After Betrayal: Lightning Marriage to Mr. Enigmatic-Chapter 916: Secretary Zuo Will Do
After a hearty meal, the group set off in the afternoon to explore around Mount Verity.
Mount Verity bore no traces of human intervention. It was all natural scenery, with rugged and bizarre rocks, towering ancient trees, fresh air, and clear spring water.
It really wasn’t much of a famous attraction, but the grasslands and forests at the foot of the mountain spanned a vast area, stretching over tens of kilometers, and housed many small animals.
At one time, because the environment was too good with no natural predators, rabbits became overwhelmingly abundant, and the city had to expend considerable effort to control their numbers within a tolerable range for Mount Verity.
Harry Hunter and the group drove along the forest path, stopping to admire the scenery whenever they encountered something nice.
They walked and stopped intermittently until they reached a valley full of birds and flowers, where they decided to set up camp and prepare for a campfire dinner.
Isabella Weaver also wanted to help, which scared Zoe Lewis into quickly refusing.
"I’ve never seen such an active pregnant woman. Why are you still trying to do chores? Go and rest. We have plenty of manpower here. Look, David is so capable! Jace may be young, but he’s very strong and particularly diligent! Grace Watt is also very impressive, carrying two buckets like they’re little chicks! Secretary Zoe... um, he’ll manage."
Zoe Lewis: "..."
Why is it that when it comes to him, it’s just "managing"?
He wasn’t some frail scholar. He worked out regularly and had trained in taekwondo and karate. Among ordinary people, his physical endurance and strength were already quite good. Otherwise, would he have the strength to dig coal? That was heavy manual labor!
Of course, he couldn’t compare to David or Jace. Both had trained in martial arts schools since childhood. Their talents were extraordinary, which is why they were selected as Harry Hunter’s bodyguards. Grace Watt was the most outstanding among female bodyguards.
So even if Zoe Lewis wanted to argue, he couldn’t find any strong words to use.
Isabella Weaver glanced at Zoe Lewis, seeing his expressionless face, unable to discern his thoughts. His pace of moving things was faster, and he seemed to deliberately pick heavier things to carry.
She chuckled lightly. This Zoe Lewis was quite interesting.
"I’m idle anyway. I can’t carry heavy things, but I can take a plastic bucket and help wash vegetables, etc."
Isabella felt everyone was being overly cautious. She wouldn’t get tired just carrying a plastic bucket, yet Zoe Lewis still wanted to snatch it away from her and wouldn’t let her take it.
"No, you’re a key protection object now. You must stay idle."
Zoe Lewis casually handed the plastic bucket to Zoe Lewis passing by and pulled Isabella Weaver along to talk, "About ten years ago, my mom was pregnant again. I should have had a younger brother or sister, but we couldn’t keep the baby."
Isabella Weaver was surprised, "How did that happen?"
"My mom had severe morning sickness, and her pulse wasn’t very stable, so she was kept very precious, not allowed to do any work at home, and was just lying down every day. But still, we lost the baby."
Zoe Lewis spoke with some reflection, "Back then, I didn’t even dare to touch my mom, and my dad didn’t either. We were both always so cautious, speaking quietly for fear of shocking her and having to go to the hospital. I didn’t know that pregnancy could be like yours, laughing and joking like a normal person."
Isabella Weaver instinctively touched her belly, suddenly realizing how lucky she was.
Zoe Lewis actually wanted to touch her belly too, to feel the miracle of new life.
But unfortunately, Harry Hunter wasn’t far away watching them, his eyes cold and unblinking, as if daring her to put her paws on it would result in him chopping them off later.
