Chapter 94: Chapter 0094: If We Don’t Kill Them Now, Are We Saving Them for the New Year?

At this moment.

Wang Zheng saw a black river dozens of meters wide ahead. Instantly overjoyed, he shouted, "Friend, there’s a river ahead. If we jump in, we can escape the Earth Demons."

"What kind of river is this? Why is the water black? Are you sure about this? Don’t let it end up being a river made from Earth Demon crap," Lin Fan questioned.

He didn’t even know what to say anymore.

Coming to this unfamiliar place, he had planned to proceed cautiously, slowly improving his cultivation level. But who could have imagined running into this troublemaker? Attracting a few Earth Demons was manageable.

But what the hell is this right now?

So many Earth Demons—how are we supposed to fight them?

Perhaps the moment the Earth Demons came face-to-face with him, he’d be instantly shredded into pieces.

"It’s safe. Jump!" Wang Zheng took the lead, leaping like a fish crossing the Dragon Gate, tracing an elegant arc through the air before landing in the water with a splash and swimming away.

Lin Fan had no choice but to follow and jump in. Upon entering the black river, he was immediately struck by a bone-chilling cold and instinctively channeled his mana to protect himself.

The Earth Demons surged forward like a relentless tide. Upon encountering the black river as an obstacle, they suddenly changed direction and raced along its banks, showing no interest from beginning to end in Wang Zheng or Lin Fan as their targets.

Perhaps, to the Earth Demons, these two Immortal Sect disciples were simply beneath their notice.

Lin Fan peered through the surface of the river at the shadows outside. When he saw the shadows turning away and departing, his heart finally relaxed a little. If those Earth Demons had rushed into the black river, things would have been truly dire.

Not long afterward.

Once he was certain the Earth Demons had fled, Lin Fan crawled out of the black river, soaked from head to toe. He circulated his mana, and his body, like a furnace, instantly dried his damp clothes.

"That was close."

Wang Zheng climbed onto the shore, formed a hand seal, and his drenched clothing dried immediately. It was a simple spell, nothing impressive, but quite practical.

"Friend, I truly apologize for dragging you into this. But I did say we wouldn’t have any issues. I don’t even know where these Earth Demons came from. Perhaps something happened on the Earth Demon Plains that caused a disturbance among them."

"Sigh, who could’ve thought even the outskirts would be so dangerous? It’s better to head back sooner for safety."

Wang Zheng no longer wanted to linger on the Earth Demon Plains; he had assumed staying cautiously in the outskirts would guarantee safety, but to encounter such a calamity—it was simply life-threatening.

Lin Fan glanced back at Wang Zheng without speaking, not even wanting to say a word. But the look in his eyes made Wang Zheng uneasy.

Feeling thoroughly awkward, Wang Zheng changed the subject and said, "By the way, I still don’t know your name. I’m Wang Zheng—Wang as in ’Old Wang next door,’ and Zheng as in ’unyielding iron.’ I’m an Inner Sect disciple of Taiwu Immortal Sect."

Lin Fan hadn’t expected the other party to be a disciple of Taiwu Immortal Sect. He didn’t have much goodwill toward Taiwu Immortal Sect for now. That Feng Sihai guy was an arrogant piece of work already on his must-kill list.

The person before him seemed to be in fairly average condition.

But there was no choice.

The other party’s attitude wasn’t hostile; it made taking action against him feel a bit awkward.

"Do you know Feng Sihai?"

Lin Fan asked as he mentally strategized about finding an opportunity to deal with this guy. However, his current strength wasn’t high enough, and if he were to act, he’d need the right moment; otherwise, there was no way.

"Feng Sihai..." Wang Zheng paused, then replied, "Don’t know him personally, but I’ve heard of him. He’s under Ye Zhen Tian of Zhen Tian Peak—a guy who throws his weight around in the sect because of Ye Zhen Tian’s reputation. Have you got a grudge against him?"

