Chapter 490: Battle of Anomalies

“Hahahahaha!”

Uncontrollable laughter bloomed from Ryuk’s lips as his second foot touched the ground—and then…

KAAABOOOOM!

The entire ground beneath him tilted backwards as his body shot forward with terrifying speed, space ripping apart around him.

In an instant, he appeared before Emeris, his claws lashing downward with force enough to drown the world in destruction.

Yet, Emeris didn’t even look at it.

His hand moved to his face, fingers snapping together before he whispered:

“Aethereumalis Forbidden.”

The word resonated at a frequency that instantly shattered the space around them, bending light and sound.

Ryuk felt the air solidify, as if reality itself was holding its breath.

Time stretched thinner than an infinite landscape.

And then—Emeris began an unknown change.

It all started with the remnants of his clothes fading away into nothing.

Following closely was his own skin, peeling off like burning parchment, dispersing into floating Aetheris runes that swirled around him like a storm of dying stars.

His bones fractured, splitting into infinite geometric patterns before collapsing into a singularity of thought.

From the void left behind, his new body emerged.

A skeletal frame with a core woven from glowing Aetheris equations.

His ribcage was a cage of fractal geometry, each bone a self-writing theorem that altered reality by its mere existence.

His right arm was a living writing brush, its edge dripping dark blood for ink while his left arm was a branching fractal blade, radiating a piercing aura of destruction.

His legs no longer existed—below his torso was a vortex of screaming faces, his upper body balancing atop it.

Both of his eyes were missing and in their place were two black holes that sucked in all light.

His jaw unhinged like a serpent’s, but instead of fangs, there was only a dark, yawning abyss, shadows dispersing out from it.

His form had shifted from a once scholarly figure into a living paradox.

“You’ve grown, Ryuk. Faster than I theorized” the voice came—a chorus of a thousand dead entities as High Scholar Emeris turned his hollow, abyssal eyes toward him.

“But you still don’t understand.”

“I don’t control dimensions.”

Ryuk’s eyes flashed as he noticed a bizarre aura unfolding around Emeris’s body, bringing with it a chilling sensation of impending doom that began drowning his senses.

“I AM THEM!”

“Aethereumalis Forbidden: Unfurling of Iotinia Dimension!”

High Scholar Emeris’s brush-hand moved, drawing a single line in the space between them.

In that instant, Ryuk witnessed something unbelievable.

The ground beneath him ceased to exist—not destroyed, but erased from conceptual possibility, along with space and air itself.

He fell into a void of absolute nothingness, where even time itself was seemingly Incapable of existence leaving him lost and confused.

“Where…?”

“Where is this?” He wondered aloud, staring into the endless darkness.

The void wasn’t cold neither warm-it was nothing.

He couldn’t see his own body. It was as if the void had wrapped around him, depriving him of every sense that existed.

Yet, Ryuk’s eyes flared into fiery blue light as he focused his gaze.

CRRRIIISSSSPPP!

A sharp, crisp sound tore through the void—the first sound in eons.

Ryuk clenched his fist.

He couldn’t see, but he could feel it—his body along with all of his might had not been deprived of him and still under his control.

And being the only thing he could feel, it was like the key he needed to get out of here.

RIIIIPPPPLLLEEE!

An unbearably powerful wave of energy burst from Ryuk’s body as his hands clenched into fists.

“RRRAAAAAGHHH!”

With a roar, he punched upward with all his might, smashing straight into the abyssal darkness.

BOOOOM!

CREAAAAAAK!

In that instant, he felt resistance—something struggling to hold him back.

But hold him back?

Hold Ryuk back!?

“CRRRRUMBLE!”

Ryuk roared again, his eyes blazing like twin infernos as his fist shattered through the resistance, revealing a window where reality could still be seen.

In the next moment, his second hand snapped forward, claws gripping the edge of the void.

And then—

SHATTTERRRR!

The sound of glass shattering echoed as Ryuk pulled the dimension apart like paper, tearing through it as he looked down to find High Scholar Emeris standing below, his mouth twisting into a mocking smirk.

“Good one, Emeris. But not enough to take me down!”

Ryuk’s body flickered—he vanished from the torn dimension, appearing instantly behind Emeris before slashing down with devastating speed.

The air in the path of his claws warped instantly into nothingness, yet High Scholar Emeris reacted in an instant slashing out with his fractal blade.

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP!

Reality itself split where claw and blade paseed, the two forces surging toward each other before finally—

KAAAAAABOOOOOOM!

A deafening collision erupted as claw and blade met, the world around them crumbling into nothing but an endless void again.

Yet, Ryuk’s eyes only gleamed more

CRACKK!

CRACKK!

The sound of fractures rang out as High Scholar Emeris’s eyes flashed, watching his blade begin to splinter.

But then—his gaze sharpened.

“VROOOOOOOM!”

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP!

Space itself twisted as Ryuk’s second hand moved, his claw surged forward, aimed straight for Emeris’s skull.

Yet, in that same instant, High Scholar Emeris flashed, and re-appeared a kilometer away, his eyes flaring with light.

‘His Physical Might is beyond me, I can’t afford a close combat.’ He silently thought but then quickly refocus his gaze.

Ryuk took a step—

BOOM!

—and shot forward with world-breaking speed.

But before he could reach him, Emeris’s brush-hand moved even faster, drawing runes and symbols in the air with impossible speed before his lips parted and the chilling chorus once more began.

“Aethereumalis Forbidden: Imaginio!”

“Canvas Of Unreality: Distance Exemplario”

In the next instant those words were uttered, Emeris’ brush swirled, painting a runed horizon as Ryuk felt himself still soaring towards High Scholar Emeris but it didn’t take long for him to notice the one Anomaly.

And that was that no matter how hard he ran, he never really reached him.

It was like…the concept of distance has been erased between him and Emeris, but Emeris was only beginning as Ryuk watched his hand of a brush extended forward and then he began to quickly draw with a bizarre feverish light in his eye’s skull, his grin widening more sadistically with every stroke.

“I have to end this…”
