in return for what I'll give you, I'm not asking you to sacrifice your body."
His voice was soft, and his gaze was gentle. It tugged at her heartstrings.
Her intense reaction was mostly because of the love and kindness the "Fake Him" had shown her in that dreadfully sweet illusion that felt like it had lasted ten years.
"But what else do I have that could interest you?" she asked.
He pointed at her head.
She grabbed it, confused. "My head?"
Kev nodded without hesitation.
"You're smart. And I need smart people under me. So in exchange for sharing my findings and helping you gain power, I want you to subordinate yourself to me for... let's see... how about five years?"
"Alright." She didn't have a better choice so she readily agreed.
"Agree to this contract and we'll officially be in a leader-subordinate relationship for the next five years," he said, conjuring up a contract using shadow manipulation and handing it to her.
CrimsonSheWolf read the contract carefully and didn't find anything unfair.
According to its contents, he would share his knowledge of the Abyss and help her perform the ritual to become a class holder, granting her the power she desperately sought. In return, she had to diligently work for him for five years. She also couldn't divulge his secrets to anyone.
As long as she upheld her end of the contract, there would be no issues. But if she betrayed him, there would be a price to pay, though the contract ominously left that price unspecified.
She looked up and saw him smiling gently. She wanted to agree, but wasn't sure how.
"Just say you agree," Kev seemed to have read her mind at a glance as he provided her guidance.
"I agree," she said.
The contract dissolved into smoke.
At the same time, she felt a strange tightness in her chest. It felt like a cold serpent had coiled around her heart.
What was this feeling? She glanced at Kev with a questioning gaze.
"It's there just in case. You don't need to worry about it unless you plan to betray me," Kev explained.
"I will never do that," she said firmly.
Following that, Kev gave her a brief summary of the experiences he'd had after the space displacement phenomenon pulled him into the Abyssal Burrow.
"I see. You've had quite the encounters after stepping into this hostile alien space," CrimsonSheWolf said.
"Call it the Abyss. That's what the natives call it," Kev told her.
"Abyss?" she said. "Such a name is indeed fitting for a hellish place like this."
"What's your real name?" Kev asked suddenly. "We're going to be sticking together for a long time, so I'd like to know."
"It's Agatha," she said.
Kev smiled. "Good and virtuous. Not a bad name. Really, not a bad name at all. It suits you."
Her eyes softened. "What about you?" she asked curiously.
"I'm Kev," he replied.
"I've never heard a name like that before. Is it perhaps a nickname?" She inquired.
Kev gave her a nod.
"Yeah, it's short for Kevin. But everyone around me calls me Kev. It's easier on the tongue. You can use that too."
"Hmm, okay, Kev," Agatha said with a small smile.