"No grudges—how could there be any? Just asking casually," Lin Fan said with a smile. He didn’t know what sort of relationship Wang Zheng and Feng Sihai had, and it wasn’t necessary to reveal too much. "I’m Lin Fan—no sect or affiliation. You really screwed me over this time, but I won’t hold it against you. However, let me give you a piece of advice. I’m pretty good at reading faces, and your face says trouble—your brow is dark, your features ominous. Anyone hanging around you is bound for danger."

"I’ll be taking my leave now."

Lin Fan didn’t want to keep bantering with Wang Zheng. Someone chased around by Earth Demon hordes couldn’t possibly have good luck. Staying with him would inevitably bring disaster.

Retreat!

Wang Zheng wanted to say something, but when he looked up, Lin Fan was already long gone. He touched his brow and muttered to himself.

"No way, am I really this unlucky?"

As the thought crossed his mind, Wang Zheng shivered all over. Lin Fan had successfully spooked him into heading back as well; he dared not waste time wandering the Earth Demon Plains.

Several days later.

At the Nine Heavens Immortal Sect.

When Lin Fan returned to the sect’s gates, the disciples guarding them were shocked, saying, "You’re back?! We thought you ran off and died outside."

They were genuinely surprised to see Lin Fan return.

They knew full well the situation within the sect.

It wasn’t unheard of for disciples to take off while the Sect Leader was away.

"Why would I need to run? This place suits me fine. I only stayed outside for a short while these past days—not far from the sect," Lin Fan replied.

He certainly wasn’t going to tell them he’d ventured alone to the Earth Demon Plains.

If he revealed that, they’d be scared to death.

"Has the Sect Leader returned?" Lin Fan asked.

"No."

The disciples guarding the gates were just as curious about why the Sect Leader had been gone so long.

This had never happened before.

Lin Fan frowned in contemplation, sensing that something was amiss. The Sect Leader had gone to Taiwu Immortal Sect—could he have run into trouble?

Unable to figure it out, he headed deeper into the sect.

Suddenly.

An unwelcome voice called from the sect’s entrance.

"Your Sect Leader is back."

The voice was familiar, always carrying that arrogant tone.

Lin Fan turned to look.

The gate-guarding disciples were visibly panicked as they faced the newcomer, retreating step by step. Their gaze remained fixed on the person held in the newcomer’s hand.

Feng Sihai strode forward, exuding domineering arrogance. With a casual flick of his hand, he tossed Fang Jiuzhen toward the disciples of Nine Heavens Immortal Sect.

"Take care of your Sect Leader. You’re lucky—Brother Ye spared you. However, the condition for this mercy is your Sect Leader’s disrespect toward my Brother, for which he received due punishment."

"That being said, his current condition is entirely his own doing."

Feng Sihai’s gaze was sharp and intimidating. Any disciple who met his eyes instinctively lowered theirs in fear.

Crunch, crunch!

Lin Fan’s fingers clenched tightly. He was brimming with rage.

He didn’t have deep feelings toward Fang Jiuzhen, but the sheer arrogance of the opponent made his blood boil.

Glancing at the surrounding disciples.

Lacking Spirit Roots and being unable to cultivate as an Immortal, he could only swallow his frustration in facing true cultivators.

Feng Sihai found the disciples utterly boring. Even their Sect Leader had ended up in this state, yet they continued cowering like turtles. He waved dismissively.

"Let’s go."

The two disciples accompanying him raised their heads high in arrogant defiance.

Their pride in their major sect and disdain for the weak was palpable.

"Quick, carry the Sect Leader inside for treatment," Lin Fan instructed.

Soon, a group of disciples carried the Sect Leader away.

Lin Fan was just another ordinary disciple in Nine Heavens Immortal Sect, so nobody paid much attention to whether he had left or not.

He watched the three departing figures. Once certain he wasn’t being observed.

He quietly disappeared from sight, stalking Feng Sihai. If he didn’t kill this guy, then what—leave him for the New Year?

Damn it!

He’d had enough of this guy.

Always suppressing his anger—he worried he’d explode from holding it all in.
