The new recruit smiled, "I slept well yesterday, not tired."

"Young people are full of energy." The veteran soldier stretched lazily and stood up, glancing back at the vibrant nightlife of the Inner City, "Normally at this time, I'd be in a bar, dancing with a girl... These days are really tough."

The new recruit looked towards the Border District on the other side of the rust wall, where there were no high-rises, yet it was filled with neon lights, the blue-purple glow flowing through the large streets, all emanating from bar and club signs.

He sighed, "Even rats in the Border District have nightlife, we might be the most miserable people in New Moon City. Once these rats are all dead, we'll no longer have to be on duty."

The veteran soldier showed a mysterious smile, "Rats have their advantage, you have no idea how cheap they can be. I once dated a single mom from the Border District; she came out to sell herself to gather money for her child's milk powder. Her figure..."

The veteran soldier drew two backward S-shapes in the air with his hands, grinning lewdly, "It's not an exaggeration, it's really like that! Guess how much? Just 200 for a night!"

The new recruit was both surprised and envious, "That cheap? Just 200?"

The veteran soldier laughed loudly, "200 is a sky-high price for these rats! You didn't see how grateful she was to me, she would accept anything I suggested."

"So, you hope these rats die off? I don't agree, I hope the Border District exists forever~"

Suddenly, the new recruit thought of a long-circulated saying in New Moon City, and he slowly recited it, "The Border District is Hell for Border District people, the Border District is Heaven for Inner City people."

The veteran soldier patted his shoulder, smiled as he gazed at the nightlife of the Border District, "Yes, and we are in Heaven."

The two chatted and laughed, making the night feel not so long.

While they were enthusiastically talking dirty jokes, the faint sound of engines roared from afar.

Beams from headlights tore through the darkness, intertwining chaotically like dragons piercing the night sky.

A few heavy motorcycles came speeding from the end of the street, stopping about a hundred meters away from the rust wall.

There lay a suspended laser barricade, signifying the rust wall's defensive system's firepower exclusion zone.

The veteran soldier picked up the binoculars and looked at the motorcyclists. Seeing the red wolf head insignias embroidered on their clothes, he muttered, "Wolf Assault Thugs."

The new recruit frowned and asked, "Should we sound the alarm?"

The veteran soldier sneered, "Sound the damn alarm, these idle thugs often come near the rust wall to cruise, sometimes even spitting at us."

"Let these trash make noise, anyway, they won't have the guts to enter the firepower exclusion zone."

The veteran soldier's words came true, none of the Wolf Assault motorcyclists crossed the laser barricade, they just parked their bikes in the safe zone and smoked.

The veteran soldier said mockingly, "See, these trash can only act tough in the Border District. What Raven's Nest, what Wolf Assault, what bullshit King of the Borderlands, just the rats' self-entertainment."

"Vroom—"

Just after the veteran soldier spoke, there was another roar of engines, louder and more concentrated this time.

Another group of Wolf Assault motorcyclists appeared, joining their earlier arriving companions, also stopping outside the firepower exclusion zone, silently gazing at the rust wall.

"Vroom vroom—"

Engine noises continued endlessly, more and more motorcycles appeared, more and more Wolf Assault members gathered, in the distance the overlapping beams from the headlights illuminated the dark streets like daylight.

All those Wolf Assault thugs gazed at the rust wall, but too far to see details, yet their dense formation still brought a sense of oppression.

"Uh..." The new recruit, inexperienced, tentatively asked, "Is it common for so many thugs to gather outside the rust wall?"

The veteran soldier squinted, his expression becoming rarely serious, "No, such a scale is uncommon, I've hardly seen... What do they want?"

New recruit: "Should we ask the command center?"

The veteran soldier pondered for a moment, nodded, and opened the communicator, "Rust Wall Command Center, this is Patrol Station at Middle Section of M17 Area. We've observed a large gathering of thugs, visually confirmed as Wolf Assault members, should we disperse them?"

Communicator: "Patrol Station at Middle Section of M17 Area, have they entered the firepower exclusion zone?"

Veteran soldier: "No, they are all outside the firepower exclusion zone."

Communicator: "You should re-read Chapter 2, Article 7 of the Rust Wall Patrol Manual, soldier."

The communicator hung up unilaterally.

The veteran soldier felt embarrassed, regretting listening to this newcomer, what a redundant action.

The gist was — don't fucking care about what's outside the firepower exclusion zone.

The existence of the rusty wall was to isolate the Border District and protect the Inner City, that's all.

If people from the Border District breach the firepower exclusion zone, they can be either driven away or shot dead depending on the situation.

As for matters outside the firepower exclusion zone, regardless of what the thugs are doing, be it cursing, provoking, or gathering, don't pay any attention to them. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Even if two groups with heavy weapons fought a bloody civil war, it would have nothing to do with the patrol soldiers — unless those thugs shot towards the rust wall.

Hopefully, that call won't leave a bad impression on the commander. The veteran soldier thought.

While the veteran soldier worried about his future, the new recruit holding the binoculars suddenly asked, "Hey, who's that tall woman in black?"

The veteran soldier picked up his binoculars and looked over, quickly finding the person the new recruit mentioned.

She was too conspicuous among the Wolf Assault group, very tall, taller than many of the male thugs present, wearing a long black leather trench coat with wolf-like mane decorations at the collar.

Her black long hair flowed like ink, her dark purple eyes constantly flickering coldly under the surrounding vehicle lights, reflecting a wolf-like eerie glow.

Wherever the woman passed, the Wolf Assault thugs made way for her, as if parted by an invisible hand.

"Damn!" The veteran soldier's face changed, "It's the Wolf King!"
