Abyss Descension: I Perform Rituals to Evolve In The Apocalyps-Chapter 41: Reunion
Chapter 41 - Reunion
Kev stepped onto the stone bridge and let out a sharp whistle.
Countless pairs of eyes turned to look at him, overflowing with a disturbing hunger in no time.
No sooner had he whistled than he found himself being approached by revenants. It was simply horrifying. Unlike the typical zombies in movies, the revenants of the Abyss didn't stagger around like headless chickens. They ran like marathon winners!
Ratatat!
Agatha opened fire. Not every bullet that escaped the barrel under her control hit the revenants in their weak spots, but some did.
One revenant after another started dropping to the ground like marionettes with their strings cut.
On the other hand, a bow appeared in Kev's hand, and he pulled its string in rapid succession.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Several arrows cut through the air with a sharp whistle. Some burst through the rotten heads of multiple revenants before reaching the end of their flight, while others lodged into decaying flesh that had long stopped feeling anything.
Among the revenants was a four-meter-tall monstrosity. It grabbed one of the smaller revenants like a toy and hurled it at Kev.
He didn't jump out of the way, he merely snorted in disdain.
A thick tendril of shadow burst out from his side, caught the airborne revenant by the ankle, and flung it back in the direction it came from.
Bam!
It struck the four-meter-tall monstrosity like a bus, but the brute barely budged. All it did was aggravate it. Giving Kev a death stare, it began to move. At first, its pace was nothing to worry about, but then it broke into a mad sprint.
Even Agatha couldn't help but fear for Kev's safety as the stone bridge trembled beneath the weight of its steps.
Kev didn't take a single step backwards from his spot. He simply put his bow to work for the tenth time.
The temperature in his surroundings raised by several degrees as wisps of red-hot flame manifested with the pull of the string and quickly coalesced into a blazing fire arrow.
It shot forward and lodged into the creature's face before exploding like a grenade.
Boom!
Half its face was obliterated. Brain matter, chunks of scorched flesh, and shards of eyeball flew through the air. What remained of its face was in flames, and from there the fire quickly spread, engulfing its entire body.
Even as it burned, it continued to charge towards Kev recklessly.
Some revenants brushed past it and caught fire.
Like living torches, they approached relentlessly.
Some dropped dead before they could reach him.
But some didn't, their claws reaching for his chest, his eyes, and his throat.
A few even leaped over their burning comrades, trying to bite his head off in one chomp.
"Off you all go."
Kev waved his hand. A wave of darkness burst out and swept the revenants off the bridge.
Their roars echoed as they plummeted to their deaths.
Kev didn't hear a single body hit the ground even after half a minute.
He could only guess that the bridge was suspended over immeasurable depths.
Only after a full minute did the dull, distant thuds of bodies crashing into the ground finally reach his ears.
Without delay, he activated Shadow Steal and the Corpse Collection skill one after another.
Although the revenants had died far away, his skills weren't limited by distance. As a result, he successfully harvested their shadows and claimed their bodies.
His units of stolen shadows shot past 180, and his Corpse Collection Points jumped to 60.
"If it continues like this," Kev thought, "it won't be long before I get the chance to undergo another upgrade."
Behind him, Agatha stood in awe, her eyes gleaming with admiration.
"Class holders are so cool," she whispered. "They diminish the worth of revenants simply by existing."
But behind the admiration, another emotion flickered in her eyes. Greed. The kind that was all too common among humans.
She was greedy for power. She wanted to become a class holder herself. However, she had no idea how to make that happen. She could only wait for Kev... to fullfill his promise and do it for her.
Kev coolly looked over his shoulder and said, "Come on. Let's go."
Agatha broke into a sprint and quickly caught up to him. A moment later, a flying book flew over. Natasha's voice rang out of it.
"Guys, I'll be going now."
Natasha had a life to live. She couldn't always be there for them. Besides, seeing how much Kev had grown, she felt at ease leaving them to their own devices.
Unless the terrors of the Abyssal Burrows like a mature corpse spider or a homunculus showed up, Kev wouldn't be at risk of death.
Her next words were directed at him.
"Ring me up if you need your doubts answered. I'll respond quickly if I'm awake."
Then, she went away for real, leaving Kev and Agatha by themselves.
They walked over to the door before Kev knocked on it.
"If there's somebody inside, please respond. The revenants have been dealt with. It's safe to come out."
"Kev? Is that you?" A surprisingly familiar voice came from the other side of the door.
"Lena?" Kev's eyes widened.
Hurried footsteps were heard coming closer to the door.

A moment later, the door creaked open, revealing a massive hall.
Inside the hall, several people were gathered.
At the forefront of this group of people stood a beautiful woman with blue eyes and chestnut brown hair that cascaded down her back like a bouquet of roses.
That hairstyle, that exotic face. Kev could never forget her. It was Lena. His housemate.
"Kev, it's really you!" Lena exclaimed.
Overwhelmed with emotion, she rushed forward and hugged him tightly.
"I thought I'd never get to see you again." She said, her voice thick with emotions. It looked like she would break down into tears but she was stronger than that.
"Me too, Lena," Kev whispered back emotionally, hugging her back. "Me too."
