Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 241: Heartfelt Conversation
The house felt whole again.
Ashton had just returned from spending the weekend at Lydia’s, and now he sat comfortably on the couch, his small hands gripping a glass of juice as he swung his legs absentmindedly. Delphinia sat beside him, watching him closely.
Oh, how she missed him.
It wasn’t unusual for Ashton to go off for weekends with family—he had done it many times before, to his grandparents. But this time felt different.
"So?" she prompted gently. "How was it?"
Ashton took a sip of his juice before setting the glass down on the coffee table. "It was... fine." He hesitated, shifting slightly as if unsure how to explain further.
Delphinia tilted her head, smiling at him. "Just fine?"
He sighed, playing with the hem of his sweater. "It was nice. She was really trying, I guess. She made my favorite breakfast, and we played some board games."
"That sounds good," Delphinia said, nodding encouragingly. "Did you have fun?"
Ashton nodded slowly but then turned his gaze down to his lap. "Yeah. But..."
Delphinia waited patiently, sensing he was working through something internally.
He finally looked up at her with uncertain eyes. "Do you... do you hate it when I go to her house?"
The question made Delphinia pause. Her heart softened as she reached for his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Why would I hate that, sweetheart?" she asked, her voice calm and warm.
Ashton bit his lip, hesitating before answering. "Because... I don’t know. It kinda feels like before... when I didn’t want a sibling. I was scared you’d feel the same way. Like maybe you don’t want to share me with her."
Delphinia let out a soft chuckle, shaking her head as she pulled him a little closer. "Oh, honey. That’s not the same thing at all."
He looked up at her, clearly waiting for an explanation, so she continued, brushing some of his messy hair away from his forehead. "When you were worried about having a sibling, it was because you were afraid of losing attention, right?"
He nodded slowly. "Yeah."
She smiled, tucking her legs under herself as she turned to face him fully. "But when it comes to you visiting your mom, it’s different. I know she’s important to you. And you don’t have to feel guilty for wanting to spend time with her. It doesn’t change anything between us."
Ashton studied her expression, as if trying to detect any hesitation in her words. "Really?"
"Really," Delphinia confirmed with a firm nod. "You know, just because you love your mom doesn’t mean you love me any less. Your heart has room for all the people who care about you. And I’m always going to be here, no matter what."
His expression wavered for a second before he leaned into her, wrapping his arms around her waist. She immediately hugged him back, rubbing his back in soothing circles.
"I just didn’t want to hurt your feelings," he mumbled against her shoulder. "You’ve done so much for me."
Delphinia’s heart ached at his words, but in a warm way, like the kind of ache that came with loving someone deeply. "Oh, sweetheart," she murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of his head. "You don’t have to protect me from this. I’m just happy you have more people who love you."
Ashton pulled back slightly, looking up at her. "You promise?"
"I promise," she said firmly. "You don’t have to choose between us, okay?"
A relieved smile spread across his face. "Okay."
They sat there for a moment, just enjoying the comfort of each other’s presence. Eventually, Ashton picked up his juice again and took another sip.
Delphinia chuckled. "So, what else did you do at your mom’s?"
Ashton grinned, his previous worry now gone. "Oh! She actually tried to cook dinner herself. It was kinda... well... burnt."
Delphinia laughed. "Burnt?"
"Yeah. But she tried so hard not to show it. She kept eating it like it was fine," he said, giggling. "I had to pretend it wasn’t bad too." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"Oh, that poor woman." Delphinia shook her head in amusement. "Maybe she needs some cooking lessons."
"Maybe," Ashton agreed, still giggling. "Can you teach her?"
Delphinia blinked, surprised by the suggestion. "Me?"
"Yeah! You’re the best cook," he said confidently.
She tapped her chin, considering it. "Hmm. I don’t know. Do you think she’d actually want to learn from me?"
Ashton thought about it for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah. She’s trying really hard. And maybe if you help her, she won’t burn food next time."
Delphinia smiled, touched by his suggestion. "Well, if she’s open to it, I guess I wouldn’t mind."
Ashton beamed. "That would be awesome!"
She reached out and ruffled his hair. "Alright, then. But next time, if she burns something, you don’t have to pretend it tastes good. Just tell her nicely, okay?"
Ashton laughed. "Okay, okay."
They continued talking, Ashton sharing little details of his weekend, from playing games to watching movies, and Delphinia listening attentively, happy to see him so at ease.
By the time the night stretched on, Ashton yawned, his head resting against her arm. Delphinia smiled, stroking his hair gently.
"Alright, bedtime for you," she whispered.
"Mmm... five more minutes?" he mumbled sleepily.
She chuckled, shifting to help him stand. "Come on, kiddo. You can tell me the rest of the story tomorrow."
Ashton sighed dramatically but stood up, letting her guide him towards his room. Just before entering, he turned back to her, a small but grateful smile on his face.
"I love you, Delphinia."
Her chest tightened at his words, warmth spreading through her. She bent down, pressing a kiss to his forehead. "I love you too, sweetheart."
With that, he slipped into his room, leaving Delphinia standing in the hallway, a deep sense of peace settling over her. She had worried about how Ashton would feel about balancing his time between her and Lydia, but tonight had reassured her.
No matter what, they were family.
And that was never going to change.
