After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 13: 18,188,180
The box was filled with things.
There were gifts Shane Jennings had given her over the years, as well as this season’s designer bags and clothes.
They were all things she liked.
’Too bad the man wasn’t.’
’When someone you don’t like gives you things you do, even the things themselves lose their luster.’
After Moira Sloan spoke, the elderly doorman gave her a surprised look. "You don’t want any of this?"
The old man didn’t recognize the brand names, but he knew quality when he saw it.
The items in the box were obviously valuable, and factoring in the powerful presence of the man who had dropped them off that afternoon, it wasn’t hard for the doorman to put two and two together.
Moira Sloan said, "That’s right, I don’t want any of it."
The doorman hesitated, not daring to take them, afraid Moira Sloan would come back later and cause trouble.
Seeing his hesitation, Moira Sloan said with a bright smile, "If you don’t want them, you can just throw them in the trash for me. I’d be eternally grateful."
Without waiting for his reply, she gave the doorman a grateful smile and walked away in her high heels.
She knew he wouldn’t dare take the things if she stayed.
Back home, Moira Sloan had just walked in the door when her phone vibrated in her purse. She took it out, and the corner of her lip curled into an amused smile as she glanced at the screen.
Connor Quinn: I’ve thought about it. I’d still like to give it a try with you.
Moira Sloan teased: You’re pretty persistent.
Connor Quinn: So, will you try?
Moira Sloan: No.
Connor Quinn: 18,188,180.
Looking at the message from Connor Quinn, Moira Sloan raised an eyebrow.
’He’s certainly got the capital.’
’And with that face of his... he’s definitely... something else.’
’Too bad she wasn’t in the mood for it right now.’
Meanwhile, after sending that message, Connor Quinn received no reply for a long time. He leaned back on the sofa, his expression icy. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
In the kitchen, a busy Zachary Curran and Jade Quinn exchanged a look. Jade quietly asked Zachary, "What’s wrong with my brother?"
She had never seen her brother act like this before.
Zachary Curran replied, "Got turned down."
Hearing this, Jade Quinn’s eyes lit up. "My brother has a girl he likes?"
Their parents had died young, so Connor Quinn had been both a father and a mother while raising Jade Quinn. He was thirty-two and still unmarried, and Jade had always felt like she was the one holding him back.
Now, hearing that Connor had someone he liked, she couldn’t have been happier.
Seeing how happy Jade was, Zachary Curran’s mouth twitched. "Don’t celebrate too early."
Jade Quinn’s face fell. "Why?"
Zachary Curran said, "That woman... sigh..."
When he thought of Moira Sloan, Zachary found it hard to describe her.
It wasn’t that there was anything wrong with her; on the contrary, she was stunningly beautiful.
But it was precisely because she was so beautiful that she looked like trouble.
He never really understood the term ’femme fatale’ before, but ever since meeting Moira Sloan, he got it.
Even their boss, a tree of solid iron that never bloomed, was starting to flower. If that wasn’t the work of a siren, what was?
Seeing Zachary Curran hesitate, Jade Quinn nudged him. "Well, spit it out."
Zachary scratched his head, troubled. "Anyway... anyway, the point is, she’s not the kind of woman Connor can handle..."
’More than he can handle.’
’Just how high-maintenance could she be?’
Zachary Curran’s words didn’t dampen Jade Quinn’s enthusiasm in the slightest; instead, they piqued her interest.
So, the next day, Jade Quinn went in disguise and showed up at Moira Sloan’s shop.
When Jade arrived, Moira hadn’t gotten there yet.
The person who greeted her was Shauna Duane. Jade casually picked up a small trinket box and asked for the price, her eyes scanning the shop.
’Where is she?’
Shauna Duane saw that she had picked up the same item she herself had handled yesterday. A wave of anger gave rise to a malicious thought. "Fifteen hundred."
Jade Quinn was stunned. "How much?"
Shauna Duane was still fuming at Moira Sloan and wanted to sabotage her shop. She took a breath, about to quote an even more outrageous price, when the wind chime on the door tinkled. Moira Sloan walked in gracefully on her high heels, her skin fair and her lips red, wearing a coffee-colored satin slip dress...
Jade Quinn’s immediate thought was: ’She really does seem like more than a man can handle, but she’s also truly beautiful...’
Jade Quinn felt a mix of joy and worry for Connor Quinn. Before she could figure out whether she felt more joy or more worry, the shop door was pushed open again, and the man himself strode in.
Moira Sloan heard the sound and turned around. Her lips curved into a smile that was part mockery, part amusement. With a grin, she said, "Master Quinn. Is there something you need?"
