Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Shaken

Connor Quinn’s voice was cold and emotionless.

After he spoke, Lillian Kidd didn’t immediately reply from the other end of the line.

After about seven or eight seconds, Lillian Kidd finally spoke slowly, her voice carrying a gentle warmth. "Mr. Quinn, don’t you want to?"

Lillian Kidd didn’t answer, instead throwing the question back to Connor Quinn.

Seeing that Connor Quinn didn’t answer, Lillian Kidd spoke again. "I know that you and the other disciples are very attached to the Erudite Pavilion. Your master had no choice but to close it back then, but the storm has passed now..."

Lillian Kidd paused deliberately before continuing, her voice tinged with the sorrow of remembering the dead. "Besides, you know how much your master wanted the Erudite Pavilion to flourish."

Lillian Kidd appealed to both his reason and his emotions.

She analyzed the objective circumstances and then played the sentiment card.

Finally, she brought up Kain Alden’s long-cherished wish to perfectly cap off her argument.

Connor Quinn listened, raising a hand to take the cigarette from his lips and stub it out. He didn’t respond for a long time.

Just as Lillian Kidd, based on her understanding of Connor Quinn, felt certain he would refuse, he spoke in a low voice, "I support your decision."

Lillian Kidd, "..."

Connor Quinn asked, "When are you planning to reopen the Erudite Pavilion?"

Lillian Kidd, perhaps not expecting things to go so smoothly, was a beat slow in her response. "Preparations, plus all the paperwork... about a month, I’d say."

Connor Quinn replied flatly, "Alright."

Lillian Kidd said, "Mr. Quinn, thank you for supporting my decision."

Connor Quinn said, "Master once told me that the reason he opened the Erudite Pavilion was to establish himself in this field so he could marry you in grand style. Now that you want to reopen it, I think... if he were still with us, he would surely agree as well."

Lillian Kidd sucked in a breath, her voice choked with emotion. "Yes."

After hanging up with Lillian Kidd, Connor Quinn’s eyes darkened.

A moment later, he sent a text: How’s the investigation going?

The reply came instantly: Nothing found.

Connor Quinn: Keep looking.

The other person: Maybe you’re overthinking it.

Connor Quinn: Cut the crap. Keep looking.

Meanwhile, Moira Sloan, who was already in a foul mood, felt even more suffocated with frustration after the confrontation.

Seeing the sky outside grow dark, she got up, walked to the register, and picked up her handbag. A smile played on her lips as she looked at Shauna Duane. "Calling it a day."

Shauna Duane was surprised. "This early?"

Moira Sloan grinned. "You can work overtime."

Shauna Duane, "..."

Moira Sloan added, "No overtime pay, though."

Shauna Duane, "..."

Leaving the lacquerware shop, Moira Sloan glanced at the neighboring tattoo parlor, its lights now on. She didn’t contact Connor Quinn. Instead, she hailed a cab to Leo Lawson’s bar.

When she walked in, Leo Lawson was on the phone with someone.

Seeing her, a flash of surprise crossed his eyes. He said to the person on the phone, "Talk later. Your little troublemaker just walked in."

With that, Leo Lawson hung up and greeted Moira Sloan.

Moira Sloan walked over to a barstool and sat down, casually setting her handbag on the counter. "Whose little troublemaker?"

Leo Lawson smoothly changed the subject. "Want to try the new special?"

Moira Sloan raised an eyebrow, her expression noncommittal. "I need something strong today."

Leo Lawson knew Moira Sloan wasn’t so easily fooled. While mixing her drink, he answered casually, "That was a friend of mine. His girlfriend is back in town."

Moira Sloan smiled, her gaze drifting to a blue light somewhere in the bar. "Oh."

Leo Lawson asked, "Something on your mind?"

Moira Sloan pulled her gaze back, propping her chin on one hand while fiddling with her phone with the other. "Nope."

Hearing this, Leo Lawson slid the freshly mixed drink in front of her. "Guess you don’t see me as a friend."

Moira Sloan picked up the glass, admiring the crystal-clear blue liquid inside. She tapped a pretty finger against the side. "Still no word from the woman you’re waiting for?"

Leo Lawson replied, "Going for the jugular, huh?"

Moira Sloan lifted her eyes, her smile radiant. "That’s what friends are for. We trade secrets."

Moira Sloan’s posture was languid. Leo Lawson suddenly chuckled. "I heard from her. She said she’s coming back for a visit soon."

Moira Sloan chuckled lightly. "Are you happy?"

Leo Lawson said, "She’s bringing her boyfriend with her."

The corner of Moira Sloan’s eye lifted. "Tsk. Now that’s twisting the knife."

The woman he’d waited for for so many years was finally coming back, but with her new love.

Just imagining the scene, you knew what an absolute train wreck it would be. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

After Moira Sloan spoke, Leo Lawson looked at her. "What about you?"

Moira Sloan parted her red lips to take a sip of her drink. Pinching the stem of the glass, she replied, "Me? My heart’s a bit of a mess."

Leo Lawson asked, "Because of a man?"

Moira Sloan said teasingly, "Take a guess."

Leo Lawson, "Because of Connor Quinn?"

Moira Sloan leaned forward, a half-smile playing on her lips. It was a perfect mask, hiding her true feelings. "Maybe?"
