Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 39: Unwanted Invitations
The house felt peaceful, with only the clockโs soft ticking and the gentle sound of their steps filling the quiet space. Ashton immediately headed to his room, his small figure disappearing up the stairs without a word. ๐ป๐๐๐ฆ๐ธ๐๐ท๐โด๐ฃ๐ฆ๐.๐ธโด๐ฎ
Delphinia watched him go, her lips curving into a faint smile. She wanted to believe today had been a small step forward. With a soft sigh, she headed to her own room.
Delphinia placed her bag on the chair and sank onto the edge of the bed, letting herself relax for a moment. But her thoughts were restless, and after a while, she decided to head downstairs again.
As she moved down the steps, her eyes fell on Sienna, who held an elegant black envelope with gold trim. "Whatโs that?" Delphinia asked curiously.
Sienna stopped in her track, her eyes darting to the envelope before she looked up and smiled. "An invitation," she replied, holding it up slightly for Delphinia to see.
She raised an eyebrow. "Oh?" Her voice was calm but hinted at curiosity as she made her way down the last few steps, eyes locked on the envelope.
Sienna approached her, holding out the envelope. "Here. It came a while ago," she said casually.
Delphinia hesitated before taking it, her fingers brushing the smooth surface of the envelope. She glanced at Sienna. "Can I even look at this? Isnโt it for Evander?"
Sienna tilted her head, her expression calm but amused. "If itโs for Mr. Walton, itโs for you too. Youโre his wife, remember?"
Delphinia forced a small smile at that, the word wife settling uncomfortably in her chest. "Right," she muttered, more to herself than Sienna.
Sienna gave her a quick nod and walked away, leaving Delphinia standing alone in the hallway. With a sigh, she turned and made her way to the living room, the envelope still clutched in her hand.
Delphinia sank into the plush couch, her back straight and her legs crossed as she studied the envelope. Its elegant design seemed mocking, as if flaunting its importance. She carefully broke the seal and unfolded the contents, her eyes scanning the text.
Her chest tightened as the words on the page jumped out at her:
Kai Robinson & Adalaine Carter
Engagement Party Invitation
Delphiniaโs chest tightened as a wave of emotions hit herโanger, disgust, and a flicker of bitterness she couldnโt suppress. A short laugh escaped her, her fingers clenching the paper as if blaming it for her frustration.
"Tch," she hissed, shooting a sharp glare at the names like theyโd vanish under her stare. The fancy calligraphy and pristine design only added to her frustration. Of course, she thought bitterly.
It wouldnโt surprise her if they just wanted to see her lose itโangry, crying, jealous, whateverโbut she refused to give them the satisfaction.
But despite knowing that, she couldnโt shake the sting. The invitation felt like a slap in the face, a cruel reminder of everything she had endured. Her hands trembled slightly as she flipped the card open.
Her hand slapped the paper against her thigh that didnโt help her mood.
"What are you doing?"
His voice made her freeze, hand halfway through its motion. She looked up to see him, casually leaning against the doorframe, his eyes watching her with a curiousity.
"Nothing," she said quickly, straightening and placing the invitation on the table.
Evander raised a brow, clearly unconvinced. He walked across the room, unhurried as always, and stood before her. Without a word, he reached for the invitation.
"Hey!" Delphinia protested, but he ignored her, unfolding the paper and scanning its contents. But itโs for him anyway....
After a moment, he let out a low chuckle and tossed the invitation back onto the table. "Oh," he muttered, a hint of mockery in his tone. "They sent it here too."
Delphiniaโs eyes flickered between him and the invitation, her jaw tightening. "Why would they evenโ"
"Itโs your ex-husbandโs engagement party," Evander said bluntly, cutting her off.
Delphinia opened her mouth to retort but stopped herself, her mind racing. Of course, he knows. Heโs aware of everything about me. Instead, she sighed and muttered, "Yeah."
Evander studied her for a moment, his sharp gaze taking in her expression. "Do you want to go?" he asked suddenly.
She whipped her head up, glaring at him with a look of disbelief. "Why would you even ask me that?"
He gave a casual shrug. "Just wondering."
"It wasnโt sent to me anyway," Delphinia said coldly, crossing her arms. "It was for you."
Evander smirked faintly. "And as my wife, that means itโs for you too."
"I donโt care about it," Delphinia shot back.
She froze, trying to keep her voice steady, but the small tremor gave her away. Her cheeks burned as Evanderโs smirk widened. Not that she caredโor so she told herself.
"Neither do I," Evander replied easily, his lips curving into a lazy smile as he turned to leave.
Delphinia glared at his retreating figure, her hands curling into fists. She glanced back at the invitation, and just seeing it made her blood boil all over again.. In one swift motion, she grabbed it off the table and threw it to the floor.
She stomped on the paper, relishing the crunch as it crumpled. Grinding her heel into it, she acted like she could crush it out of existence.
A quiet chuckle stopped her in her tracks. She spun around to see Evander on the staircase, leaning casually on the railing.
"Whatโs so funny?" she snapped, her voice sharper than she intended.
Evanderโs grin widened slightly. "You clearly care more than you say."
Delphiniaโs mouth opened to retort, but no words came out. She clenched her jaw, her face flushing with a mixture of anger and embarrassment.
Evander chuckled again, the sound light and almost teasing, before turning and disappearing up the stairs.
Delphinia stared after him, her chest rising and falling with deep breaths as she tried to calm herself. She couldnโt help but smirk as she looked at the ruined invitation, satisfied with her work.
"I wish your marriage goes up in flames!"
