Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 59: Can’t Hide
Delphinia moved quietly around the kitchen, her feet making soft taps against the tiled floor. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, mixing with the faint scent of eggs and butter sizzling on the stove. Her hands didn’t falter as she flipped the pancakes and arranged them neatly on the plates. A sense of peace washed over her as memories from the night before surfaced.
The conversation had been intense, there was a strange sense of comfort. For the first time in a while, Delphinia felt a spark of connection—not just with Ashton but with the idea of family. Who would’ve thought that her effort to avoid Evander would lead to such a tender moment? She shook her head with a soft smile, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
The peaceful morning was soon interrupted by the sound of small footsteps padding down the hall. Delphinia turned to see Ashton as he entered the dining hall.
"Good morning," Delphinia greeted warmly, setting a plate of pancakes on the table.
Ashton blinked at her before shuffling to his seat. "Morning."
"How did you sleep?" she asked, pouring a glass of milk and placing it in front of him.
Ashton looked up at her with a small smile. "I slept fine. What about you?"
Delphinia chuckled softly as she sat across from him. "I slept well too, probably because I had you as my little roommate."
Ashton grinned shyly, taking a bite of his pancake. "You should sleep in my room more often, then," he said innocently.
Delphinia laughed, shaking her head. "We’ll see about that."
It was a rare, lighthearted moment, a refreshing break from the emotional weight they’d been carrying. But the peace didn’t last long. She heard the heavier steps approach, and she couldn’t help but tense as her hands tightening slightly around her coffee mug. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Evander entered the dining hall, his mere presence making the space feel smaller. His sharp gaze immediately found Delphinia, who quickly averted her eyes, focusing instead on cutting a piece of her pancake.
"Good morning," Evander greeted, his deep voice filling the room as he took a seat at the table.
"Morning, Dad," Ashton replied cheerfully, clearly unaffected by the tension.
Delphinia muttered a quiet "Good morning" without looking up, hoping to keep the interaction brief.
Evander had barely settled into his chair when Ashton, totally missing the awkward vibe between the adults, looked up at him with bright eyes. "Did you know Delphinia slept in my room last night?"
She paused, fork halfway to her mouth, resisting the urge to bury her face in her hands. Of all the things Ashton could’ve said...
Evander leaned back in his chair, a small, amused smile playing on his lips. "Well, now I know," he teased, a grin tugging at his lips.
Delphinia felt her face grow even hotter. She wished she could disappear. Ashton, completely oblivious to her discomfort, continued eating happily.
The rest of breakfast passed in relative silence, much to Delphinia’s relief. As soon as Ashton finished, he excused himself, announcing that he was going to find Goldie. Delphinia smiled at him, relieved for even a momentary escape.
But her relief was short-lived. Evander didn’t follow Ashton out of the room. Instead, he stayed seated, watching her with an intensity that made her stomach flutter uneasily.
Delphinia quickly gathered the dishes, eager to busy herself and avoid his gaze. Her steps were quick as she took the plates to the kitchen. She could feel Evander’s presence behind her, the weight of his gaze following her every step.
As she began loading the dishwasher, she heard his footsteps approach. She tensed as he came to stand beside her, his towering figure impossible to ignore.
"I thought you were sleeping in the living room last night," he remarked.
Delphinia didn’t look at him. "Please move," she said quietly, gesturing for him to step aside so she could load the next dish.
But Evander didn’t move. Instead, he leaned slightly against the counter, effectively blocking her path. Delphinia’s hands tightened around the plate she was holding. Inside, she wished he would just leave her alone. She hadn’t been able to look at him since their kiss, and now, with him standing so close, her resolve was crumbling.
After a long pause, she placed the plate in the dishwasher and straightened up, finally turning to face him. "Can you let me through?" she asked, hoping her voice didn’t waver.
But Evander didn’t step back. Instead, he leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper as he spoke near her ear. "I know you’ve been avoiding me," he said, his breath warm against her skin. "But how long do you think you can keep it up? You can’t hide in Ashton’s room forever, can you?"
Delphinia’s breath hitched, and her fingers instinctively gripped the fabric of her pants tightly. Being this close to him made her chest tighten, and her heart beat so loudly she thought he could hear it. She bit her lip, unsure of how to respond.
His hand grazed her cheek, the light but intentional touch sending a shiver through her. His lips curved into a faint smile as he straightened up, his eyes locked on hers. "I’ll see you later," he said casually before turning and walking away, leaving her standing there, completely flustered.
Delphinia stood frozen for a moment, her mind racing. Her cheeks burned, and her heart felt like it was trying to escape her chest. She pressed a hand against her face, trying to cool her flushed skin.
Why did he always have this effect on her? She hated how easily he got under her skin, how he seemed to know exactly what to say to leave her flustered. With a frustrated sigh, she turned back to the dishwasher, determined to focus on the task at hand and push the encounter out of her mind.
No matter how much she tried to focus, but his words and the warmth of his hand stayed with her.
