Affinity: Chaos-Chapter 1821: Getting Too Complacent
Inside the mountain.
The scene before Grey wasn't the one he expected, rather, he was welcomed by a strange sight.
The group was surprised to find out that the bright light isn't caused by the sun, rather, there was a large orb hanging above their heads in a large open cave. From first glance, the cave looked to be around a hundred and fifty square meters. Grey focused his attention on the orb, he tried to probe it, but the second his spiritual senses got close, he felt his heart palpitate as a great sense of danger washed over him.
"Don't try to send your spiritual senses towards the orb."
City Lord Vaughn's warning floated into Grey's ears. Grey turned to look at the City Lord who only nodded in response after warning Grey. Not just Grey, the other two City Lords were also about to investigate the strange glowing orb before hearing his warning.
The City Lord didn't wait for them to ask before explaining to them, "This place is very dangerous. Don't be fooled by the peace."
Grey didn't even need anyone to warn him about this. With the sense of danger he felt from the glowing orb, he knew not to take this place lightly.
One of the other City Lords turned to City Lord Vaughn, "What do we do now?"
"You can all see the only place worth our time in this place other than that damned orb hanging above us."
His words weren't unexpected, other than the orb hanging above them, there was a small courtyard present in this place. It was obvious that it used to be the living residence of some expert.
City Lord Vaughn led the group towards the courtyard. After getting to the front of the courtyard, he paused, before signaling for Lord Harry to unleash an attack towards the courtyard.
Lord Harry did as told, but to his surprise, the expected impact from his attack never came, in fact, his attack never got to land on anything. The second it got within an inch inside the courtyard, it was instantly obliterated.
The others sucked in a cold breath, Grey was not an exception. The energy he sensed that suddenly appeared to destroy Lord Harry's attack came out of nowhere.
"Another hidden array formation!" One of the City Lords with the group exclaimed. If not for Lord Harry's attack being dealt with by the strange energy, he would've never noticed that this place was covered by an array formation. He couldn't help but sense his heart race. If he had rushed inside, there's a chance that he might be dead by now.
Looking around, they saw a few skeletons lying on the ground of the courtyard. From how they all sprawled in different locations, it's obvious that these were people who had previously come to explore this place but were killed by this strange array formation.
"This Old man found a way to get through this array formation, but he'll need the assistance of all four of you. Hence the reason I invited everyone here." City Lord Vaughn explained. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Hearing that City Lord Vaughn has a way to get through the array formation, the other two City Lords, as well as Lord Harry all heaved a sigh of relief. They could see a few skeletons, and to be honest, none of them wanted to be added to the list.
City Lord Vaughn gave them all instructions which they followed. They each had to stay on each of the four sides of the courtyard, while City Lord Vaughn flew to the top of the courtyard.
Floating above the courtyard, City Lord Vaughn's expression turned serious as even his aura changed. A powerful energy wave spread out with him in the center. He started making a series of hand seals, and after a few seconds of making hand seals, his fingers were locked together as he roared.
"Now!"
Grey, Lord Harry, and the other two City Lords were all informed by City Lord Vaughn what to do after he was done making these seals. The second he finished it, the others started to make the same hand seals simultaneously. According to what City Lord Vaughn told them, they had to make sure they were in sync. Even if the group were strangers, getting to their current cultivation stages meant they were all experienced. It wasn't difficult for all four to use the same hand seals in sync. After completing the hand seal, a change occurred in the courtyard.
The previously quiet looking courtyard disappeared, and in front of them was a place filled with danger. The number of bones they saw actually tripled. Everyone sucked in a cold breath when they saw this, as they felt shivers down their spines.
Grey was not an exception to this feeling, even with his attainment in array formations, he was genuinely stumped by this one. If given enough time he knew that he could crack it, but he didn't know how long it would take. At the moment, he had little to no way to deal with it.
'I need to be more careful.'
To a certain extent, his current strength made him a little complacent as he didn't believe there's anything in here that would put his life in danger. In fact, since finding out that there were no Half God Plane experts in this world, and knowing they didn't have a concept of the space element, he felt there was nothing that could put him in danger. This array formation reminded him that there were still things that could handle him in this place.
'Who could create such a place?'
Although he was a little apprehensive after realizing the dangers, his curiosity has been piqued. Whoever created this place is most likely even more heaven-defying than Jacob Vaergahl. At least Grey didn't feel this sense of apprehension after entering the array formation. And he didn't even enter this one before he felt this way which showed just how much more dangerous this array formation is.
City Lord Vaughn's voice suddenly echoed.
"Everyone focus, this is only the start."
