Chapter 78: Goodnight kiss
But Shin didn’t even glance her way. Not once.
His gaze remained locked on Yeri the entire time, commenting on her snack choices with a seriousness usually reserved for international board meetings.
The girl who snapped the photo was stunned when her post started gaining traction.
Curious netizens began asking: Who is he? Why is he hiding his face? A celebrity on a secret date?
Sensing an opportunity, she uploaded a short video clip: the mysterious man never sparing a glance at the hot girl nearby, his eyes solely focused on his girlfriend.
He had a chance to sneak a look since he was wearing a mask, but he didn’t.
Romantic hearts across the internet swooned.
---
Back in the car, Shin handed Yeri her phone with a neatly organized schedule on display. It included her medicine names, timing, and even dietary reminders.
It didn’t look like a quick note. It looked like a professional chart written by a doctor.
Clearly, Shin hadn’t just picked up her prescriptions. He’d researched them, cross-checked, and created a proper care routine.
Yeri was stunned by how Shin Keir managed to create a detailed medicine schedule in just a few minutes without even looking at the prescription for reference. When she asked him about it, he simply said, "I already looked at it once."
He wasn’t bragging. He was just stating a fact.
Yeri blinked in disbelief. If it were her, she’d need a comfortable desk with a cup of coffee while internally complaining how doctors writing are like ancient scribbles.
Then again, she thought, This explains why he’s successful. No wonder he’s a revered CEO.
If only she had his brain, she’d be laughing through her exams instead of crying out of stress.
Yeri looked at it, feeling... complicated.
She had told herself over and over that maybe he was just curious about her. Maybe this relationship was born out of boredom or a passing interest.
But would someone like that go so far just to ensure her well-being?
"Are you not going to eat?" Shin asked, breaking her thoughts.
"I’ll eat when I’m back in my dorm," she said quietly.
"I thought you were starving. Come on, eat now," he urged, watching her carefully.
Seeing the seriousness in his face, she gave in and peeled the banana.
What a boring snack, she thought as she chewed.
Then she glanced at her watch and jumped. "It’s late! I have to go back!"
Shin nodded, but before she could move, he leaned forward and kissed her.
Caught off guard, Yeri blinked rapidly. She had just eaten. Wasn’t he disgusted?
Apparently not. Shin didn’t seem fazed at all and even deepened the kiss.
Afterward, she pushed him back slightly, glaring.
"There are traffic and patrolling police around here even at this hour! What if we get caught doing something indecent? How will you explain yourself?"
Shin chuckled softly, clearly unbothered. "I can’t even kiss my girlfriend goodnight? We hardly get to see each other."
Kiss goodnight... It was honestly hard to believe that someone like Shin Keir had actual romantic bones in his body.
As Yeri walked back toward her dorm, Shin didn’t take his eyes off her.
His frown returned.
Normally, she would be jogging or sprinting her way in, full of energy. But tonight, she was dragging her feet. Even earlier, he’d noticed how she moved as if her limbs were heavy.
He sighed. It must be another episode of her chronic illness.
Thankfully, there were tonics and supplements in that paper bag. All he could do now was hope they helped.
And if not, he’d just add another section to that care schedule next time.
---
A few days later, Shin discovered something unexpected, Tristan had actually helped arrange for Father Ram’s discharge from the private hospital.
No one else knew about the exorcism attempt at the villa. As far as Shin was concerned, only he and Secretary Yun had been aware. And Secretary Yun wasn’t the type to gossip about personal matters. That could only mean one thing: Tristan had been keeping tabs on him.
That realization didn’t sit well.
Even so, Tristan had been oddly absent for the past few days. Shin tried to reach him several times but kept getting vague responses or nothing at all.
Secretary Yun confirmed that Tristan had gone on a business trip, but even he wasn’t sure if it was in another city or abroad.
Annoyed and suspicious, Shin finally sent a short message: "Stay out of my personal affairs."
---
At the company’s underground parking lot, Secretary Yun trailed closely behind Shin, his steps cautious. He could feel the heavy tension in the air. His boss was clearly in a bad mood again because of his cousin.
Still, Secretary Yun’s conscience was clear. He had nothing to do with Tristan’s interference. He genuinely had no idea how Tristan had known about the old priest.
Just as they were nearing Shin’s car, a figure suddenly sprang out from behind a column.
Secretary Yun instinctively moved forward, nearly raising a foot to kick until he realized the figure wasn’t trying to attack. Just desperate.
"CEO Keir! Please, give me a minute just hear me out, okay?!" the woman cried out, her voice cracking with emotion.
Secretary Yun immediately blocked her path and stepped in front of his boss. Upon a closer look, recognition dawned.
Lucia Hera.
She had been fired just a few weeks ago after deliberately delaying the IT department’s report and causing a scene at Café Zhillion. Her recklessness had even led to Miss Zhi getting scalded on the leg.
"Miss Hera," Secretary Yun said firmly, "as HR has already explained, your dismissal was due to misconduct. Please don’t cause further trouble here."
But Lucia didn’t back down. Her eyes were locked on Shin Keir, and she made no effort to hide her determination.
Despite the messy hair and flustered expression, Secretary Yun could see through her. Her makeup was flawless. Her outfit was a tight, low-cut dress paired with high heels, it was no accident. She wasn’t there to plead innocence. She was playing a different game entirely.
Clearly, she had learned nothing from the consequences of her actions.
Secretary Yun sighed in exasperation. During the internal re-evaluation, he’d uncovered more about her than what she had been fired for.
Lucia had never passed the hiring process fairly, she’d gotten in through nepotism. A relative with a managerial post had pulled strings to get her hired.
What made it worse was that she had later been involved in inappropriate relationships with not one, but two married men in the company, both of whom also held positions of authority. All three were also quietly removed.
KGG was a massive conglomerate, and unfortunately, such cases weren’t always easy to catch in time.
Lucia stood trembling but defiant, eyes wide with desperation. She insisted she was innocent and even came up with her own version of events, a version where she was the real victim.
"CEO Keir, please, you have to believe me...it wasn’t me, I didn’t do it on purpose!" she cried out, her voice hoarse from emotion. "It was that scheming café server! She purposely hurt herself just to get your attention!"
Her words spilled like water from a broken dam. Her entire body trembled as she clutched the hem of her dress, tears streaking her mascara. "I was framed! She really did it on purpose to ruin me!"
At that time, Lucia had no idea that Shin Keir was acquainted with Yeri since she had been asked to leave the cafe, only the remaining KGG employees were aware of it.
But for some reason, in her mind: that incident, that girl caused her downfall.
Of course, she couldn’t easily accept being fired, not when her entire plan revolved around climbing the corporate ladder, straight to Shin Keir’s side.
She had sacrificed so much for this opportunity. If her family found out she lost her job, she feared they’d marry her off to some wealthy, elderly man to save face.
This was her last gamble.
"Did you already call security?" Shin asked calmly, his tone unreadable.
Secretary Yun nodded tightly. "Yes, boss. They’re on the way."
But before another word could be exchanged, Lucia suddenly lunged forward.
She dropped to her knees, scrambling toward Shin Keir like a madwoman trying to catch a moving train. Her fingers brushed against the tip of his shoe as she tried to cling to him, wailing, "Please! Just listen to me! Give me a chance!"
Shin immediately stepped back, cold and precise, avoiding her grasp. Her fingertips barely grazed his polished shoe.
Secretary Yun turned pale. He surged forward in panic, grabbing Lucia by the arms and dragging her away from his boss. But she flailed like a woman possessed, crying, screeching, her limbs wild as she tried to latch onto Shin Keir again.
To make matters worse, the scene was unfolding in the company parking lot, visible to several employees arriving or leaving.
Shin Keir stared at his shoe like it had been smeared with blood. The veins on his forehead bulged. He didn’t say a word, but the air around him dropped to freezing.
Just then, security finally arrived and swiftly restrained Lucia. She screamed, kicked, and sobbed as they pulled her away.
"Boss," Secretary Yun said carefully, trying to salvage what remained of the situation, "we can stop by the usual store for you to change your shoes."
He knew better than anyone how much Shin Keir despised being touched, let alone by some crazy person. And when it came to his obsessive cleanliness, even a speck of dust was unforgivable.
In truth, Lucia Hera was lucky she didn’t manage to throw herself on his leg. Otherwise, Secretary Yun might have once again witnessed someone being literally launched a few meters across the pavement.
To this day, it still baffled him how Yeri Zhi managed to break through every iron gate, red flag, psychological minefield, and boundary Shin Keir ever had.
Over the years, he had seen many women try. Some acted delicate and sweet. Some were cunning and seductive. There were innocent types, smart and career-driven women, and elegant socialites like Yeri Zhi.
But not one of them ever made it past Shin’s indifference.
And yet... somehow, Yeri Zhi had.
